The War on Women

" the "Roe Effect" #20

I have virtually zero doubt Republicans would like to outlaw women's right of choice for perpetuity.

According to corroborating demographic reports, females comprise a majority of the U.S. national population.
Thus, the Republican anti-choice agenda discriminates literally against a majority of the population.

Discriminating against a despised minority is easy, the Uyghurs in China an easy example, the Kurds in Iraq.

But females in the U.S. ?!

Notably, Hitler made similar mistake. Hitler tried to take over the planet. If he'd settled for the portion he could adequately ruthlessly control, he might have dodged the D-Day bullet.

Re #23

Introduced in House (01/31/2023)

This joint resolution provides that the Equal Rights Amendment, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, was ratified by three-fourths of the states and is therefore a valid constitutional amendment, regardless of any time limit that was in the original proposal.

The Equal Rights Amendment was originally proposed to the states in 1972. The original proposal included a deadline for ratification of March 22, 1979; Congress subsequently extended the deadline to June 30, 1982. Although the requisite 38 states have ratified the amendment, three of these states did so after the deadlines, and five states subsequently rescinded their ratifications. The status of the amendment has been the subject of litigation.

This from Wiki

It was written by Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman and introduced in Congress in December 1923 as a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution.

"No - the anti-abortion crowd is pro-birth. Not pro-life." S2 #27
U.S. Senator from NY Daniel Patrick Moynihan called it "semantic infiltration", tricking an opponent into accepting misnomer terminology.
For years the authoritarian prohibitionists tricked their opponents into accepting the "pro-abortion" label.

I don't know of any labels more accurate for this dispute than:
- pro-choice, &
- anti-choice.

Anti-choice is an insight into the consequence of making policy in ignorance. They're all in favor of criminalizing women's healthcare, until a woman they care about needs such healthcare.

Police are questioning Florida voters about signing an abortion rights ballot petition

KATE PAYNE

State police are showing up at Florida voters’ homes to question them about signing a petition to get an abortion rights amendment on the ballot in November, and a state health care agency has launched a website targeting the ballot initiative with politically charged language.

Critics say they’re the latest efforts by Florida’s Republican elected officials to leverage state resources to try to block the abortion rights measure, moves which some Democratic officials argue could violate state laws against voter intimidation.

“Ron (DeSantis) has repeatedly used state power to interfere with a citizen-led process to get reproductive freedom on the ballot,” Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried told reporters on Monday. “This is their latest desperate attempt before Election Day.”

The ballot initiative known as Amendment 4 would enshrine abortion rights in Florida law. If approved by 60% of voters, the procedure would ...

I'd like to know both the specific questions asked, and what specific stipulation in their police charter that requires / authorizes such investigation.

I'd also like to know:
- Are the government agents performing the interrogation in uniform? Police uniform? Displaying ID? Under arms?
- Who ordered this investigation?
- For what purpose?
- How is the collected data being processed?
- What is the intended use of this data, once compiled?

Wyoming judge strikes down abortion, pill bans

The judge said the laws — one of which was a first-in-the-nation prohibition on the use of medication to end pregnancy — violated the state's constitution

What happened

A Wyoming judge struck down two state abortion bans Monday, including the nation's first explicit prohibition on the use of medication to end pregnancy. Teton County District Judge Melissa Owens said the laws, passed in 2022 and 2023, violated the state constitution's guarantee that adults can make their own health care decisions.

Who said what

The bans on abortion generally and medication abortion specifically "impede the fundamental right to make health care decisions for an entire class of people, pregnant women," Owens said, and they "are not reasonable or necessary to protect the health and general welfare of the people." Wyoming voters overwhelming enshrined the right to make personal health care decisions in a 2012 constitutional amendment passed "amid fears of government overreach following approval of the federal Affordable Care Act," The Associated Press said.

One of the six plaintiffs in the case, Dr. Giovannina Anthony, said she was "grateful and relieved that

It's a fundamental, Founding principle of the United States of America that Liberty is an "unalienable" right [DOI].
"Unalienable" means not to be separated, given away, or taken away. There's more to it than that.

None the less, it seems the martial oppressors haven't stopped at reversing the near half-century settled law of Roe v. Wade.
For now their next advance in their authoritarian regime is "half-a-loaf". By "leaving it to the States" the authoritarians are able to usurp women's right of choice, in some locations within the U.S.

The consequence is vividly predictable.
Females (women and girls) in need of OB/GYN services may have to evade the authoritarians to obtain the healthcare they're entitled to.

Fine.
I blame Hillary.
Females are a technical population majority. In our democratic republic, that's substantial if not determinative.

Some body's gotta teach these broads to wear pants! Women have only themselves to blame for this. If they don't care, why should we?

Homicide leading cause of death for pregnant women in U.S.

Women in the U.S. who are pregnant or who have recently given birth are more likely to be murdered than to die from obstetric causes—and these homicides are linked to a deadly mix of intimate partner violence and firearms, according to researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Homicide deaths among pregnant women are more prevalent than deaths from hypertensive disorders, hemorrhage, or sepsis, wrote Rebecca Lawn, postdoctoral research fellow, and Karestan Koenen, professor of psychiatric epidemiology, in an October 19 editorial in the journal BMJ.

The U.S. has a higher prevalence of intimate partner violence than comparable countries, such violence is often fatal, and it frequently involves guns, Lawn and Koenen noted. They cited one study that found that, from 2009–2019, 68% of pregnancy-related homicides involved firearms. That study also found that Black women face substantially higher risk of being killed than white or Hispanic women.

Laws restricting women’s access to reproductive care and abortion can place women at further risk, since control over a woman’s reproductive choices often plays a role in intimate partner violence, Lawn said in an October 20 U.S. News & World Report article. Lenient firearms legislation can also increase the risk.

Koenen and Lawn called gun violence “a health emergency for pregnant women.” But they added that ...

Nothing says Pro-Life like letting women die. S2 #34
Deliberate mischaracterization in political sloganeering is a long-standing U.S. tradition.

President Reagan called them "peacekeepers",
a daisy bouquet euphemism for the LGM-118, originally known as the MX ("Missile, Experimental"), a MIRV-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

Governor Bush [R-TX] claimed to be "pro-life", while reportedly presiding over more Texas State capital executions than any other Texas governor before him.

They're not pro-"life". They're anti-choice. But they're too ashamed of their own position to admit it.

Perhaps we should indulge their anti-choice position, if in exchange WE can make their choice on guns for THEM.
