I read The Hardy Boys The Sinister Sign Post when I was ~single digit age. The only detail I recall, their power boat was named the Sleuth.
However, my thanks to somethingawful.com for the satirical perspective. It is an alarming warning: Trump is ushering in a new "normal", reportedly our first U.S. president to serve while also a convicted felon.

ARTICLE1. SECTION 9. 8
No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any King,Prince, or foreign State.

ARTICLE2. SECTION 1. 6
The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be encreased [increased] nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the united States, or any of them.

Seems like the Founders were fairly serious about it. The word "emolument" appears in the Constitution multiple times.
