The Second Term of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States of America

Pete Hegseth has stuck his foot in his mouth as he ends the Women’s, Peace and Security program. Hegseth called the program a Biden “woke initiative”. The problem with that is that Donald Trump signed it into law in 2017 and it was sponsored in the house by Trump’s Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, a Congresswoman at the time, and sponsored in the Senate by Trump’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was a Senator in 2017. The entire program was a Republican initiative. Hegseth looks like an even bigger fool after this one!

BREAKING: Donald Trump's tariffs strangle the American economy as new data reveals that unemployment claims spiked in the first quarter of 2025 while corporate profits crashed.

MAGA is driving this country straight into the ground...

"This is a sign that cracks are starting to form in the economy and that the outlook is deteriorating," said chief economist Christopher Rupkey of FWDBONDS. "There is nothing great about today's jobless claims data and the jump in layoffs may be a harbinger of worse things to come."

According to a new report from the Labor Department, the number of Americans collecting unemployment checks in mid-May hit its highest point in 3.5 years.

240,000 people applied for state unemployment benefits for the week that ended on May 25th. Reuters reports that economists had predicted 230,000. They further report that economists believe claims in June will exceed the 205,000-243,000 range for the year.

The math here is simple. The tariffs are predictably causing companies to lay off workers and the trend will only accelerate as economic uncertainty remains. As companies see their margins shrink due to higher import prices, they're looking to labor cuts to make up the difference.

The corporate profit numbers are equally grim. While far less important than the financial struggles of average Americans, these numbers are useful for determining the overall health of the economy.

Profits from current production, factored in with inventory valuation and capital consumption, dropped by a staggering $118.1 billion in the first quarter according to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Gross domestic product fell at an annual rate of 0.2%, marking the first time that the American economy has shrunk in three years. The trade deficit hit record highs despite all of Trump's tough talk.

Consumer spending rose by a measly annual 1.2% after it was originally expected to hit 1.8%. It constitutes the smallest increase in this crucial metric in three years.

Any way you look at these numbers, they spell disaster. Trump has made Americans poorer while accomplishing absolutely nothing. We have become the laughingstock of the world. Foreign countries know that they can't trust a single thing this White House says, making it impossible for them to negotiate in good faith.

Our only path forward is to ensure that Democrats sweep the mid-term elections so that they can curtail Trump's powers. Until then, our fate is tied to the erratic whims of a madman.

Who is Larry Hoover? Does Trump’s commutation of his sentence set him free?

Hoover’s federal sentence commutation is one of a number granted by Trump, but the former gang leader is still serving a 200-year state sentence for murder.
Published On 29 May 202529 May 2025
United States President Donald Trump commuted the federal drugs-and-extortion sentence of former Chicago gang leader, Larry Hoover, on Wednesday. Hoover has been serving multiple life sentences following both state and federal convictions over the past five decades.
For his federal conviction, Hoover is currently being held at the ADX Florence prison, a federal prison formally known as the United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility, in Florence, Colorado.
Commuting a sentence means reducing its length or severity, or ending it entirely. The US president has the power to commute federal sentences, but not state sentences.

Here is what we know.

Who is Larry Hoover and why was his sentence commuted?

Hoover, 74, is the cofounder of Gangster Disciples, one of Chicago’s most powerful gangs.
In a two-page order issued on Wednesday, the Trump administration commuted his federal sentence, considering it served “with no further fines, restitution, probation or other conditions” and ordering his immediate release, according to a copy of the document from Hoover’s legal team seen by The Chicago Tribune.

Hoover’s lawyers said the order was a vindication of their attempts to have their client’s sentence reduced.

Part 2 of 2
Hoover is characterized as having cofounded one of Chicago's most powerful gangs. Was he chosen by Trump because uses this method confer indebtedness, loyalty to Trump?

And what does Trump want in return? From a cofounder of one of Chicago's most powerful gangs? What "territory" is Trump planning to obtain gang-style control of, before Trump's presidential term expires?

Note: Not a lawyer, or a civil-rights activist. Can Hoover legitimately boast mastery of any of the legitimate leadership standards, such as a Harvard MBA? Is this what it looks like it is?
And what of the "200-year state sentence for murder" [#745]?

If it were only Hoover we might not see a pattern. Trump has pardoned others, not a horde of obviously innocent choir-boys.

