The $1 coin designed to celebrate America’s 250th birthday — and seemingly President Donald Trump, whose face gazes from one side of the gold finish — will go on sale Wednesday, according to the U.S. Mint.
The coin’s design — Trump’s visage as “heads” and the Great Seal of the United States as “tails” — received the stamp of approval this year from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, whose members Trump appointed.

The federal government erased two measles de*ths from its own national tracking system, all because Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he had doubts.

Pennsylvania health officials confirmed last week that two unvaccinated residents of Lancaster County passed away from measles-associated causes, the state's first measles de*ths in 35 years, amid an outbreak that has sickened hundreds and hospitalized dozens.

Kennedy publicly questioned the passings, suggesting on social media that they may have been "fabricated" by a staffer in Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro's office.

Lancaster County Coroner Stephen Diamantoni, a Republican who has held the position since first winning election in 2007, sparked controversy when he stated that a pathologist attributed the newborn's de*th to a ruptured spleen and doubted measles was a factor. This conflicted with test results showing the baby had been infected with measles at birth and had signs of the infection in lung tissue, according to an Atlantic report.

Instead of resolving that discrepancy, newly installed CDC Director Erica Schwartz ordered the agency to leave both de*ths out of its official national measles count, according to multiple current and former officials.

Governor Shapiro accused Kennedy and the Trump administration of spreading misinformation with real-world consequences for families, an accusation Kennedy volleyed back, accusing Shapiro of fearmongering.

This fight is unfolding as the country logs its worst measles outbreak in more than three decades, with thousands of cases confirmed nationwide this year.

A new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump is now being offered through vending machines at the U.S. Mint store in Washington, D.C., reportedly selling for $5 each.
Photos from Wednesday show the machines dispensing the newly released 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin as the Mint begins its official rollout. The coins are also available in 25-coin rolls and 100-coin bags, with prices ranging from $61 to $154.50. A household purchase limit of two was in effect during the initial release.
The obverse features Trump's portrait, engraved by Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna and based on an official White House photograph. It includes the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse displays the presidential seal.
Among the release are 250,000 special versions carrying a “July 4th” privy mark, randomly distributed in rolls and bags and struck at the Philadelphia Mint on July 4.
The coin's design has also prompted questions about federal restrictions concerning images of living people on U.S. currency. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent previously addressed the issue, noting that the law restricts certain uses of living portraits but does not necessarily prohibit such an image on the obverse of a coin.
Whether viewed as a legal exception or a historic precedent, the result is the same: Trump's $1 coin is legal tender, is being sold directly from Mint vending machines, and is already beginning to appear in circulation.
