Along with trying to stop schools from giving all their students free meals, the proposed 2024 Republican budget includes efforts to:

  • cut Social Security and Medicare
  • make Trump’s tax cuts for the top 1 percent permanent
  • impose work requirements on “all federal benefit programs,” like food stamps and Medicare
  • extend work requirements on those aged 55–64
  • bring back all of twice-impeached and twice-arrested former President Donald Trump’s deregulations, including the weakening of environmental protection.
And that’s just a taste of their hopes and dreams. But don’t mistake it all as just wish-casting: “The RSC Budget is more than just a financial statement. It is a statement of priorities,” the party assures in the document.

... and should also be read aloud immediately before their firing squad resolves the issue.

Personal note:
When in elementary public school in the early '60's our "public" (government) school provided a cup (one quarter quart) of milk in individual carton to each student in exchange for each student paying 3 pennies.
WWII was a recent memory to the faculty and administration of that school.

Our political leaders realized:
- to be prepared to wage & win the next big war, the United States will need able-bodied troops. And that meant not stunting their growth with malnutrition in childhood.
- So our public school participated in this program which also benefited local dairies.

It's a new millennium.
We may not have to storm the beaches at Normandy again. BUT !!
Successfully for defending against currently ongoing low-level cyber-war, we'll need top talent.

Good nutrition is essential to building strong bodies & healthy minds, to maintain U.S. competitiveness, & national defense competence.
I welcome the GOP's possible concern for fiscal responsibility. And we can get closer to a balanced budget either by decreasing expenditures, or increasing revenues. BUT !!

Literally taking it from the mouths of our children may bear the appearance of ill-considered priority.

Adequate nutrition for our nation of children should not be viewed as an expense, but as an investment.

VOTE FOR TRUMP ! and put Vlad Putin in charge

Inside Snapchat’s Teen Opioid Crisis

Law-enforcement sources and grieving families allege that the social media giant Snapchat has helped fuel a teen-overdose epidemic across the country. Now, their parents are fighting back
BY PAUL SOLOTAROFF

ALEX NEVILLE WAS one of those boys who was always in costume, wearing his obsessions on his sleeve. At three, he went around dressed as a mummy, earnestly explaining the embalming process to children in Aliso Viejo, a town in Orange County, California. At seven, he was SoCal’s shortest Civil War junkie, dragging his father to local reenactments of the Battle of Gettysburg. It was at one of those events that he met his great hero: a tall, bearded schnook playing Abe Lincoln. “Alex was speechless when he shook ‘Abe’s’ hand,” says his father, Aaron Neville. “For him, it was like meeting Beyoncé!”

But for all his little-professor chi, Alex was a boy’s boy through and through. He ran with his wolf pack of free-range kids from kindergarten on. They boogie-boarded riptides and stunt-jumped skate bowls, anything for a G-pass from gravity. It was hard being one of the brightest kids in class, though, when his brain kept overheating. “We knew two things about him early on,” says his mom, Amy Neville, a heart-faced woman with the watchful zen of a longtime yoga instructor. “One, he was borderline genius — at least. Two, he had ADD. Or something.”

Alex couldn’t sit still or manage his moods; the smallest things triggered eruptions. “As we found out from his therapist, he had a ‘ring of fire’ brain; it never switched off,” says Amy. Alex lived at the whims of his central nervous system, and the first thing that tamed it was weed. “He smoked in seventh grade. For him, it was like, ‘Where have you been?!’”

How does Amy know this? Because Alex told her everything that ....

Snapchat

Photo messaging application
Snapchat

Summary

Snapchat is an American multimedia instant messaging app and service developed by Snap Inc., originally Snapchat Inc. One of the principal features of Snapchat is that pictures and messages are usually only available for a short time before they become inaccessible to their recipients. The app has evolved from originally focusing on person-to-person photo sharing to presently featuring users' "Stories" of 24 hours of chronological content, along with "Discover", letting brands show ad-supported short-form content. It also allows users to store photos in a password-protected area called "my eyes only". It has also reportedly incorporated limited use of end-to-end encryption, with plans to broaden its use in the future.
Snapchat was created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, former students at Stanford University. It is known for representing a mobile-first direction for social media, and places significant emphasis on users interacting with virtual stickers and augmented reality objects. In July 2021, Snapchat had 293 million daily active users, a 23% growth over a year. On average more than four billion Snaps are sent each day. Snapchat is popular among the younger generations, particularly those below the age of 16, leading to many privacy concerns for parents.

I'm willfully, self-indulgently out of the loop on this.
I've intentionally, possibly wisely dodged the smart-phone craze, have never carried one.

Fentanyl is hardly front page news.
Personally the most depressing part of this, it seems to attend Drug War. Drug War cedes control of commodity commerce to criminals, blackmarketeers.

