And American hero that almost nobody has ever heard of ....

1783249029480.png

Frank Kameny was a Harvard-trained astronomer and a World War II combat veteran when, in 1957, the U.S. government fired him from his job with the Army Map Service for a single reason: he was gay. Most people in his position stayed silent and vanished. Kameny did the opposite.

He had fought across Europe as an infantryman and seen frontline combat against the German army. So when the same government he'd risked his life for branded him unfit and unemployable over who he loved, the hypocrisy was not lost on him.

In a 1961 letter to President John F. Kennedy - one of the first times anyone demanded equality for gay Americans from a sitting president - he laid it out plainly:

"In World War II, I willingly fought the Germans, with bullets... In 1961, it has become necessary for me to fight my own government, with words, in order to achieve some of the very same rights, freedoms, and liberties for which I placed my life in jeopardy in 1945."

He carried that fight all the way to the Supreme Court, becoming the first person ever to bring a gay civil rights claim before it. He lost - so he built a movement instead, coining the slogan "Gay Is Good" and organizing some of the first gay rights pickets outside the White House in 1965.

He lived long enough to watch nearly all of it reversed. The ban on gay federal workers fell, homosexuality was struck from the official list of mental illnesses in a fight he personally led, and in 2009 the government that fired him issued a formal apology.

He died in 2011, on National Coming Out Day, at the age of 86. The 4th of July is the perfect day to remember him, and people like him.

Adding a sentence or two of explanation / clarification, for example what distinguishes this hotline from others, etc

I realize posting it there might seem like burying it there.
OTO it could save a life.
Worth it?

Trump's HHS abandons threat to withhold Medicare and Medicaid funding over trans care

July 13, 20264:22 PM ET
Heard on All Things Considered / Selena Simmons-Duffin / Transcript

The Trump administration is abandoning its most aggressive attempt to end gender-affirming care for youth nationally, according to an official document obtained by NPR.
The document shows that the Department of Health and Human Services will not be finalizing a proposed rule that would have blocked all Medicaid and Medicare funding for hospitals that provide pediatric gender-affirming care.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services told NPR in a statement: "CMS does not comment on future rulemaking or speculate on potential actions. The Trump Administration rejects ideologically driven surgical interventions on vulnerable children."

Fine.
Why? It seems unlikely the Trump administration has suddenly reached epiphany. Feeling short of cash Donald?

I'm not quite sure what to think of the accompanying photograph.
No need to over-interpret. None the less not clear to me the significance of the traditional bridal dress for the blonde,
and the suit & tie for the brunette, traditional for men, but ... ?

It may simply be a reflection of the culture of weddings (time scale minutes / hours), and not of the inter-relational dynamic between them as a couple in marriage (time scale years / decades).
Hypothetically it's possible for both to wear a traditional woman's wedding dress, or conversely
both to wear suit & tie.
So they split the baby?

My reason for expressing curiosity about this:
has the tide of culture proven so powerful that even in lesbian marriage hetero gender distinctions overshadow?

If they were Madam & Eve in the Garden of Eaten (meaning in the absolute absence of gender differentiated context) what would they wear?
An oldie but worth reposting

RIGGING THE SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE CLARENCE THOMAS DECLARES OPEN WAR ON TRANSGENDER AMERICANS
🤬

DEAR FRIENDS- When a sitting Supreme Court Justice uses an official legal opinion to declare that your very existence is a "lie to the public," it is no longer just an objective, non-partisan court ruling.

It’s a direct threat.

On June 30, 2026, the Supreme Court handed down a devastating decision allowing states to ban transgender athletes.[1]

But while the majority focused on sports, Justice Clarence Thomas went completely rogue.

In a solo concurring opinion, Thomas launched an unprovoked attack on transgender Americans, using his lifetime appointment to wage a personal crusade against transgender citizens’ identity.

He wrote explicitly that “sex is an unchangeable biological trait that is strictly binary”.[2]

He then declared that using transgender-affirming language is simply "to lie to the public".[3]

Most everyday Americans don’t pay attention to the Supreme Court, and many do not even know who Clarence Thomas is.

But we can’t afford to look away anymore.

This man was appointed to his seat for life.

He answers to nobody, he cannot be fired, and he is using the most powerful court in the world to run a personal vendetta against transgender people.

BY USING HIS OFFICIAL STATEMENT TO BRAND A VULNERABLE POPULATION’S EXISTENCE AS A LIE, THOMAS COMPLETELY ABANDONED HIS JOB TO BE A FAIR AND NEUTRAL JUDGE!

By dismissing a scientifically proven reality, this man didn't act like a judge.

He openly declared himself a hostile, anti-transgender activist right from the highest bench in the country.

This isn't a simple difference of opinion- it’s an outright war on facts!

THE ENTIRE GLOBAL SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY STANDS COMPLETELY UNITED ON THIS: BEING ....

Sadly, CT is not fit for his office.
It appears he was chosen from among the candidates considered, as a token, not so much to balance the court,
but to indemnify the GOP against the appearance of being a White men's party.

When violence targets who you are: LGBTQI+ survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in occupied Ukraine

Analee Pepper adviser to the Head of the UN in Ukraine / 14 July, 05:30

"I'll show you that men are much better."

Two months before the liberation of Kherson, Olena (name changed), a young lesbian woman, was detained by Russian soldiers while working as a shop assistant. During a search of her home, soldiers found a Ukrainian flag and an LGBTQ+ rainbow flag.
After learning that she was a lesbian, they detained her and demanded information about other LGBTQ+ people in the city.
When Olena refused to cooperate, she was beaten and threatened with sexual violence.
"I'll show you that men are much better," one soldier told her while she was restrained and unable to move.
The abuse continued during subsequent detentions. To this day, Olena has not reported the crimes to law enforcement authorities.

"If we meet again, I'll rape you."
