There are so many bad angles to this, difficult to pick just one.

Let's start here:
Republicans: please stop pretending to be political conservatives. You're not.
And the absurdity of your self-aggrandizing pretense is an insult to genuine conservatives.

BREAKING: Donald Trump's attorneys horrify legal experts by arguing that federal agents have the right to invade homes without a warrant based on an archaic 18th century wartime law.

The sound of fascist jackboots is growing louder...

According to the increasingly authoritarian administration, federal agents should be able to exploit the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 — the same law they abused recently to deport alleged Venezuelan gang members — to enter homes without a court order.

The Act in question has only been used three times in American history, including the horrific internment of the Japanese during World War 2.

Crucially, the law allows federal agents to circumvent the Fourth Amendment and can technically be applied to target any foreigner that the president labels an "alien enemy," theoretically giving Trump incredible leeway to abuse his powers.

The crucial section of the Act allows federal agents to enter "at least a foot in the door with respect to arguing that the president can order this on his own authority."
If the Fourth Amendment is torched in this fashion, the rest of the Constitution might not be far behind.

"The Fourth Amendment applies to everyone in the U.S., not just individuals with legal status," said Christopher A. Wellborn, president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

He explained that removing the Amendment would be "an abuse of power that destroys our privacy, making Americans feel unsafe and vulnerable in the places where our children play and our loved ones sleep."

Since Trump has already demonstrated a willingness to discard due process, it's not hard to envision a scenario in which countless innocent people are rounded up, denied proper legal recourse, and shipped off to hellish prisons in El Salvador.

Elections can be suspended if the country is at war. Trump claims Presidents can determine whether they are at war or not.

This is not Trump's first violation of Constitutional law. Is it any wonder that ignoring the first has precipitated the others?

Trump revokes security clearances for Biden, Harris, Clinton and other enemies

Seb Starcevic / Fri, March 21, 2025 at 11:21 PM EDT
President Donald Trump revoked security clearances for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and a string of top Democrats and political foes in a presidential memo late Friday.
“I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information,” Trump wrote.
He went on to name a list of 15 opponents and Biden-era officials, including Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, former Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger and New York Attorney General Letitia James, who prosecuted Trump for fraud, as well as former president Biden’s entire family.
It is unclear what formal security clearance was possessed by some of the figures named in the memo. Trump had already announced his intention to rescind security clearance for Biden in February, and National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard said on March 10 that she had revoked access for Blinken, James and others per Trump’s directive.

Barring Biden from intelligence briefings is a tit-for-tat move after Biden banned Trump from accessing classified documents in 2021, arguing he could not be trusted because of his "erratic behavior."
In the past, former presidents have been briefed on certain matters and allowed access to sensitive information as a courtesy, though they often have no formal security clearance.
Trump said in his memo Friday that he would also “direct all executive department and agency heads to revoke unescorted access to secure United States Government facilities from these individuals.”

"I'm not gunna have time for retribution. We're gunna make this country so successful again, I'm not gunna have time for retribution. And, and remember this. Our ultimate retribution is success." Trump on FOX News Democracy '24 Iowa Town Hall television
President Trump is an exceptionally petty, resentful personality.

"Vengeance need not be directed specifically at the one responsible.
Retribution (which is not the same thing as vengeance or revenge) is limited, directed, proportionate response." New York Law School Professor Robert Blecker, on subject of Tim McVeigh execution

Brace yourselves: whatever crazy, awful things Trump may have done to date, it’s only going to get worse

Andrew Coyne

Skate to where the puck is going, not to where it’s been. That bit of trite wisdom, attributed to Wayne Gretzky, might usefully be applied in assessing the risks posed by Mr. Gretzky’s political idol, Donald Trump.

Every time we think we have taken the measure of Mr. Trump, every time we think we have understood the depths of his depravity, the absoluteness of his nullity, the scale of the threat he represents – to American democracy, to Canada, to the peace of the world – he defeats us. He does or says something far worse than we had ever thought possible, even of him.

We need to learn from this, fast. Because Mr. Trump is metastasizing, mutating, rapidly worsening. He is on a kind of exponential spiral, his behaviour approaching levels of madness and mayhem that had never previously been imagined, let alone seen.

