Before vaccines, children died in huge numbers from diseases which are now almost unheard of. Sometimes whole families died in a matter of a few days, as in this sad case.

We want to be up front: we aren't certain that these specific children died from a vaccine preventable disease, although such a large number of children dead within such a short time frame is typically characteristic of diphtheria, a disease so feared it was known as 'the strangling angel of children'.

This claim captures a real political clash, but it should not be presented as a direct quote. In July 2025, Mike Johnson said he did not understand Thomas Massie’s “motivation” or “how his mind works” while criticizing Massie’s effort to force the release of Epstein related Justice Department records. Johnson did not say he opposed bringing justice to the children Epstein trafficked. That wording is an interpretation. Johnson argued that Massie’s approach could expose unverified allegations, harm victims, or damage innocent people named in the records. Massie countered that his legislation required information identifying victims to be redacted and said transparency was essential to achieving justice. The disagreement, therefore, concerns how Congress should disclose the records while protecting survivors, not whether Epstein’s victims deserve justice. Still, watching lawmakers turn transparency about the sexual abuse and trafficking of minors into another partisan struggle is deeply disturbing. Accountability should never depend on which party fears embarrassment or which powerful name might appear in a document. If protections for survivors can be written into the law, why should political leaders resist an independent and transparent examination of the remaining evidence?

Donald Trump is in a hurry. He cannot wait for cumbersome bureaucratic processes, slow-moving courts or even the law itself.

He must have his arch, and he must have it now.

On Thursday, Interior Secretary Douglas Burgum announced that excavation will begin over the next two weeks for the gargantuan, garish arch Trump has been yearning to install near Arlington National Cemetery. The president calls it a “Triumphal Arch,” though what triumph it is supposed to commemorate is unclear. It will stand as a 250-foot monument to his ego, his insecurity and his bad taste.

For the dozens of existing monuments and memorials in the area, “the undertaking would result in adverse effects,” the National Park Service acknowledged in a legally mandated report.

But there could still be a happy ending to this story — if the next president has the courage. Yet just as an executive order can be revoked or a piece of legislation revised, what Trump constructs can be deconstructed. We are not stuck with the monuments to his narcissism.

The president now spends a great deal of his time working on his vanity construction projects, especially his ballroom. He is desperate to leave a physical mark on the D.C. area, so that generation after generation will know how great he was. Policy successes are for lesser presidents; his legacy will be cast in stone and .....

For 25 years, New York City officials hid the proof that they lied to first responders about 9/11. On Tuesday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani forced the vault open.

Mamdani published a public portal containing more than 170,000 pages of previously undisclosed 9/11 records.

The data drop includes internal contamination reports and 68 boxes of physical documents that previous city administrations claimed they could not locate despite years of Freedom of Information Law requests.

The records confirm what survivors suspected for decades. According to reporting from Time and Axios, city leaders knew the dust and smoke blanketing lower Manhattan contained dangerous levels of asbestos and industrial toxins.

They assured residents and rescue workers the air was entirely safe to breathe anyway.

The human cost of that lie is still compounding. Standing alongside 9/11 health advocates like Jon Stewart, Mamdani noted that more people have now died from 9/11-related illnesses than died in the attacks themselves.

The city's Fire Department reported last week that over 12,000 of its members live with certified illnesses linked directly to the rescue effort.

The document release delivers a massive blow to the architect of that coverup.

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani oversaw the city's initial response and pushed the false safety narrative. Over the weekend, Giuliani went on Newsmax to demand that Mamdani skip the upcoming 25th-anniversary memorial.

He launched an Islamophobic attack against the city's first Muslim mayor, claiming Mamdani's presence at Ground Zero would be deeply offensive to the victims.

Mamdani refused to back down. He guaranteed his attendance at the memorial and handed the public the exact documents proving the Giuliani administration poisoned American heroes.

"People got sick because the leaders they trusted lied and told them they were safe to breathe in toxic air," Mamdani said.

Rudy Giuliani went on television to demand respect. Zohran Mamdani brought the receipts.
