The war in Iran (or whose war is it anyways?)

"Why else is he so determined to prevent people from voting in the mid-terms?" S2 #121
Indeed.
Ideologically it's tantamount to a confession.
Republicans know, and have tacitly admitted, their objectives and principles will not / can not win in open and honest competition against Democrat objectives, principles, and prior accomplishments.

So Republicans lie: no foreign wars, low consumer prices
Republicans cheat, pack our law courts. They wouldn't have reversed Roe otherwise.

What continues to astound and baffle me, not only is a significant% of the electorate aware of this, they approve it.

BREAKING: HOORAY! The downed airman in Iran has been RESCUED…but at huge cost!

The epic saga of the downed F-15 weapons systems operator has ended in success, as the US military pulled off a complex and very dangerous rescue mission behind enemy lines.

While it’s unclear what happened, it appears that the first set of rescue craft either got “stuck in the mud” and destroyed by the US to avoid them falling into enemy hands (according to the Trump admin) or were shot down (according to the Iranians) and a second set of aircraft had to be deployed to get everybody out.

The airman is in critical condition and several other servicemembers were injured. Two C-130 planes and two helicopters were lost in the operation, which Trump is now billing as a huge success.

Chris Gordon, a reporter for Air and Space Forces Magazine, reports that Reaper drones patrolled the area and were striking “military-aged males” who were “believed to be a threat,” meaning they just flew around indiscriminately killing everyone in the area.

While we are beyond thankful our brave servicemember was rescued safely, the inconvenient truth is that none of this needed to happen.

We didn’t need to lose multiple aircraft, sustain injuries to our servicemembers, or piss millions of dollars down the drain because this war didn’t need to happen and only broke out because Donald Trump attacked Iran while pretending to negotiate in a despicable show of cowardice.

This is no victory. We can only hope that the “success” of this mission doesn’t encourage Trump to go forward with his insane plan to send our troops into harm’s way to steal Iran’s uranium.

The Strait of Hormuz is reopening, but not for everyone.

Abbas Araghchi said the strait remains open, except for ships from the United States and Israel, while vessels from other countries can still pass through.

In recent days, ships associated with France, Japan, and India have crossed successfully, including a French cargo vessel and oil tankers from Japan and India, signaling a selective reopening under Iran’s terms.

Tehran’s message is clear: this is not a full shutdown, but a targeted restriction aimed at specific countries, while the rest of the world continues to use this vital trade route.

With roughly 20% of global oil moving through this passage, access to it is now playing a major role in both the conflict and the global economy.

But a question - how long will it be before Donnie decides this is unacceptable and manages to block the Strait while blaming it on Iran?

It may not rise to the level of a news flash. But it's an important historic detail the consequences of which may bedevil the world for the foreseeable future:

President Trump has lost his War in Iran. Trump may continue to wage it for as much longer as he has U.S. military command.
Trump's best shot at this ill-timed War was a hearts & minds victory, with a much lower budget, much more effective cooperation with Iran's native opponents of the Ayatollah's regime.
We've succeeded before, ousting Iran's duly elected Mossadegh.

Trump's cascade of blunders is gaining momentum. Some indications more vivid than others.

Hegseth’s ‘paranoia’ of being replaced explains purge of top general — as ally emerges for Army secretary’s role

By Steven Nelson Published April 3, 2026, 4:33 p.m. ET
WASHINGTON — Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Thursday demanded the resignation of Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George — Driscoll’s top aide — in the middle of the Iran war for reasons that were not publicly stated.
“This is all driven by the insecurity and paranoia that Pete has developed since Signalgate. Unfortunately, it is stoked by some of his closest aides who should be trying to calm the waters,” an official said, referring to Hegseth’s March 2025 group chat with national security officials that inadvertently included a reporter.

Dumping, forfeiting this much competence in hope of increasing loyalty is a very bad idea in a $Billion $Dollar a day War.
Compounding this, not only are we blowing up our own C-130's. Trump's war crimes list is growing.
And as expensive as Trump's War already is, if the U.S. is held liable for war reparations, we may add $Trillions to the U.S. $federal $debt before President Vance is inaugurated.

Don't worry. He keeps changing his mind
Is everyone looking forward to TACO Tuesday? #126

taco, fast food for a dim wit? Trump may not care much for Mexicans. But he's obviously delighted about Mexican peasant food. As spicy as his twits?
