U.S. Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY) lied to the voters, and WON the election. Should he be allowed to take office?

PS
This is a bipartisan stain on the house.

The vote failed 179 to 213, with 31 Democrats joining 182 Republicans in voting against the resolution. It would have required a two-thirds majority to pass.
Santos has been charged with 23 felony counts, including wire fraud, credit card fraud and identity theft. He’s faced calls for his resignation since he took office, when journalists revealed he had fabricated much of his background and qualifications to get elected.
Raskin, a prominent progressive, said he was against the resolution because “I’m a Constitution guy.”

Ethics panel says it found 'overwhelming evidence' of lawbreaking by Republican Rep. George Santos

KEVIN FREKING / Thu, November 16, 2023 at 10:10 AM EST

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Ethics committee in a scathing report Thursday said it has amassed “overwhelming evidence” of lawbreaking by Rep. George Santos of New York that has been sent to the Justice Department, concluding flatly that the Republican “cannot be trusted” after a monthslong investigation into his conduct.
The panel said that Santos knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission; used campaign funds for personal purposes; and engaged in violations of the Ethics in Government Act as it relates to financial disclosure statements filed with the House.
Santos has maintained his innocence and has refused to resign despite calls from many of his colleagues to do so.

Good Riddance

George Santos Has Been Kicked Out of Congress, Finally

The New York Republican withstood multiple efforts to boot him from Washington, but pressure mounted after the release of a damning Ethics Committee report
BY NIKKI MCCANN RAMIREZ

George Santos has, finally, been kicked out of the House of Representatives.

The New York congressman — who repeatedly refused to resign in the face of his many scandals, including a federal criminal indictment — announced earlier this month that he will no longer seek re-election in 2024 following the release last month of a damning House Ethics Committee report that found “substantial evidence” he had committed crimes.

The final vote to expel Santos was 311-114. Two-thirds of the House needed to vote in favor of the resolution for it to pass.

These Republicans Are Furious an Indicted Serial Liar Is No Longer in Congress

A majority of the House GOP voted to expel George Santos, but some of his now-former colleagues aren’t happy
BY NIKKI MCCANN RAMIREZ

SERIAL LIAR AND alleged fraudster George Santos is no longer a member of Congress. The New York Republican was expelled from his office on Friday after a successful two-thirds majority vote to secure his ouster.

Of the 311 representatives who voted to remove Santos, 105 were members of his own party. Yet despite Santos’ track record as a liar, the criminal indictments against him, and the findings of a scathing House Ethics report exploring his alleged misconduct, some far-right Republicans are furious at the notion that a member of Congress can face repercussions for their actions.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) wrote on Friday that Santos’ expulsion was “shameful.”

“Republican voters want us to stop the communist Democrat’s agenda and hold Democrats accountable, NOT destroy our majority and do nothing to hold Democrats accountable,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Greene also pointed out that the GOP’s now-even-slimmer, three-vote majority in the House may narrow even further in the coming months as rumors swirl that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) may resign before the end of the year.

There have been partisan rivalries for about as long as there have been political parties.
But it's not clear the Democrats would have been as ruthlessly destructive to the GOP as Republicans have been.

Chris Christie: If Trump is the 2024 GOP nominee, it will be a 'death sentence' for Republicans

Sudiksha Kochi, USA TODAY / December 1, 2023 at 1:30 PM
WASHINGTON − With about six weeks to go until the Republican primary season kicks off, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is warning of a GOP "death sentence" if former President Donald Trump becomes the party's nominee in 2024.
During an interview Thursday night, NewsNation host Chris Cuomo asked Christie whether it would be a “death sentence” in the primary to criticize Trump, who has strong support from the Republican base.
“No, the death sentence is to let Trump be our nominee," Christie said.

It seems Ambassador Nikki Haley is closest to seizing the Republican primary electorate's attention as Governor DeSantis seems to have hoped (tried) to do.

Governor Christie seems to want what's best for his party. But it also seems his party isn't too interested in moderation.

George Santos Vows Revenge Against GOP Reps That Voted to Expel Him

In a series of tweets, ex-congressman threatens ethics complaints aimed at now-former New York colleagues for kicking him out of the House
BY DANIEL KREPS

George Santos won’t be taking the high road out of Washington, D.C. as the now-former congressman has promised to rain hellfire and ethics complaints against some of the Republicans who voted to expel him from Congress.

In a series of Friday night tweets, Santos set his sights on four former colleagues in his adopted state of New York specifically: GOP members Mike Lawler, Nick LaLota, Nicole Malliotakis, and Democratic Rep. Robert Menendez, the son of beleaguered New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez.

“Let’s talk about hypocrisy,” Santos warned in the first of his X tirades. “Can someone ask Nicole MalioStockTips when did she become a ....

Santos should learn something about the law before he starts throwing dirt:

Dudley Do-Right

Canadian Mountie cartoon character

Dudley Do-Right is a fictional character created by Alex Anderson, Chris Hayward, Allan Burns, Jay Ward, and Bill Scott, who appears as the main protagonist of "Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties", a segment on The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.
The segment parodies early 20th-century melodrama and silent film (the "Northern"), using only a piano as a musical background.
Dudley Do-Right's first appearance specifically incorporates silent film tropes such as intertitles and iris shots, as well as incorporating a similar plot to 1921 silent film O'Malley of the Mounted, starring William S. Hart.

Trump rages at ‘foolish’ GOP candidate who lost race for Santos’s New York House seat

Brandon Conradis / Tue, February 13, 2024 at 11:43 PM EST

Former President Trump lashed out Tuesday night after Democrats were projected to flip the New York House seat formerly held by disgraced ex-Rep. George Santos (R).
Trump in a Truth Social post branded the Republican candidate in the special election in New York’s 3rd Congressional District a “very foolish woman,” chiding her for distancing herself from the former president.
“Republicans just don’t learn, but maybe she was still a Democrat?” Trump wrote. “I have an almost 99% Endorsement Success Rate in Primaries, and a very good number in the General Elections, as well, but just watched this very foolish woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, running in a race where she didn’t endorse me and tried to ‘straddle the fence,’ when she would have easily WON if she understood anything about MODERN DAY politics in America.”

Pilip, who lost to former Rep. Tom Suozzi (D) on Tuesday night, had been registered as a Democrat since 2012, according to City & State New York. She kept Trump at an arm’s length throughout the race in the toss-up district, which went for President Biden in the 2020 election.
However, she did acknowledge during an interview with Fox 5 that Trump “did great things for the country,” according to Politico.
