Trump Gets Triggered By Looming Criminal Charges & Melts Down

At last the swamp is being drained - kinda late but at least it's a start

I believe it's an error to call Trump stupid.
Despite Trump's pervasive ignorance, his carnival barker / swindler skills were enough for Trump to parlay himself into the U.S. presidency, thereby besting the other Republicans and Democrats often regarded as less stupid than Trump.

Some reports indicate Trump has been involved in over 4,000 court cases. So by now Trump seems to have some experience with it.
And while many other Americans would prefer to "get it over with", Trump has learned to obstruct, delay, & postpone as much as possible.
I think Trump is smart enough to know whether that's working for him or not. He's concluded, it is. AND !!

Trump understands by now, his "base" doesn't care. So if Trump wins the 2024 election a 2026 trial date would involve the prosecution of a sitting president.
And Trump is smart enough to understand what a headache that would be.

Thus:
"Stupid"?
"Ruthless" is probably the more useful, more accurate characterization.

Plenty of characterizations can be directed toward Republicans. But even if deliberately knowingly evil, they're at least likely to understand the rudiments of pragmatism.
They know about the impressive leadership of a man such as President Abraham Lincoln, and even lesser Republicans such as President Reagan, or Speaker Gingrich.
These Republican leaders united, coordinated the efforts of Republicans within the party to achieve common objective.

Trump is different.
Trump enjoys disrupting the status quo for his own personal enjoyment, more than demonstrating effective political leadership. This is a persistent annoyance to high ranking leaders within the Republican party.

As a result Republican political leaders would like to be rid of Trump. BUT:
Those that have tried have been punished at the polls. Governor Christie may be among the more recent examples. So how can congressional Republicans split the baby? How can they witness the political exit of Donald Trump, yet bear a superficial appearance of supporting Trump?
By attacking the Georgian DA that's prosecuting Trump. These Republicans need not succeed. All they have to do is present the appearance that they're supporting / defending Trump.

Republican state senators seek new path to unseating Georgia DA Fani Willis

Republicans at the state and federal levels are calling for multiple tactics to unseat Fani Willis, the Fulton county district attorney, even if their legal standing is murky and they lack the support of Georgia’s Republican governor.
Steve Gooch, the Georgia senate majority leader, and Clint Dixon, a state senator, have said they plan to use a commission designed to discipline and potentially remove rogue prosecutors to investigate Willis following her indictment of Donald Trump for attempting to reverse the results of the 2020 election.

Bottom line:
Republicans may be appearing to wish to unseat Georgia DA Willis. But it's likely many if not most of them secretly (or not) wish her success.

PBS NewsHour features a brief editorial Brooks & Capehart weekly summary.
The following is an excerpt from the Friday September 8 broadcast, commenting on the Republican deflective what-aboutism, ostensibly defending Trump by pointing the accusatory finger at Hunter Biden.

"... the legal predicament surrounding Hunter Biden, the son of the president, it is nowhere near and it is not the same as what is facing the former president [Trump]. twice impeached, four times indicted on 91 counts in four different jurisdictions.

I mean, they're — Republicans, especially congressional Republicans, have been spending a lot of time trying to focus attention on Hunter Biden and the — quote, unquote — "weaponization" of the Justice Department because of what is happening to Donald Trump, as opposed to focusing in on the fact that the guy has got four indictments, 91 counts for some very serious, very serious crimes, but also affronts to American democracy.

And that is nowhere near — what Hunter Biden may or may not have done does not even come close to the level of legal drama that's facing the former president of the United States [Trump]." Washington Post associate editor Jonathan Capehart

I don't recall any similar disclosure, though there may well have been one between 1775 and today.

Dear Reader,
Donald Trump is now dominating the Republican primary field and running neck and neck with Joe Biden in the polls.
The danger of a second Trump presidency is all too real. And we know that would be a complete disaster for our country.
That’s why we are launching a “Stop Trump Summit” to be held in New York City in October. The summit will be a timely strategy session gathering some of the brightest minds in American politics and culture. Guests will include the sharpest analyst of Trump’s dangerous mind, his niece, psychologist Mary L. Trump; congressman and Trump impeachment manager Jamie Raskin; anti-Trump lawyer and CNN contributor George Conway; National Action Network founder Al Sharpton; and Stuart Stevens, senior adviser at the Lincoln Project; and actor Robert De Niro.
But we can’t make our Stop Trump Summit happen without you.
We need to raise $20,000 to do all this. That’s a VERY achievable goal—if people like you who are fiercely opposed to Donald Trump step up to join this urgent cause.
Please help us fight back against Trump’s dangerous campaign to become president again by donating today.

That by itself is of interest. BUT !
Then there's the article the funding plea precedes.