Our expectations of him are forever playing catchup to the reality. Which means we are forever calibrating our responses, not to where Mr. Trump is going, but to where he has been. That way lies disaster.

We need to understand that however awful Mr. Trump’s behaviour may have been until now – however callous, dictatorial, insane or dangerous, and however it may seem to have defined the limits of what is possible in each regard – it is only going to get worse, and at a rate that will itself defy all expectations.

Consider Mr. Trump’s performance in just the month or so since he took office. Did even the most alarmist of Mr. Trump’s critics anticipate he would not just undercut Ukraine in its struggle for survival against the Russian invaders, but take the Russian side in every material respect – assigning blame for the invasion not to Russia, but to Ukraine; cutting Ukraine out of the negotiations on its fate, while ruling out NATO membership and the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity in advance; voting with Russia against a UN resolution denouncing the invasion; and demanding Ukraine pay the United States half a trillion dollars in reparations for the offence of having resisted its own annihilation (and decimating the Russian war machine in the process), a figure that is many times the actual amount of American aid it has received?

Did anyone imagine he would not just make similarly extortionary demands of his NATO partners in return for the United States’ “protection,” but effectively signal that no such protection would be provided, should Russia expand its attacks on Europe beyond the multifaceted hybrid-warfare campaign in which it is already engaged? Did even Mr. Trump’s supporters anticipate that he would also telegraph, in the space of the same few fevered days, that he would abandon Taiwan?

Or, closer to home, did anyone imagine that the original Trump threat to Canada – that we would be included in his proposed global tariff of 10 to 20 per cent, notwithstanding our joint membership in a continental free trade area – would suddenly swell into a special 25-per-cent tariff applicable only to ourselves and Mexico, and then into a campaign to forcibly annex the country? Was, likewise, the invasion and seizure of Greenland, or the Panama Canal, ever envisaged?

Did anyone predict, when the pseudo-official Department of Government Efficiency was first announced, what it would become, scant weeks later: a wrecking ball of dubious legal authority, consisting of ....

Once chain-reaction dominoes have begun to fall, stopping them is easier said than done.

Considering how Schumer caved on the Republican's spending priorities,
by the time the Dems. come up with a plausible policy response the last domino in the Republican line will have long since obtained horizontal tenure.

"MAGA" ?
Really?
Define "great".

They may think so.
Fact is, Trump has taken one or more positions on a broad variety of federal issues.
Trump was re-elected by a plurality of voters, not a majority of voters, and that's a minority within the broader national population.

Former US Attorney Jessica Aber, 43, found dead at Virginia residence: police

Jessica Aber, 43, was 'irreplaceable as a human being,' DOJ colleague says
By Andrea Margolis , David Spunt Fox News / Published March 22, 2025 7:47pm EDT

A former United States attorney was found dead in Virginia Saturday morning, just two months after leaving office.

Jessica D. Aber, 43, worked as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2021 to 2025. Appointed by former President Joe Biden, she served in the role until resigning Jan. 20.
In a news release Saturday, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed Aber's death, reporting it received a call about an "unresponsive woman" at around 9:18 a.m. Saturday.
"As a matter of protocol, an investigation is underway surrounding the circumstances of her death," the APD said in its statement. "The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia will determine the cause and manner of death."
"She was unmatched as a leader, mentor and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being," Siebert said. "We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all-too-brief time in this world. Her professionalism, grace and legal acumen set the standard."

From only the information provided here, not enough to point the accusatory finger. BUT !!

This bears several familiar characteristics of Putin's Moscow.

Trump has already dodged an assassin's bullet, has a pierced ear to show for it.
Will Trump have to dodge a murder charge as well?

Google Maps now shows Gulf of America, ... #151

- magnificent -

BUT !!
If we (Trump) is gunna tell it like it is, why are we all ignoring the obvious? Ever hear of the "bald eagle"? Our national symbol?

baldEagle.JPG 1742729371604.png

It's not actually bald. "Platinum blonde" may be less inaccurate. BUT !!
If Trump is really serious about fixing America, MAGA,
then fix time D.J. !

