One of America's most dangerous fault lines reaches highest stress levels in 1,000 years, study finds

As stress increases along these Southern California fault lines, so too does the likelihood of a dangerous earthquake, with a new study putting the concerning spotlight on one area: Cajon Pass.

ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS FAULT LINES IN THE US IS OVERDUE AND THE IMPACTS COULD BE CATASTROPHIC

CALIFORNIA - Just 50 miles from downtown Los Angeles, a critical junction where two of California's most powerful fault systems meet has been quietly accumulating stress levels matching 1,000-year highs, new research suggests.
It's been over 100 years since the San Andreas and San Jacinto faults produced a major earthquake, and in peacetime, tectonic stress has grown to significant heights along key parts of the systems, raising concern of a dangerous earthquake that could be catastrophic for one of the most densely populated areas in the U.S.

Whose fault? They blame San Andreas? They never heard of Trump?

They’re trying to kill women for having abortions and even using some types of birth control. Or even having a miscarriage.

I know, it sounds crazy—but that is exactly what this Republican bill coming out of North Carolina would legalize.

There are some who suggest we could pump water into the movement zone in order to facilitate the earthquake sooner, so that its magnitude is less.

When the big one hits Las Vegas will become a major west coast city .

To lubricate the fault-line ?
Earlier, S2 & s briefly discussed how droughts can cause Earthquakes. Why / how ?

Water is dense, heavy.
All the water at the surface & below weighs.
And that weight seems to help hold tectonic tensions stable. BUT !!
Relieve the weight that's holding plates from shifting, & an Earthquake can result.

Anxiety shared by many that imagine the continental shelf is cantilevered, rather than floating on magma.
For those that have noticed the obvious jigsaw puzzle fit between South America and Africa
but have puzzled over the rate of speed at which continents drift,
that speed has been likened to about the same speed human fingernails grow.

I assume that what increases earthquakes depends on the movement the earthquake would create.
If it's a subduction zone, then the movement would be one layer over another, and then the water weight of the top layer could increase immobilizing friction.
If the 2 plates are just passing by each other, then water might tend to push them apart and lubricate, to decrease immobilizing friction.

What I have read is that southern California coast trying to move north, and is stuck on Long Beach, so will likely move west and sink sometime in the future, before it continues north

Very creepy.
It is not only a violation of medical privacy, but also religion and self preservation.
As right wing as the SCOTUS is, it still is hard to believe they would allow this.

A bill making its way through the North Carolina Legislature states that it would be permissible for a person to use deadly force on a woman they believe is seeking an abortion, something Democrats have branded as "wildly extreme."

The legislation, backed only by Republican state Representative Keith Kidwell, would classify abortion as first-degree murder and open the right of another person to defend the life of the unborn baby as they see fit.

Hard to imagine this bill getting passed.
But if it does, I also believe the SCOTUS would strike it down.
Being forced to give birth would be like slavery once again.

If these adjacent tectonic plates had a frictionless interface, they'd simply slowly glide past one another at somewhat constant speed. BUT !

Far from frictionless, the jagged rock interface clings one plate to the other, until the shear strength is exceeded. Then the plates lurch to a new positions.
We call that an Earthquake.

Various human industries are associated with seismic activity, including petroleum mining.

That's funny. She doesn't look blonde.
