Florida classroom bookshelves left empty as education reform law goes into effect

There may be better definitions. But AHD is my day to day go-to dictionary.
woke 2 (wōk)
adj. wok·er, wok·est
Slang
Aware of the injustice of the social system in which one lives: “The phenomenon of being woke is a cultural push to challenge problematic norms, systemic injustices and the overall status quo through complete awareness” (Raven Cras).

Pseudo-cons use "woke" as an insult.
It isn't.
The whole idea of the United States of America is the "melting-pot". It's not just some froggy idea some drunken dead Kennedy came up with before passing out in his own puddle. It's the traditional motto of the United States.

E pluribus unum

Traditional motto of the United States

E pluribus unum (ee PLUR-ib-əs OO-nəm, Classical Latin: [eː ˈpluːrɪbʊs ˈuːnʊ̃], Latin pronunciation: [e ˈpluribus ˈunum]) – Latin for "Out of many, one" (also translated as "One out of many" or "One from many") – is a traditional motto of the United States, appearing on the Great Seal along with Annuit cœptis+

The hypocrisy of course is pseudo-cons pretend to be conservative. What's more conservative in our governance than honoring, abiding by our Founding principles?
Thus what pseudo-cons dismiss as liberal is actually about as conservative as it gets.

In fairness, Florida isn't the only place books are being banned

BANNED BOOKS 2022 – HIDDEN FIGURES: THE TRUE STORY OF FOUR BLACK WOMEN AND THE SPACE RACE

Hard to believe that anyone would have a problem with that book (or any of the others listed in the article)

Very.
I'd like to know what their stated objection is. Wouldn't mind knowing what their real objection is either.

I don't recall the name, but recently I heard a radio interview of a high-achieving young Black man. He explained that until he read a book about Roberto Clemente he'd never read of a successful Black man. Evidently it matters.

I suppose rivalry is fairly common, Irish vs English, Oklahoma vs Texas, French.

I did say that if the standards used by the book banners were applied to the bible it would be out of schools .... of course I never expected to see it happen

Many may understand the significance of Disney's "Frozen".
Not me.
I thought a quick glimpse of a plot summary might suffice.

Not trying to ignore here, just not up on Disney.

"more on"!
Not merely "more on", they are champions of ignorance.

I rather doubt that the plot of Frozen had anything to do with DeSantis being upset. The issue is much more likely that DeSantis has declared war on Disney but his daughter is still allowed to watch their movies.

"A school administrator in Southlake, Texas, advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also have a book with an "opposing" perspective." NBC News

"What is the 'opposing view' of the Holocaust? That the Jews deserved it? That the Nazis weren't that bad? What a godforsaken stupid era we're damned to live through." TRP

a) The Germans had a reason for bringing Hitler to power. Teaching that it happened is incomplete without teaching why.
b) Why? The Versailles / Paris treaty imposed what was perceived within Germany as burdensome punitive severe retribution for WWI. Germany was not allowed to negotiate it, but was required to sign it.

What the %$#@ did they think was gunna happen ?!

1) "... have a book with an opposing perspective". This assumes a text used in such classroom would not present a balanced perspective. Perhaps not. BUT: it also presumes a text with "an opposing perspective" is in print. Perhaps not.
2) By the standard the Southlake, TX administrator advocates, does this mean when U.S. Founding history is taught, that student texts should also include the perspective from his royal highness, King George III ?
3) When algebra is taught correctly, should equal time be given to teaching algebra incorrectly?

Ironically, it may be this Southlake, Texas administrator claims to be "conservative". BUT !! The laughable incongruity advocated more closely approximates "liberal" gone wild. Even if not deliberately satirical, it is laughable.

No - that just means that the 4th of July shall henceforth be known as "Treason Day".

BTW, it's only treason if you lose.