What date will history mark as the date on which Trump's takeover began? We can rule out January 6, 2021 as Biden was inaugurated on schedule.
Will Trump attempt to solidify his gains after dismantling the FBI?
Or will Trump make the same mistake Hitler made, and succumb to his own over-reach?

Par for the course

The MAHA Report Cites Studies That Don’t Exist

The Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” report misinterprets some studies and cites others that don’t exist, according to the listed authors.

President Donald Trump, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Education Secretary Linda McMahon.

By Emily Kennard and Margaret Manto

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says his “Make America Healthy Again” Commission report harnesses “gold-standard” science, citing more than 500 studies and other sources to back up its claims. Those citations, though, are rife with errors, from broken links to misstated conclusions.

Seven of the cited sources don’t appear to exist at all.

pidemiologist Katherine Keyes is listed in the MAHA report as the first author of a study on anxiety in adolescents. When NOTUS reached out to her this week, she was surprised to hear of the citation. She does study mental health and substance use, she said. But she didn’t write the paper listed.

“The paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with,” Keyes told NOTUS via email. “We’ve certainly done research on this topic, but did not publish a paper in JAMA Pediatrics on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title.”

The White House Blames ‘Formatting Issues’ for the MAHA Report’s Citation Problems

It’s not clear that anyone wrote the study cited in the MAHA report. The citation refers to a study titled, “Changes in mental health and substance abuse among US adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic,” along with a nonfunctional link to the study’s digital object identifier. While the citation claims that the study appeared in the 12th issue of the 176th edition of the journal JAMA Pediatrics, that issue didn’t include a study with that title.

As the Trump administration cuts research funding for federal health agencies and academic institutions and rejects the scientific consensus on issues like vaccines and gender-affirming care, the issues with its much-heralded MAHA report could indicate lessening concern for scientific accuracy at the highest levels of the federal government.

The Department of Health and Human Services did not respond to a request for comment on the report’s citation inconsistencies prior to publication of this story.

The anxiety study wasn’t the only one the report cites that appears to be mysteriously absent from the scientific literature. A section describing the “corporate capture of media” highlights two studies that it says are “broadly illustrative” of how a rise in direct-to-consumer drug advertisements has led to more prescriptions being written for ADHD medications and antidepressants for kids.

The catch? Neither of those studies is anywhere to be found. Here are the two citations:

Shah, M. B., et al. (2008). Direct-to-consumer advertising and the rise in ADHD medication use among children. Pediatrics, 122(5), e1055- e1060.

Findling, R. L., et al. (2009). Direct-to-consumer advertising of psychotropic medications for youth: A growing concern. Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology, 19(5), 487-492.

Those articles don’t appear in the table of contents for the journals listed in their citations. A spokesperson for Virginia Commonwealth University, where psychiatric researcher Robert L. Findling currently teaches, confirmed to NOTUS that he never authored such an article. The author of the first study doesn’t appear to be a real ADHD researcher at all — at least, not one with a Google Scholar profile.

In another section titled, “American Children are on Too Much Medicine – A Recent and Emerging Crisis,” the report claims that 25% to 40% of mild cases of asthma are overprescribed. But searching Google for the exact title of the paper it cites to back up that figure — “Overprescribing of oral corticosteroids for children with asthma” — leads to only one result: the MAHA report.

The corticosteroids study’s supposed first author, pediatric pulmonologist Harold J. Farber, denied writing it or ever working with the other listed authors. He pointed to similar research he’s conducted, but said that even if the MAHA report cited that study correctly, its conclusions are “clearly an overgeneralization” of the findings.

“It is a tremendous leap of faith to generalize from a study in one Medicaid managed care program in Texas using 2011 to 2015 data to national care patterns in 2025,” Farber said in an email.

Spread across the footnotes of the 73-page document, those missing papers are listed alongside dozens of citations with more mundane errors like broken links, missing or incorrect authors and wrong issue numbers.

NOTUS also found serious issues with how the report interpreted some of the existing studies it cites.

PART 2

In one section about mental health medication, which Kennedy has railed against for years, the report cites a review paper it claims shows that therapy alone is as or more effective than psychiatric medicine. But one of that paper’s statisticians told NOTUS that conclusion doesn’t make sense, given their study didn’t even attempt to measure or compare therapy’s effectiveness as a mental health treatment.

“We did not include psychotherapy in our review. We only compared the effectiveness of (new generation) antidepressants against each other, and against placebo,” Joanne McKenzie, a biostatistics professor at an Australian university, said in an email.
Another paper, which the report says shows “antipsychotic prescriptions for children increased by 800% between 1993 and 2009,” actually found an eight-fold increase from 1995 to 2005.

