Today’s events represent a coordinated, multi-front assault.

We're forced to watch a spectacle of shameless grift, from the massive crypto payday for the Trump and Witkoff families guaranteed by a self-dealing arrangement to the nation's highest honor given to Rudy Giuliani. The noise covers for the quiet sabotage of our ability to function. They are gutting public health and scrapping climate data. Giuliani is the perfect symbol of this cynical game. He’s a COVID denier who took the special care denied to others, now rewarded for helping dismantle the very systems meant to protect us all.

He was disbarred for lying about the 2020 election results, but he probably won't mind as he receives the Medal of Freedom.

Congress is back in session this week. Tell your representatives to do their job and stop the rot.

HOUSTON (AP) — The Trump administration already has denied visas for Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and his large delegation to attend a high-level U.N. meeting this month and is now considering ramping up restrictions on several other delegations that would severely limit their ability to travel outside New York City.
Potential travel and other restrictions could soon be imposed on the delegations from Iran, Sudan, Zimbabwe and, perhaps surprisingly, Brazil, which has held a traditional place of honor during the high-level leaders gathering at the U.N. General Assembly that begins Sept. 22, according to an internal State Department memo seen by The Associated Press.
While the potential restrictions are still under consideration and the circumstances could change, the proposals would be another step in the Trump administration’s crackdown on visas, including a wide-ranging review of those already holding legal permissions to come to the U.S. and those seeking entry to head to the U.N. meeting.

Today, the battlefield expanded to places we thought were safe.

Broadcasters at the U.S. Open were instructed to censor any negative reaction to the president’s attendance. West Point abruptly canceled an award for Tom Hanks. They’ve stuffed the closet so full of crises that the buckling door is the only thing you can hear in the quiet weekend days, and now we’re all waiting for it to fly open and dump its contents on us again.

No grand ideology exists. Today’s news was self-interest oozing from the administration’s main players. In one corner of the country, a governor was baselessly blaming "a leftist" for an assassination while the Vice President planned to spend part of Monday hosting his buddy's podcast.

At the exact same time, the Justice Department was in court trying to break the Federal Reserve. No secret plan connects these activities, only a shared, craven instinct to exploit every tragedy and attack every institution for personal gain. Sunlight remains a great disinfectant for this kind of slimy self-enriching behavior.

Let's show the world what they're really about and then root out their behavior in our local governments. That works.

Just ask the Johnson County Board of Supervisors chair in Iowa. He refused to lower flags in his county to honor someone who denigrated the people living there. Kirk's behavior withers in that bright sunlight.

Every move is a loyalty test now. At a memorial meant for mourning, the president told tens of thousands that he “hates his opponents” and wants no good for them.

Science, journalism, and national honors are bent into tests of allegiance. Tylenol is politicized, reporters are silenced, and medals are handed out like party favors.

Resistance is punished.That should terrify every American. Let’s empower those who refuse to bend in our communities. That means showing up when they are targeted, defending them out loud, and refusing to be silent.

Two speeches underscored the day.

Donald Trump railed at the world’s leaders, sneering that their countries were going to hell. Jimmy Kimmel returned from suspension, praised figures in both parties, spoke about his faith, highlighted Erika Kirk’s public forgiveness, all while his voice cracked as he teared up. Side by side, Trump’s rage shrinks against simple grace.

Corruption becomes normalized as we become numb to his gaslighting and propaganda. Refuse that.

Adelita Grijalva’s landslide in an Arizona House race is proof people are still fighting back. Stepping into the seat her late father once held, she not only shrank the GOP majority.

She also set up a vote to compel release of the Epstein files.
