However, my thanks to somethingawful.com for the satirical perspective. It is an alarming warning: Trump is ushering in a new "normal", reportedly our first U.S. president to serve while also a convicted felon.

ARTICLE2. SECTION 1. 6
The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be encreased [increased] nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the united States, or any of them.

Seems like the Founders were fairly serious about it. The word "emolument" appears in the Constitution multiple times.

Not entirely clear to me parents are sufficiently blame-worthy to be considered for prosecution, except perhaps in the aggregate. BUT !
How can we possibly overlook / dismiss / ignore the culpability of the legislators that are party to the atrocity of this legislation?
How can we apply full leniency to them for this, and still pretend to civilization?
