In a big city it may happen at a park, sidewalk, or perhaps public transit.

In more rural locations where the privately owned vehicle (POV) rules, it may be any sort of parking lot.

What's the protocol? Turn rapidly and sprint away?
Wave dismissively and follow an evasion course?

Then what?

There are other related scenarios, seeing the boss seated at a nearby table at the restaurant. What then?

Technology is changing our culture. However we handle this scenario today, it's likely to be different than it would have been handled a century ago.

Air conditioning has taken us off the porch Summer evenings, kept us inside.
Smartphones dominate our attention, even when there are familiar faces within view. Is our technology dehumanizing us?