When we count, the numbers in succession include: 10, 11, & 12. BUT !
11AM & 12AM are not one hour apart. They're 11 hours apart !

What a rip-off !
And this miscarriage of chronology is costing each U.S. tax payer Trillions of dollars per minute !
If Trump keeps this up, we'll all soon be broke !

Now that you've at long last solved our terrible Gulf of Mexico problem, so big you can float a barge on it,
surely you can fix our time problem, so tiny it fits in a wristwatch.

Fix it Donald. Everyone will think of you as our great orange hero.

BREAKING: Conan O'Brien and other top comedians brutally humiliate Donald Trump at the Kennedy Center — ripping into the "orange a**hole" despite the MAGA coup to seize control of the famous cultural center.

This is just too good...

"It’s an honor to be here at the Kennedy Center, or as it will be known next week, the ‘Roy Cohn Pavilion for Big, Strong Men Who Love Cats,’" Comedian John Mulaney joked on stage.

The crowd was gathered to honor O'Brien as he received the coveted "Mark Twain Prize for American Humor" which is handed out to "the world’s greatest humorists."

“I just really miss the days when you were America’s only orange a**hole,” Sarah Silverman joked to O’Brien, prompting a roar of laughter from the audience which also included David Letterman, Tracy Morgan, and Adam Sandler.

Stephen Colbert observed that the Kennedy Center has become "a very different place" under Trump, adding: "Today, they announced two board members: Bashar al-Assad and Skeletor."

Colbert also parodied O'Brien's popular appearance on the Hot Ones podcast, appearing on stage in a costume to joke: "In light of the new leadership at the Kennedy Center, all of these are right wings."

The blast of jokes at Trump's expense comes at a time when he is furiously abusing his power as president to reshape the Kennedy Center.

He named himself chairman of the center and has installed his cronies on the board. O'Brien was named the Mark Twain recipient weeks before Trump began the reshaping.

"Thanks to my people who invited me here a few months ago: Deborah Rutter and David Rubenstein,” O'Brien said during his acceptance speech, referring to the former board member and chair that Trump removed.

"Honestly, I don’t know why they aren’t here tonight. I lost Wi Fi in January—guessing they’re in traffic,” he continued.

"And a special thanks to all the beautiful people who have worked here at the Kennedy Center for years and who are worried about what the future might bring," he added.

"Twain was a patriot in the best sense of the world. He loved America, but knew it was deeply flawed. Twain wrote, ’patriotism is supporting your country all of the time and your government when it deserves it.’ Now, some of you, some of you might be thinking, ‘what does this have to do with comedy?’" said O'Brien.

"Twain is funny and important today because his comedy is a hilarious celebration of our fears, our ineptitude, and the glorious mess of being human," he added.
O’Brien also addressed Trump's efforts to reshape the Kennedy Center while on the red carpet—

"Only he knows his priorities best," said the comedian. "There’s a lot going on in the world, but probably taking control of the Kennedy Center should be at the top of the list."

"I’m not a historian, but I believe that history will show this will be the most entertaining gathering of the resistance ever," said David Letterman, himself a former Mark Twain Prize winner.

The award show will air on Netflix eventually, at which point we should expect a deranged angry outburst from our "orange a**hole" president.

BREAKING: Conan O'Brien and other top comedians brutally humiliate Donald Trump at the Kennedy Center — ripping ... #355
Thanks S2.
Conan's award, widely reported. But since also widely previously reported, Trump & cronies had overtaken the Kennedy Center, Conan's award puzzled.

#355 helps complete the picture. Thanks.

note:
Comedy in a papered house is like shooting pickles from a barrel.
Surely as flagrantly off the rails as the Trump administration has gone, we can do better than name-calling: "orange a**hole". None the less ... "truth to power ...".

Congrats Conan

Trump to impose 25% tariff on countries that buy oil, gas from Venezuela

By Timothy Gardner and Marianna Parraga / March 24, 202511:26 AM GMT
WASHINGTON/HOUSTON March 24 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that any country that buys oil or gas from Venezuela will pay a 25% tariff on any trades made with the United States.
This "secondary tariff" will take effect on April 2, Trump said in a Truth Social post. Trump is imposing the move because, he said, Venezuela has sent "tens of thousands" of people to the United States who have a "very violent nature."