So government charges full speed ahead with Drug War, crying crocodile tears for its victims. This is the bitter harvest of the usurpation of Liberty.

Putin and Kim pledge mutual help against 'aggression'

11 hours ago / By Tessa Wong, BBC News
Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un have signed an agreement pledging that Russia and North Korea will help each other in the event of "aggression" against either country.
The Russian president made the announcement following talks with Mr Kim during a lavish visit to Pyongyang, his first since 2000.
Mr Kim said it took their relationship to "a new, high level of alliance".
The pact cements a rapidly blossoming partnership that has worried the West. It could also have significant ramifications for the world, say observers.
Any kind of mutual defence treaty could possibly see Moscow assisting Pyongyang in a future conflict on the Korean peninsula, while North Korea could openly help Russia in its war on Ukraine.

Is this a MAGA Militia or a Clown Car?

A jailed Jan 6 defendant is trying to spin up an Oath Keepers for the America First set. Is it a real threat?
BY TIM DICKINSON

Donald Trump has hailed those locked up for Jan. 6 as “patriots,” “hostages,” and even “warriors.”

He may want to add “militiamen” to that list.

Jake Lang is a defendant in a long-delayed trial for his participation in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol. He’s accused of multiple violent crimes, with charges ranging from an “act of physical violence in a Capitol building” to “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon, inflicting bodily injury” — as well as “obstruction of an official proceeding” and “civil disorder.”

Lang has used his extended pretrial detention to raise his MAGA-world celebrity — as well as a ton of cash. A GiveSendGo fund he controls has raked in more than $500,000, ostensibly for the legal defense of “January 6 Patriots.” (The monies raised through the site and by check go to Lang, personally.) He maintains his innocence, and his X.com handle identifies him as a “January 6 Political Prisoner.”

Lang is now attempting to launch a nationwide militia network from his jail cell in Brooklyn. The group debuted in early June with incendiary branding — as the North American Patriot and Liberty Militia, or NAPALM USA. (The formation of the group was first reported on by Media Matters.)

As a paramilitary force, Lang’s militia may be .....

Republican Candidate Tells Black Americans To Leave #170

from link:

A Republican candidate for Missouri secretary of state [Valentina Gomez] has told Black Americans who do not like the country to "kindly" leave in a video posted on the eve of Juneteenth.

- Send the n*** back to Africa -
isn't unique to the new millennium. The notion of restoring "Liberty" to historically African Americans inspired naming their destination African refuge "Liberia". The name of its capital inspired by U.S. President Monroe.

Liberia

Country in West Africa
Liberia
Liberia , officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to its northwest, Guinea to its north, Ivory Coast to its east, and the Atlantic Ocean to its south and southwest. It has a population of around five and one-half million and covers an area of 43,000 square miles (111,369 km). The country's official language is English; however, over 20 indigenous languages are spoken, reflecting the country's ethnic and cultural diversity. The capital and largest city is Monrovia.
Liberia began in the early 19th century as a project of the American Colonization Society (ACS), which believed black people would face better chances for freedom and prosperity in Africa than in the United States. Between 1822 and the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861, more than 15,000 freed and free-born African Americans, along with 3,198 Afro-Caribbeans, relocated to Liberia. Gradually developing an Americo-Liberian identity, the settlers carried their culture and tradition with them. Liberia declared independence on July 26, 1847, which the U.S. did not recognize until February 5, 1862.

Bigots consider diversity a defect, a weakness. Hitler's solution: exterminate by the millions, on modern industrial scale.
Democrats recognize diversity as a strength.

In general, "patriotism, the last refuge of a scoundrel".
For decades pseudo-militiamen have been dressing up in size XXXXL camo-PJ's and stumbling about in the forest until beer-thirty. BUT !

According to our Constitution's Art.2 Sect.2 our "militiamen" have chain of command directly to the U.S. president. Any that don't are at best imposters.

Rolling Stone Lawsuit Forces Release of Henry Kissinger’s FBI Files

The Justice Department has released the first two tranches of documents detailing Kissinger’s ascent through the national security bureaucracy
BY ADAM RAWNSLEY

IN RESPONSE TO a lawsuit by Rolling Stone and National Security Counselors, the Department of Justice has turned over two tranches of FBI documents related to former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Rolling Stone’s Freedom of Information Act request, filed hours after the announcement of his death in November 2023, seeks expedited processing of FBI files related to the former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to President Nixon. Kissinger is widely considered to be a war criminal for his role in the bombing of Cambodia, a coup in Chile, and massacres in East Timor and Bangladesh, and his legacy remains controversial among historians despite his bipartisan embrace by Washington, D.C. power players over the last half century.

While a historic figure in American foreign policy, Kissinger had an impact on American diplomacy right up until his death. After his death in late 2023, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken lauded the former Nixon advisor and revealed that he had sought Kissinger’s counsel ”as recently as ....
