MARIJUANA SEX-CRAZING DRUG MENACE - 1937 Physical Culture Magazine" S2 #81

Not fully clear to me why Drug War is so irresistible to governments.
But vice wars tell a grim history in the U.S., eloquent disclosure of our hypocrisy on the Creator endowed, Constitutionally enumerated, unalienable right of Liberty.

Too much history to disclose it all in a paragraph here. But
it's worth noting, police departments used to have "vice squads"
that policed the detrimental crime of gambling.

Detrimental until States found a way to get "a piece of the $action".
Their semantic fig-leaf was to substitute the euphemism "gaming" for "gambling",
and to run the operation themselves.

State, & multi-State lotteries are a $windfall for government, a "stupid tax".

And while President Trump's America, the U.S. federal government is still in gung-ho Drug War posture,
most of the States have enlightened up on it, at least a little.

February 29, 2024
  • 54% of Americans live in a state where the recreational use of marijuana is legal
  • 74% of Americans live in a state where marijuana is legal for either recreational or medical use.

Drug War is intrinsically hypocritical.
If use of a particular drug was as bad as the scare-mongering Chickens Little pretend,
then why must government augment the harm with drug war?
Drug use is bad, BUT not quite bad enough on its own?

Miraculous! An invisible fig-leaf !

Philosophers provide us useful insights:

"Ideas are not for believing. Ideas are for using." psychologist Joy Browne

"My job basically is thinking up goofy $#@!" George Carlin Toledo Window Box

"ignorance allied with power is the most ferocious enemy justice can have." James Baldwin

"If we do not maintain justice, justice will not maintain us." Francis Bacon 1561 - 1626

BUT !

Astronomers & astrophysicists seem to have an edge:

"As the area of our knowledge grows, so too does the perimeter of our ignorance." Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson

"The Church says that the Earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the Church." Ferdinand Magellan

Corroborating that notion, a man whose name is synonymous with genius was an astrophysicist, Albert Einstein. Way to go Al !

“Gravity slows down time … speed slows down time ...” astronomer / astrophysicist / professor / author Bob Berman
