Patriot says if her political opponent's position is so controversial, & violence-provoking, rather than temporarily suppressing the blowback until after the election
perhaps Republicans embracing a less alarming political agenda may prove the more rational approach. Stifling your opponent the best you can do Byron?

Teamsters union opts to not endorse any presidential candidate

TAL AXELROD, FRITZ FARROW and MARY BRUCE / Wed, September 18, 2024 at 5:39 PM EDT
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, one of the most prominent and influential unions in the country, said Wednesday it will not endorse any presidential candidate this year -- a blow for both candidates.
The 1.3-million-member union has historically thrown its weight around in presidential cycles and endorsed Democratic presidential candidates in recent cycles, with 1988 being the last time it supported a Republican, then-Vice President George H. W. Bush. However, hours before the union was set to announce its highly coveted endorsement on Wednesday, the Teamsters released polling of union members showing a nearly two-to-one preference for former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.
"The Teamsters thank all candidates for meeting with members face-to-face during our unprecedented roundtables. Unfortunately, neither major candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business," Teamsters President Sean O'Brien, who took on the role in 2022, said in a statement.
Blue-collar union workers have been a mainstay of Democratic support for several cycles, but Trump has made inroads with voters without a college degree, a key demographic that helped eat away at Democrats' union advantage.

Because this report mentions: "the Teamsters released polling of union members showing a nearly two-to-one preference for former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris" I suspect there may have been a schism between labor ("rank & file") and management.
Rather than management giving in to the 2:1 labor Trump preference, management sidestepped the controversy by withholding the Teamsters endorsement entirely.

If not that, what?

Teamsters on Wednesday posted the results of internal polling on the 2024 candidates, showing that the union's members favored Trump by 59.6% over Democratic nominee Vice President Harris, who received 34% in an online survey. In a phone survey, Teamsters favored Trump over Harris, 58% to 31%.
Still, the union declined to endorse a 2024 presidential candidate ...

"With the "internal" poll numbers below, how could the @Teamsters leadership IGNORE their rank and file members and NOT support @realDonaldTrump?!?!" CNN commentator David J. Urban posted on X.

"NO ENDORSEMENT IS RIDICULOUS!!!," he wrote in a follow-up post.
"Union bosses taking care of their members, or themselves?" Virginia state delegate Nick Freitas posted.

Endorse, or not may be a binary. BUT: union bosses taking care of members or themselves is not necessarily the only possibility.
One possible alternate:
Union bosses taking care of their members, the whole People, the nation, and humanity by doing what little they can to help avoid the potentially cataclysmic consequences of a Trump win this November.

If it were merely a matter of:
- candidate A wants to cut taxes a little,
- candidate B wants to raise taxes a little to improve public safety, health care, etc
we could consider that a political quibble.

In this case Trump, the candidate favored by 59.6% is not merely a convicted felon, but instrumental, a primary to the greatest threat to the United States Constitution since the war of Northern aggression, known to some as the Civil War.

This distinction is between what the union bosses did, and why.
Certainly is conspicuous, with a nearly 6 in 10 preference for Trump.
But that is not conclusive proof the non-endorsement is exploitive, advantaging themselves to the detriment of rank & file. Not necessarily.

Alright,
I didn't quite get there, BUT !!
"Shortly after the presidential debate ended Tuesday night, Swift shared a photo of her with her cat, Benjamin Button, to Instagram and wrote in the caption that she will be supporting Harris and Tim Walz. Swift also acknowledged Trump's use of AI-generated images depicting her endorsing him and said it made her realize she needed to be clear about her actual plans for the election." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...rris/ar-AA1qmqHY?ocid=nl_article_link#image=1
The U.S. does seem to have a preference for divided government.

Not clear to me what, if the Dems. get the exec., the house, & the senate. If so, probably for 2 years, not 4.
If that, perhaps the political finger in the GOP's eye might help slap some sense into them. Not clear to me how the abortion referenda will do.

Republicans step up effort to change Nebraska's electoral vote process to benefit Trump

BRITTANY SHEPHERD and ISABELLA MURRAY / ABC News' Allison Pecorin contributed to this report. / Thu, September 19, 2024 at 5:32 PM EDT

Republicans are stepping up their efforts to change Nebraska's electoral vote process to winner-take-all -- a move that would benefit former President Donald Trump in an expected close November election in which a single vote could make a key difference in the Electoral College.
The winner-take-all electoral change could be pivotal if the Republican-leaning state allocates all of its five electoral votes solely to Trump instead of dividing them with Kamala Harris.

"Some argue that the rule cannot be changed after general election voting begins in Nebraska. In-person early voting begins 30 days before an election, or Oct. 7 this year. Others contend that the only requirement is that the law be changed before Electoral College members cast their votes in December. To my knowledge, the attorney general has not officially weighed in on the issues, so I don't have a definitive answer," she wrote.