Another medical researcher whose work was cited in a section about how screen time affects children’s sleep told us the MAHA report mischaracterized her study.

“The conclusions in the report are not accurate and the journal reference is incorrect. It was not published in Pediatrics. Also, the study was not done in children, but in college students,” Mariana G. Figueiro emailed NOTUS. She added that she even had more relevant research the authors could have used: “I was not aware of the choice, or else I would have suggested one of the other ones.”

The Trump administration commissioned the report to investigate the root causes of chronic illnesses in the U.S. From exposure to pesticides and microplastics to cell phone radiation and food coloring, the report points to many potential culprits — and claims it offers “a clear, evidence-based foundation for the policy interventions, institutional reforms, and societal shifts needed to reverse course.” The commission is also scheduled to release a “Make Our Children Healthy Again Strategy” report in August.

Kennedy has enthusiastically promoted the report, calling it a “milestone” in a post on X after its release.

“Never in American history has the federal government taken a position on public health like this,” Kennedy wrote.
UPDATE: White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Health and Human Services spokesperson Emily Hilliard later acknowledged some of the citation inconsistencies but dismissed them as formatting issues.

“Minor citation and formatting errors have been corrected, but the substance of the MAHA report remains the same — a historic and transformative assessment by the federal government to understand the chronic disease epidemic afflicting our nation’s children,” Hilliard told NOTUS in a statement. “Under President Trump and Secretary Kennedy, our federal government is no longer ignoring this crisis, and it’s time for the media to also focus on what matters.”

The administration updated the MAHA report to remove the seven references to reports that do not exist.

BREAKING: Bombshell reporting reveals that MAGA billionaire Elon Musk's departure from the Trump administration came in the wake of a violent altercation with a prominent Cabinet member.
This certainly sounds like the behavior of a drug-addled maniac...
According to The Daily Mail, Trump world figure Steven Bannon stated that Musk physically "shoved" 62-year-old Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a showdown that was previously reported as a shouting match.
"Scott Bessent called him out and said, 'You promised us a trillion dollars (in cuts), and now you're at like $100 billion, and nobody can find anything, what are you doing?'' Bannon stated.
"And that's when Elon got physical. It's a sore subject with him," he continued. "It wasn't an argument, it was a physical confrontation. Elon basically shoved him."
DOGE has been an unmitigated failure by any metric. It has engendered widespread antipathy towards the White House, weakened the federal government, inflicted mass suffering on the rest of the world by gutting crucial aid programs, all while failing to produce anything beyond the most measly of "savings." Those "savings" will in turn be washed away by Trump's "big, beautiful bill" which skyrockets the debt and deficit.
The violence occurred as Musk and Bessent were moving between the Oval Office and the office of Trump's Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and then outside the office of National Security Advisor Mike Waltz (who has since vacated the position).
"Trump 100%' sided with Bessent after the clash," revealed Bannon. "I don't think Bessent has any bad blood, but he's got a job to do and he's going to do it."
"People in the administration and the White House realized [Musk] didn't have any idea what he's doing," he said. "They cauterized the damage."
According to Bannon, the failure of DOGE was compounded by the fact that Trump falsely claimed during his State of the Union that there were millions of fraudulent Social Security recipients over the age of 100. The "mistake" was blamed on false claims from Musk that stemmed from a supposed accounting error.
"Not one penny was ever shown to have been sent to these people," said Bannon. "Is anyone trying to talk to Elon now? No."
The confrontation between Musk and Bessent was confirmed by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, although she attempted to downplay the incident and didn't mention the violence.
"It's no secret President Trump has put together a team of people who are incredibly passionate about the issues impacting our country," she told The Daily Mail.
"Disagreements are a normal part of any healthy policy process, and ultimately everyone knows they serve at the pleasure of President Trump," Leavitt added.
This is what happens when you fill your White House with deranged oligarchs, drug addicts, and crooks. This is the most incompetent administration in American history and it's going to get far worse before it gets any better.

How expanding web of license plate readers could be ‘weaponized’ against abortion

Activists fear Flock, whose tech reads license plates, might endanger women seeking abortions
Johana Bhuiyan

Flock Safety, a rapidly expanding company that sells license plate readers to police and neighborhoods across the US, has an ambitious mission: to eliminate crime.

