Florida classroom bookshelves left empty as education reform law goes into effect

Thanks for the link.
My intended point in #39 is:
- do the proportions of LGBTQ at New College approximate that of the national population? I infer it doesn't.
- If not, what dynamic concentrates them there?
- Does LGBTQ ratio @ New College reflect that of other similar liberal arts schools?
- If not, why not?

S2, my impression is DeSantis isn't a true believer in these disgraceful discriminatory (socio)political causes, regardless of for how long he may have harbored them personally, or not.
Instead I think DeSantis is motivated by megalomaniacal aspirations, combined with a sociopathic disregard for those harmed by his strategy for amassing the power he craves. BUT, that's a guess based on insufficient information. It may be something else.

btw:
I believe my pappy attended, and may have obtained a degree from this Manhattan school: https://www.newschool.edu/
I only have one father.

- do the proportions of LGBTQ at New College approximate that of the national population? I infer it doesn't.
Not familiar with the school - first I heard of it was the article I posted about it.
- If not, what dynamic concentrates them there?
Based on the article it sounds like they've worked very hard over the years to make that happen
- Does LGBTQ ratio @ New College reflect that of other similar liberal arts schools?
Doesn't sound like it.
- If not, why not?
Sounds like they worked at it.

Thanks S2.
That's about what I figured. No worries, BUT, an impression:

The idea of boys only, or girls only high school may be biblically inspired. Avoid temptation. BUT !!
If not in high school, certainly in college I'd think the idea is to prepare the student to succeed both at work, and in the community. And that means practicing and refining to proficiency basic relationship & communication skills.
And so while I can't deny a concentrated LGBTQ campus environment might seem a welcome refuge in the short term, it may merely be postponing and multiplying the complications of reintegration after graduation.

That's not a vote for or against, just my expressing a suspicion of a potential pitfall of a LGBTQ student body, being groomed to be ill-prepared.
Sounds like they worked at it.
Yes. I was curious about the process. It could be as simple as rejecting applicants that don't fit the desired profile / criterion. No biggie, just puzzled.

NAACP issues travel advisory in state under DeSantis' leadership

By WPTV - Staff / Published: May. 20, 2023 at 7:45 PM GMT-5

The NAACP Board of Directors issued a travel advisory in Florida on Saturday in response to actions by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
"Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals," the advisory reads. "Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color."
In a news release, the NAACP noted DeSantis' "aggressive attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity and inclusion programs in Florida schools."
NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson said: "Let me be clear – failing to teach an accurate representation of the horrors and inequalities that Black Americans have faced and continue to face is a disservice to students and a dereliction of duty to all.

"Under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, the state of Florida has become hostile to Black Americans and in direct conflict with the democratic ideals that our union was founded upon. He should know that democracy will prevail because its defenders are prepared to stand up and fight. We’re not backing down, and we encourage our allies to join us in the battle for the soul of our nation."
In March, the Florida NAACP made a push for this advisory.
At the time, DeSantis responded: "What a joke – what a joke. Yeah, we'll see how effective that is."

On Monday, DeSantis signed a bill that will eliminate state or federal spending on diversity, equity and inclusion programs at publicly-funded colleges in Florida.

Not "just" black people

NAACP to Black People: Stay Out of Florida

Is it “safe” to be black in Florida

Herbert Dyer, J.

America’s oldest and largest civil and human rights organization, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is warning black people everywhere against traveling to Florida.

This “advisory” is also inclusive of all other “minorities” because Florida is “actively hostile” in its “conservative” government’s putsch to eliminate altogether any efforts to achieve racial, cultural, social, political…and especially, economic diversity. Florida, under Governor Ron DeSantis, has placed a special emphasis against enriching the lives of all its citizens by essentially declaring war on state-supported schools, from K-12 to and including Ph.D. programs.

The NAACP advisory has come down to us in the form of a recent press release, which details and chronicles the fact that since his recent successful re-election, DeSantis has been unrelenting in his “attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.”

Further, sayeth the NAACP:

Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color.
Prompted and prodded by DeSantis, Florida’s Department of Education has severely ...

If you'll forgive me focusing this to lunch-counter simplicity, that won't pass the mustard. It's discrimination on matter of life or death, not whether the wedding cake is for him & her, but for him & him. BUT !!
It needn't stand for long. All DeSantis needs is the -I got it done- claim for the presidential election campaign. "Politics ain't bean-bag."

It's discrimination on matter of life or death ...
That's what they've just legalized. Have to say that I've heard of EMT's refusing to treat gays and doctors refusing to treat trans individuals but this is intended to make that legal.

"... liberal woke culture seeping into our schools, liberal indoctrination in the classrooms ..." Langston #58
Please help me understand this S2.
Seems to me a "liberal" education is an education. Whereas
what Langston seems to prefer is indoctrination. No?

example:
Higher farm produce prices & profits benefit the farmer.
Higher retail produce prices & profits benefit the merchants.
Teaching both sides is "liberal". Right?
But teaching about slothful farmers profiteering off limited supply, or
greedy merchants exploiting hunger as a weapon ...
That's what Langston wants to promote?

In short: teach both sides, it's liberal education.
Teach one side, it's indoctrination. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
"... any employee found leaking information to the press will face immediate termination." Langston
If the leaked information is classified, then termination would be a slap on the wrist. If not, isn't such threat a violation of the First Amendment free speech right of the employee?

I think that the conservative definition of "woke" focuses on talking about equality and diversity. And "socialism" (even tho I'm sure they have no idea what that word means) and ....

Your example focuses on basic economics and I'm sure they'd include the farmers in that list but not the megacorporations that are buying produce and selling it at huge markups.