Big Lie Two Is Here, and It’s Far More Insidious Than Big Lie One

Trump goes into his trials era with a big advantage—a majority of Americans incorrectly believe that the charges against him are politically motivated.

The Big Lie, as it quickly became known, was that Donald Trump actually won the 2020 election. He’s still out there peddling this nonsense, and a lot of people still believe it, though thankfully, they constitute a clear minority of voters.
But now there’s a new lie being peddled. Call it Big Lie Two. Trump has been hawking this one for a while too, but it has been, to my mind, oddly little remarked-upon. That needs to change: Big Lie Two is more insidious and dangerous than Big Lie One, for two reasons. First, it has nothing to do with the settled past, but rather with the unsettled present and future. And second, unlike Big Lie One, a majority of Americans believe it.
The lie is that the indictments against Trump represent a collective effort to stop him from running for president. Trump talks of this all the time; “election interference” is the phrase he often uses. They can’t stop me legitimately, he says—they know I won in 2020, and they know I’ll win again, so this is how they’re trying to block me.

We live in "interesting" times.

The Trump Organization said it sold its lease for a New York golf course with sweeping views of Manhattan to Bally’s Corporation, ending several years of controversy.
“While we had no prior intention of selling this trophy asset, Bally’s Corporation stepped in and made us an exceptional offer,” said Eric Trump, the middle son of former President Donald Trump, in announcing the sale of Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point Park.
The former president and the New York City parks department reached the deal assigning the lease to Bally’s late last month, according to a person familiar with the deal. The New York City comptroller reviewed and registered the deal last week and Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Bally’s would assume operations immediately.

Former President of the United States of America Donald John Trump has reportedly had thousands of law court challenges over the decades. BUT:
Those pending against him today are quite serious, and might if convicted land Trump in prison for many years, potentially for the rest of Trump's life.

Trump is notorious for exaggeration and egotistical self-promotion.
Liquidating assets is a sign of Trump $desperation. This sale may not tell the whole story. But it seems to be a major piece of the puzzle.

Trump has had an impressive run. Lying his way into the presidency, stupendous.
"Nobody knows the system better than me." "Which is why I alone can fix it." presidential candidate Trump 16/07/21 from the campaign podium
Astoundingly, not only were there persons simultaneously silly enough to fall for this, AND eligible to vote. BUT:
it seems they're still at it!

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.

Prosecutors Probe Trump’s Efforts to Steal Arizona’s Election — Years After He Lost

Investigators are asking about Trumpworld efforts to undermine Arizona’s 2020 election results as recently as last year
ADAM RAWNSLEY, ASAWIN SUEBSAENG

PROSECUTORS IN ARIZONA are probing the extent to which Donald Trump and his allies were still working behind the scenes to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election — years into Joe Biden’s presidency. According to two people with knowledge of the situation, investigators with the Arizona attorney general’s office are inquiring about efforts to overturn the election that continued well into 2021 and 2022.

The sources say that investigators have asked about a 2022 pressure campaign from Trump allies aimed at decertifying the state’s electors, and inquired about how deeply the former president and his senior advisers were involved in supporting Arizona Republicans’ privately-run 2021 election audit.

In May, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes’ office opened an investigation into a Trump-backed effort by Arizona Republicans to put forth a bogus slate of electors sworn to support the former president when it came time to cast Arizona’s electoral college votes. But investigators have recently been asking questions that indicate an interest in efforts to overturn the 2020 election that took place well after Biden’s inauguration.

In the months since Mayes’ office began investigating the “fake electors” plot, sources say officials have interviewed individuals with intimate knowledge of ....

Trump Calls for NY Judge to Be Disbarred During Manhattan Court Appearance

Former President Donald Trump appeared in Manhattan court days after a judge ruled he and his Trump Org. associates committed “persistent and repeated” fraud
BY NIKKI MCCANN RAMIREZ

Former President Donald Trump appeared in Manhattan court on Monday to personally challenge accusations of fraud leveled against him by the state of New York.

Last week, a Manhattan judge handed down a partial summary judgment ruling that Trump, his adult sons Eric and Donald Jr., and several of his business associates were liable for “persistent and repeated” fraud against investors and insurers. In an astonishing move, Judge Arthur Engoron also terminated all of the New York business licenses held by the defendants, effectively signaling the dissolution of the Trump organization.

The trial — which will not be decided by a jury — will center primarily on establishing how much Trump and his co-defendants owe in damages. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced in September of last year that the state would see at least $250 million in restitution payments and a ban on Trump and his family from running a business in the state. Cameras were not allowed to record the proceedings within the courtroom, but upon both his arrival and during a break, Trump stopped to speak with gathered reporters and attack the prosecutors and Judge Engoron.

Judge Engoron “should be disbarred,” Trump told the cameras. “This is a judge that should ....
