"The problem with speed cameras is that they are privately owned and operated," R5 #2,719
I suspect this varies, not merely State to State, but potentially municipality to municipality within a State. The speed cameras around S2 are owned and operated by the government.

" so there is incentive to cheat, " R5 #2,719
Even government police may have such incentive. So much so there's even a nickname for it: "cash-register justice".

"Doppler radar is notoriously inaccurate." R5 #2,719
I'm not up for a squabble here, but they're not known as "the suggestions of physics".
They're called "the laws of physics", and I gather it's as accurate as we can measure it.

If speed-trap radar is inaccurate, I suspect that's due to hardware deficiency, whether poor design,
incompetent calibration, or other operator error.

"But that does not mean they are accurate" R5 #2,722
How inaccurate are they? 2.3% high? 4.1% low? Inconsistent within a +/- 7.3% range ?

What degree of accuracy would you accept to render accuracy a non-issue?

" or even legal." R5 #2,722
That's a substantial issue to me. BUT !
The law doesn't seem to impede government much anymore.

Drug War is example enough.
Drug War is the martial usurpation of the Creator endowed, Constitutionally enumerated, unalienable right of Liberty.
Drug War punishes the exercise of the unalienable right of Liberty as a crime.
How can the exercise of an unalienable right possibly be a crime ?!

Point being, whether it's legal is a substantial issue.
But the more fundamental issue, will it remain in use?

Count on it !

When one says "accuracy" they usually mean the acceptable variance is its normal function, consistently.
But the problem with doppler radar, is that sometimes it can appear 100% accurate, and other time it can be 100% wrong.
Just someone using a microwave nearby can make it totally off.
Just a long fence behind your vehicle can make it totally off.
There is no consistency with doppler radar since it is so cheap and does not verify that what it is reading is from what it sent out.

"Every time you say "woke" a gay angel creates another drag queen" #2,731
woke

adjective

Synonyms of woke
chiefly US slang : aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/woke
Webster does not list "aware" on its synonyms list.
Nope, not sure why not.
The agenda driven horde uses "woke" as an insult, treating those informed on issues with contempt,
for not embracing unjustifiable policies without question / challenge.

The #2,731 meme suggests parity.
Count me a skeptic.

"Woke" was and or is a common form of dismissal in fora like CitizenVoice.us where ideas & political positions are tested / contested.
"Woke" is not a logical argument. It's an embrace of ignorance.

"Woke" originally means being alert to social and racial injustices, but today it can also be used sarcastically to criticize perceived performative activism.

Historical Origins

The term woke comes from African American English and is derived from the word "awake," meaning to be alert or aware WikipediaWikipedia+2. Its earliest recorded use dates back to the 1930s, when blues musician Lead Belly advised Black Americans to “stay woke” while traveling through the Jim Crow South, warning them to remain vigilant in a dangerous and unfair society Merriam-WebsterMerriam-Webster+1. The phrase was later used in the civil rights era of the 1960s and 1970s to encourage awareness of racial discrimination and social injustice equalityanddiversity.co.ukequalityanddiversity.co.uk+1.

Contemporary Usage

In modern times, woke has broadened to signify awareness of various social inequalities, including sexism, LGBTQ+ rights, and systemic discrimination WikipediaWikipedia+1. It became widely popular during the 2010s, particularly through the Black Lives Matter movement, where activists used "stay woke" to promote vigilance against police violence and racial injustice WikipediaWikipedia+1. Dictionaries now define it as being “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues, especially issues of racial and social justice” Merriam-WebsterMerriam-Webster.

Pejorative and Political Connotations

Over time, the term has also been used sarcastically or pejoratively, especially by critics of progressive movements. In this sense, woke can imply performative or superficial activism, sometimes referred to as "woke-washing" or "woke capitalism," where social justice messaging is used for marketing or political purposes WikipediaWikipedia+2. Some commentators also describe a "woke right," where similar tactics are applied to enforce conservative beliefs WikipediaWikipedia. The term’s vagueness allows it to be used as a political cudgel, often encompassing debates about race, gender, climate change, and corporate policies

Thanks R5.

It's not merely that it's dismissive / insulting to those that are informed. It's simultaneously / correspondingly used to justify ignorance (roughly the opposite of "woke") and injustice, etc.

In my experience those using the term "woke" as a weapon understand their own position is not defensible in logical contest.
So rather than risk such defeat, they attempt to sidestep such risk by dismissal, name-calling.

It mirrors a slogan from the previous millennium: "My mind is made up. Don't confuse me with the facts."