Since being founded in 2017, Flock says it has contracted with more than 1,200 law enforcement partners in more than 40 states. It provides its services to more than 2,000 neighborhoods, and is expanding the products it offers beyond license plate readers to include a gunshot detection system.

Now, privacy advocates are warning that the extensive surveillance network could be weaponized against people seeking abortions in states that have enacted bans and restrictions on the practice following the US supreme court’s decision to repeal federal abortion protections, including by allowing police to monitor abortion clinics and the vehicles that are seen around it.

Technology like Flock’s could be used to “criminalize people seeking reproductive health and further erode people’s ability to move about their daily lives free from being tracked and traced”, said Chris Gilliard, a tech fellow at Social Science Research Council, an independent non-profit research organization.

Flock says the supreme court’s decision on abortion and warnings about how law enforcement may use its services in abortion-related prosecutions haven’t prompted it to reconsider its mission: “Flock’s mission as a business is to ....

What happens when truth becomes treason? Every empire finds its heretics. For Trump’s authoritarian movement, Harvard has become one of them.

What was once shorthand for academic excellence and intellectual leadership is now recast as a symbol of decadence, corruption, and betrayal. MAGA rhetoric paints Harvard not just as liberal, but as anti-American—an elite factory of disloyalty, indoctrination, and decay. And that reframing is no accident. It is part of a larger project: the systematic delegitimization of institutions that produce independent knowledge and uphold pluralist values.

Anthropologists know this move well. It emerges whenever power seeks to concentrate itself by narrowing the boundaries of what counts as truth. Knowledge isn’t just accumulated—it’s sanctioned. It comes with rituals of validation: peer review, public debate, education, evidence. When these rituals are attacked or discredited, it is usually a sign that political authority is trying to free itself from accountability.

This is precisely what we are witnessing.

Trump’s attacks on Harvard echo his assaults on the press, the courts, the FBI, and the CDC. The goal isn’t reform—it’s erosion—erasure of the public’s trust in institutions that might counter, complicate, or correct his narrative. Knowledge becomes framed not as a collective good, but as an elitist plot. Expertise is recast as arrogance. Education is smeared as indoctrination. The university becomes the enemy’s temple.

This is not a culture war. It’s a power grab disguised as one.

To be clear, Harvard is not above criticism. Its legacy includes exclusion, exploitation, and entanglement with power. But that is not what MAGA is after. The goal isn’t accountability—it’s submission. And the attack on Harvard is not isolated. It’s symbolic. Harvard stands in for the entire apparatus of independent thought, cosmopolitan values, and dissent. To discredit it is to weaken the legitimacy of complexity itself.

Calling Harvard “anti-American” isn’t just venting. It’s a tactic of political purification. It divides the country into loyalists and traitors—not based on actions, but on beliefs, credentials, and affiliations. In this schema, there is no loyal opposition—only enemies. And once knowledge itself becomes treasonous, there is no need to listen, only to punish.

This is how authoritarians build power: not just by silencing opposition, but by recoding dissent as disloyalty and replacing deliberation with decree. Democracy requires public trust in shared methods for establishing truth. That doesn’t mean consensus—it means an agreement about how we argue. Science, journalism, the courts, and education all play by these rules. MAGA does not. It plays by the logic of domination: truth is what the leader says it is, and anyone who disagrees is suspect.

Anthropologically, this marks a dangerous shift. It is not the end of politics, but the end of a certain kind of politics—one rooted in argument, evidence, and pluralism. In its place comes a politics of purity and exclusion. The university is only the latest battleground. But the war is for the soul of how we know anything at all.

When authoritarians go after the academy, it’s never just about ideology. It’s about control. Control over who gets to speak, who gets to question, and who gets to know. To defend democracy, we must defend the infrastructures of knowledge that sustain it—not with blind loyalty, but with the fierce clarity that comes from understanding what’s really at stake: the power to think, to argue, and to belong.

Makes total sense if you're a wannabe dictator.

This photo has been edited for your comfort and safety. Two things happening here:

1) Rump thinks Federalist judges should be loyal to him, not the constitution.

2) Breaking away from the Federalist Society is a classic dictator move: Once you gain power, you consolidate power by getting rid of the people who put you in power, because they could choose someone else to replace you.

The Federalists don't like Rump, but their interests are aligned, for now. The same with Wall Street, and other billionaires. Once their interests diverge, those groups will seek to replace Rump. Rump is now trying to make sure ALL judges are loyal to him first. This is the equivalent of the Night of the Long Knives.
