Pete Buttigieg thinks America is ready for an openly gay president.
Asked on Meet the Press whether he believes the country is ready, the former Transportation secretary answered with one word:
“Of course!”
Then he explained the thinking behind his original presidential campaign.
“I wouldn’t have run for president in the first place if I didn’t believe that.”
That confidence is significant because Buttigieg has already tested the question on the national stage.
In 2019, he launched a campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination as an openly gay man.
He became the first openly gay major-party presidential candidate to win delegates in a U.S. presidential primary.
The campaign eventually ended.
But the barrier had already been challenged.
Millions of Americans had watched an openly gay candidate debate for the presidency, talk about national security, healthcare, the economy, foreign policy, and the future of the country.
His sexuality was part of his story.
It was not the entirety of his candidacy.
Now, with another presidential cycle approaching, Buttigieg is being asked whether he might try again.
He has not closed the door.
And his answer to the larger question is even clearer.
America is ready.
That does not mean every voter is ready.
It does not mean an openly gay candidate would automatically win.
And it does not guarantee Buttigieg will run.
It means he believes the presidency is no longer a position LGBTQ+ Americans should have to assume is permanently out of reach.
Someone had to test that possibility.
Buttigieg already did.
Now he is suggesting the next attempt may be less about proving whether an openly gay person can run for president.
And more about proving they can win it.

BREAKING: It is now illegal in New Jersey to block access to reproductive or gender affirming care.

New Jersey just took a major stand for patients and providers. Governor Mikie Sherrill has signed legislation making it a crime to block, intimidate, or interfere with people seeking reproductive healthcare or gender-affirming care.

Under the new law, physically obstructing clinics or harassing patients and staff carries real criminal penalties. The measure also strengthens shield law protections so New Jersey will not cooperate with out-of-state efforts to punish people for care that is legal here.

While other states continue attacking bodily autonomy and medical freedom, New Jersey is protecting access and putting patients first. This is what leadership looks like.

We don't question the oncologist prescribing chemotherapy, the cardiologist performing a bypass, or the endocrinologist prescribing insulin for diabetes.

We accept their expertise because it's backed by rigorous science, clinical trials, and centuries of collective progress.

Yet, every major medical and mental health organization in the United States agrees on this proven fact.(1)

Transgender identity is a natural variant of human diversity.

The ENTIRE medical world also agrees that gender-affirming care is lifesaving.

Years ago, the psychiatric and medical professions looked closely at the data and made a definitive choice.

They completely removed transgender identity from the list of mental illnesses.

They formally declared that being transgender is not a psychiatric defect, a delusion, or a sickness.(2)

But when faced with that fact, the people who trusted their doctors to save their own lives and their children's lives suddenly become .....

The statement is that gender nonconformity (transgenderism) in and of itself is not a mental illness.

The American Psychiatric Association, together with EVERY other major medical associations, do not classify gender non-conformity (transgenderism) as a mental illness. They don’t even consider it to be a disorder. The disorder is the discomfort that some feel as a result.

JD Vance just called the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence an "anti-Christian hate group" at a Kansas rally - the same queer nuns who were pioneers in HIV/AIDS education and still serve meals to the hungry around the world.

Vance was campaigning on Monday for Republican Senator Roger Marshall, and his target was Marshall's Democratic opponent in November, the Rev. Adam Hamilton. Hamilton's church, the largest United Methodist church in the country, was one of dozens of sponsors of Kansas City PrideFest.

Vance claimed Hamilton "proudly supported a drag group called Our Ladies of Perpetual Indulgence," apparently mixing up the Sisters' name.

He then described them as "the devil worshiping group that was saying special blessings before LA Dodgers games."

The Dodgers never invited them to bless anything. In 2023, the team honored the group's LA chapter with a Community Hero Award at its Pride Night game, in recognition of its charity work.

"If he was talking about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, our name isn't the only thing the vice president got wrong," Sister Roma, one of the group's best-known members, told The Advocate.

"The Sisters are a global human rights fundraising organization. We do not mock nuns, we are nuns."

In some cases parental love is unconditional.
Beyond ones own bloodline "love" can be based on common interests, physical appearance, etc.

Is it a surprise that if such former common interests diverge, so may the emotional bonds that attended those interests?

The defect in meme #2,013 is the -I am the center of the cosmos- implication.
It prioritizes the static over the dynamic.
It advocates vengeful malice instead of nurturing acceptance, stagnation over prosperity.
