Allergy to thiomersal is usually of delayed-hypersensitivity type, but its detection through cutaneous tests is not very reliable. Hypersensitivity to thiomersal is not considered as a contraindication to the use of thiomersal-containing vaccines.

If I had a binary choice I might prefer to avoid thimerosal. BUT !

Nope. Not sure why, though apparently they have their $$reasons$$.
Obviously the healthcare industry isn't willing to pay the vaccine producers the difference in cost. Suppose the patients agreed to pay the difference?

My ignorant guess:
while sub-Q injection of ethyl Mercury seems sub-optimal to this layman, going full blown anti-vax may be worse. AND !
While there's not much wrong with slaying a dragon here or there, we may have more formidable monsters to contend with.
