I am ASTOUNDED this convicted felon has been allowed to do this much harm, despite his explicit ineligibility to hold the office.

The hearing, by the Washington Post's own account, produced no new revelations about COVID's origins or the government's response — just dueling partisan narratives, with Republicans accusing Fauci of misleading Congress and Democrats defending him.
Here's the timeline worth putting back on the table, because it never should have left it:
**January 21, 2020** — The first confirmed U.S. COVID case is announced. Trump is president. Fauci, NIAID director since 1984, is already the administration's lead infectious disease official.
**February–March 2020** — Fauci appears at the White House podium alongside Trump for the first Coronavirus Task Force briefings. Trump publicly praises him repeatedly during this stretch, calling him "a great professional."
**March 16, 2020** — Trump announces "15 Days to Slow the Spread," with Fauci standing beside him, launching the first nationwide shutdown guidance.
**Spring–Summer 2020** — Fauci remains the administration's chief medical advisor through the peak Trump-era pandemic months: the hydroxychloroquine debate, the reopening pushes, the daily briefings where Trump and Fauci frequently appeared together and, at times, visibly disagreed on camera.
**May 2020** — Trump launches Operation Warp Speed, the vaccine development initiative that is, to this administration's credit, widely credited with accelerating vaccine availability — developed under Trump, with Fauci as part of the same administration's public health leadership.
**October 2020** — Trump himself is hospitalized with COVID.
**January 2021** — Trump leaves office after the January 6th insurrection at the Capital building. The U.S. death toll has already passed 400,000 — the overwhelming majority of pandemic-era deaths up to that point occurring entirely under the Trump administration, with Fauci serving as his administration's top infectious disease official the entire time.
For a full year of the pandemic — the period covering the initial outbreak, the first lockdowns, the worst uncertainty, and the vaccine rollout's launch — he was Trump's Fauci, appearing at Trump's podium, implementing Trump's task force's guidance. Questioning Fauci's record is fair game; that's what oversight hearings are for. Questioning it while erasing which president he served for the pandemic's defining first year is not oversight — it's rewriting the record in real time.

Exactly one year after the RFK Jr. cut nearly $500 million in mRNA vaccine projects, the FDA approved the country’s first mRNA flu vaccine.
Moderna’s mFlusiva is approved for adults 50 and older. In a trial involving more than 40,000 participants, it was 26.6% more effective than a standard-dose flu vaccine at preventing laboratory-confirmed illness.
That is a relative comparison with another vaccine, not an additional 26.6 percentage points of protection.
The FDA granted traditional approval for adults ages 50 to 64. For adults 65 and older, it granted accelerated approval after mFlusiva generated stronger immune responses than a high-dose flu vaccine. Moderna must now conduct a larger study confirming its benefits in that group.
Independent FDA advisers voted 9–0 that the vaccine’s benefits outweighed its risks in both age groups. No major safety problems were identified, although temporary reactions such as injection-site pain, fatigue, headache and fever were more common than with conventional flu shots.
The approval comes after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sharply reduced federal support for the technology.
On August 5, 2025, the Department of Health and Human Services announced it was terminating, reducing or canceling 22 mRNA vaccine investments managed through BARDA, the agency responsible for preparing the country against major biological threats.
The affected projects were worth nearly $500 million and involved universities, biotechnology companies and major vaccine manufacturers. HHS also stopped launching new mRNA projects and instructed its investment arm to end mRNA-related equity investments. Some late-stage projects were allowed to continue, and other medical uses of mRNA were not affected.
Kennedy claimed mRNA vaccines failed to protect effectively against respiratory infections such as COVID-19 and flu. He said funding would instead move toward whole-virus vaccines and other platforms he described as safer and broader.
The new approval does not prove that every canceled project would have succeeded, and mFlusiva was developed separately. But it demonstrates that an mRNA flu vaccine can outperform a conventional shot in a large clinical trial and meet the FDA’s standards.
The timing highlights a striking divide inside the U.S. government: one agency withdrew hundreds of millions of dollars from the technology while another approved its latest breakthrough.
