Quotable Quotes

"As president, I want to protect the women of our country. I'm going to do it whether the women like it or not." ~ Trump

I've seen this statement quoted elsewhere but still have no idea what it means.

With Aristophanes' Lysistrata as inspiration, Westerners might wonder why women allow themselves to be treated this way.
Doesn't take a rocket-surgeon with a crowbar to figure it out.

Stockholm Syndrome reaches far. Some Islamist women accept this. Sad, by Western standards.

"... women do not want nor are we asking for men to protect us, we're asking for men to stop being the thing we need protection from" #1,103
The 2024 U.S. presidential election is a rare if not unique historic example of a powerful gift on Silver platter, slapped to the ground rather than being gracious accepted.
God has bestowed upon the fairer sex population majority. In the democratic process, that's electoral supremacy.
Compounding this, VP Harris is not the first woman on the executive branch election ticket. Remember Geraldine Ferraro?
But she's the first female presidential candidate with 4 years of executive branch experience.

Ignore the exaggerated rhetoric. "Actions speak louder than words." A. Lincoln
Apparently women's right of choice simply isn't worth the toil of casting a ballot.
“In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve” French diplomat and historian Alexis de Tocqueville

"For the past nine years, we have been fighting against the most sinister, corrupt forces on Earth." ~ Trump

"Demonic." ~ Trump, on Democrats

"Retarded." ~ Trump, on Harris

President Biden delivered a brief pep-talk in the rose garden this AM / ET.

There's been a generations long tradition of treating the landscape both literal and metaphorical as our (the generation in power) property, which we bequeath to the succeeding generation/s.
While ideologically vulnerable, it seemed to work well for centuries, each generation leaving the standard of living in the U.S. a little better than they found it. Recently that's gone wobbly.

A more conservative approach, treat our landscapes literal and metaphorical not as ours to bequeath, but future gens, from whom we borrow it, with the responsibility of passing it along to them in at least as good condition as when we started.

How the second Trump administration will leave the U.S. is yet to be determined.
But retirees can at least take some comfort in the fact that even if we bequeath to the next gen a smoldering crater, it was fun while it lasted.

That's about as articulate a rhetorical shrug as I can muster at the moment.

We may take some small solace in that top ranking U.S. military officers not only take an oath of fidelity to the U.S. president, but also to the Constitution.
This will at least impart a dilemma to them if ordered by President Trump to take U.S. military action which would threaten the human race.

It may not rise to the level of a comforting "Plan - A", but in the previous Trump administration there were steps taken behind the scene by senior U.S. military commanders to circumvent cataclysm. But
before Trump exits the inauguration dais in 2025 President Trump will be a political "lame duck".

The great danger of this is, any political lame duck should know they can act with flagrant irresponsibility, knowing they'll never again have to answer to the People for it in re-election campaign.
In Trump's case, worth mentioning, the exception is if MAGA's can repeal or amend the 22nd Amendment.

The 2024 Trump election victory already signals a very major blow to U.S. national security.

These graphic images demonstrate what President Trump thinks of U.S. national security:

These images show where some of the U.S. classified documents illegally obtained by Trump, & kept unsecured at Mar a Lago.

Trump's reverence for U.S. national security is unlikely to improve in Trump's lame-duck 2nd term.

"They definitely need therapy and maybe also the death penalty." ~ Fox co-host Dana Perino, on prosecutors in Trump criminal cases

"Let me just say this to big Tish James: I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term. Because, listen here, sweetheart: We're not messing around this time, and we will put your fat ass in prison for conspiracy against rights, and I promise you that." ~ Trump lawyer Mike Davis, to NY Attorney General Letitia James

In the parlance of the overall-clad agriculturalist, - some'em's gotta give - .
That can be assessed both as probability, and consequence.
The consequence, potentially severe if the United States Constitution is either infringed, usurped, or revoked. Ordinarily that might seem fanciful. But President Trump has already tried by violent insurrection to circumvent the will of the People as Constitutionally expressed in the 2020 Trump / Biden election.
A fluke?
- perhaps -
BUT !!
Trump has already publicly, on camera, hot mic, made a campaign commitment to a U.S. dictatorship "on day one".

So the welfare of the United States of America Constitutional republic, nation, and People appear to risk both high probability, and severe consequence, from inauguration day 2025, and for four years thereafter. In that context:

"Let me just say this to big Tish James: I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term. Because, listen here, sweetheart: We're not messing around this time, and we will put your fat ass in prison for conspiracy against rights, and I promise you that." ~ Trump lawyer Mike Davis, to NY Attorney General Letitia James

seems quite consistent with other upcoming Trump administration intentions, Project 2025 for obvious ominous example.

"AOC is going to be there tying herself to immigrants. It's going to be hysterical, but sometimes Dad has to do the tough thing." ~ Fox host Jesse Watters on Trump mass deportation plan

"This is the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is now published, sometimes even in fairly respected publications. This is completely untrue. This is pure fiction, this is simply false information." ~ Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, on WaPo report that Trump talked with Putin on the phone recently and urged him not to escalate the war in Ukraine

Just in case you didn't believe that Trump had talked to Putin ...

"He's a super-genius, and we have to protect our geniuses, we don't have that many of them." ~ Trump on Elon Musk
"A broken clock is right twice a day." aphorism from the analog era

Not quite clear what any "super-genius" needs protection from.
When I saw two rocket engines returning to the planet for re-use:

Elon Musk is not your run-of-the-mill rocket scientist. HOWEVER:

Conferring cabinet status to Musk not on the basis of suitability or qualification, but
on generosity of campaign donations and loyalty to Trump is cause for concern.

* not sure why these rockets returning to Earth have nose cones

Trump sure knows how to pick them

Sen. Markwayne Mullin on Matt Gaetz, adding that Gaetz later apologized to him

Yes.
But enough about the Democrats.
Anything you can do to instill a lick of sense into the Trump gaggle?

note:
What's to become of the Republicans that had the spine to tell the truth about Trump, Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, etc.?