The Harris / Trump debate was moderated by Muir & Davis from ABC broadcast network.
Moderator Muir fact-checked Trump real-time during the debate, reporting the falsity of Trump's claim (post #528). The ratings result?

ABC's David Muir sees newscast ratings decline after controversial debate performance

ABC’s "World News Tonight" anchor David Muir may have driven away some viewers after the Disney-owned network irked conservatives during last week’s presidential debate.

Muir and co-moderator Linsey Davis fact-checked former President Trump five times without ever correcting Vice President Kamala Harris, prompting a plethora of conservatives to suggest the debate wasn’t fair. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America even called for a correction after Davis made an abortion claim made during the debate during one of the fact-checks on Trump that the group said was "100% inaccurate."

Trump Rallygoers Say They Are Experiencing Mysterious Eye Injuries

Zachary Folk / Thu, September 19, 2024 at 12:02 AM EDT / Reuters/YouTube

Six people who sat behind former President Donald Trump at a rally in Tuscon, Arizona last week were left with strange eye injuries, including one who says she was nearly blind the day after, according to a report from local station News 4 Tucson.
One of the victims, anti-abortion activist Mayra Rodriguez, told the station her eyes began hurting after leaving the rally last Thursday.
“As soon as we left and we stepped outside my eyes were burning,” she said.

Rodriguez eventually went to the ER for treatment, where staff reportedly told her it looked like she was sprayed with something.
“The emergency room staff, from the triage nurse to the PA [Physicians Assistant] asked are you sure you didn’t get sprayed with something your symptoms look like you got sprayed with something,” she told N4T.

Mayra Rodriguez said she was left unable to open her eyes due to her “horrible” symptoms

... she reported being nearly blind and said that it “hurts a lot to open my eyes.” Doctors were ultimately unable to determine the cause, but she slowly improved over the following days.

If these individuals were "sprayed with something", what? If doused with a super-soaker they'd have been aware of it. This may suggest a less conspicuous liquid stream, or perhaps aerosol.

According to this Trump vision of Utopia “women will be happy, healthy, confident and free!” because whether their reproductive rights are recognized or not will be determined by region, geography. This is delusion.

MAGA Sheriff’s Post About Harris Yard Signs Gets Department Booted From Election Duties

The sheriff’s department in Portage County, Ohio has been stripped of its election security duties after its MAGA sheriff said people displaying Kamala Harris signs in their yards should have their addresses recorded so illegal immigrants can be sent to their homes.
Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, a Donald Trump-supporting Republican seeking re-election, likened migrants to “human locusts” and called Harris a “Flip-Flopping, Laughing Hyena” on his personal and campaign Facebook accounts earlier this month.

So that's how he wriggled out of election duties. Do you suppose he's got any hints on how to wiggle out of jury duty?

500,000 Haitians living in Florida Seems Really Mad at Trump For Some Reason. I Wonder How They'll Vote?? (Trump won 2020 FLA by 372,000 votes).

growing up, Nathan Gabriel was teased for his Haitian heritage. He’s now growing increasingly concerned about the claims former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance made at the national stage regarding Haitian immigrants — and that anxiety has empowered him to push others to vote. “Being Haitian is a blessing,” said Gabriel, the president of the Haitian Student Union at Florida International University. “Never let a classmate, coworker or even a vice president nominee and former President tell you different.”

Like Gabriel, about 200 people — mainly members of South Florida’s Haitian community — and dozens of local political leaders gathered outside the North Miami City Hall on Sunday afternoon to rally against the baseless claims made by the Trump campaign. The event was hosted by the Miami-Dade Democratic Haitian Caucus.

“Mr. Trump made one big mistake,” said Hedder Pierre-Joseph, president of the Democratic Haitian Caucus of Florida. “He forgot that we are five generations in. The first boat load of Haitians landed on the coast of Pompano Beach in December 1973.”

Some pundits have called Pennsylvania a "must win" State for either candidate to win. Meaning, as goes PA, so goes the US.
PA lists 19 electoral votes, considered a "toss-up" State. BUT !!
Florida lists 50% more electoral votes than Pennsylvania. If Trump / Vance flip Florida to Harris / Walz it's a gift more generous than Pennsylvania.

And to do that over a lie about eating pets ?!

Election day is over a month away.
Let's see how many other "red" States Trump / Vance can turn blue by then.

Donald ! Hurry !

PS
The above map lists NY as "safe" for KamHar, BUT !
Harris / Walz are still running campaign ads here during the 6 PM hour, tonight on CBS on the Roe : Dobbs theme.