I've never heard of 3rd party tariff. Is there historic precedent?

Does Trump realize his tariff drops to zero if a trading partner suspends trade until Trump restores equity to the commerce?

Elon Musk attacked democracy defender and superstar court lawyer Marc Elias as “undermining civilization,” taunting him by asking if he suffered “generational trauma.”

Elias’s response was brilliant and worth amplifying:

Mr. Musk,

You recently criticized me and another prominent lawyer fighting for the rule of law and democracy in the United States. I am used to being attacked for my work, particularly on the platform you own and dominate.

I used to be a regular on Twitter, where I amassed over 900,000 followers — all organic except for the right-wing bots who seemed to grow in number. Like many others, I stopped regularly posting on the site because, under your stewardship, it became a hellscape of hate and misinformation.

I also used to buy your cars — first a Model X and then a Model S — back when you spoke optimistically about solving the climate crisis. My family no longer owns any of your cars and never will.

But this is not the reason I am writing. You don’t know me. You have no idea whether I have suffered trauma and if I have, how it has manifested. And it’s none of your business.

However, I will address your last point about generational trauma. I am Jewish, though many on your site simply call me “a jew.” Honestly, it’s often worse than that, but I’m sure you get the point. There was a time when Twitter would remove antisemitic posts, but under your leadership, tolerating the world’s oldest hatred now seems to be a permissible part of your “free speech” agenda.

Like many Jewish families, mine came to America because of trauma. They were fleeing persecution in the Pale of Settlement — the only area in the Russian Empire where Jews were legally allowed to reside. Even there, life was difficult — often traumatic. My family, like others, lived in a shtetl and was poor. Worse, pogroms were common — violent riots in which Jews were beaten, killed and expelled from their villages.

By the time my family fled, life in the Pale had become all but impossible for Jews. Tsar Nicholas II’s government spread anti-Jewish propaganda that encouraged Russians to attack and steal from Jews in their communities. My great-grandfather was fortunate to leave when he did. Those who stayed faced even worse circumstances when Hitler’s army later invaded.

That is the generational trauma I carry. The trauma of being treated as “other” by countrymen you once thought were your friends. The trauma of being scapegoated by authoritarian leaders. The trauma of fleeing while millions of others were systematically murdered. The trauma of watching powerful men treat it all as a joke — or worse.

As an immigrant yourself, you can no doubt sympathize with what it means to leave behind your country, extended family, friends and neighbors to come to the United States. Of course, you probably had more than 86 rubles in your pocket. You probably didn’t ride for nine days in the bottom of a ship or have your surname changed by immigration officials. Here is the ship manifest showing that my family did. Aron, age three, was my grandfather.

As new immigrants, life wasn’t easy. My family lived in cramped housing without hot water. They worked menial jobs — the kind immigrants still perform today.

Some may look down on those immigrants — the ones without fancy degrees — but my family was proud to work and grateful that the United States took them in. They found support within their Jewish community and a political home in the Democratic Party.

I became a lawyer to give back to the country that gave my family a chance. I specialize in representing Democratic campaigns because I believe in the party. I litigate voting rights cases because the right to vote is the bedrock of our democracy. I speak out about free and fair elections because they are under threat.

Now let me address the real crux of your post.

You are very rich and very powerful. You have thrown in with Donald Trump. Whether it is because you think you can control him or because you share his authoritarian vision, I do not know. I do not care.

Together, you and he are dismantling our government, undermining the rule of law and harming the most vulnerable in our society. I am just a lawyer. I do not have your wealth or your platform. I do not control the vast power of the federal government, nor do I have millions of adherents at my disposal to harass and intimidate my opponents. I may even carry generational trauma.

But you need to know this about me. I am the great-grandson of a man who led his family out of the shtetl to a strange land in search of a better life. I am the grandson of the three-year-old boy on that journey. As you know, my English name is Marc, but my Hebrew name is Elhanan (אֶלְחָנָן) — after the great warrior in David’s army who slew a powerful giant.

I will use every tool at my disposal to protect this country from Trump. I will litigate to defend voting rights until there are no cases left to bring. I will speak out against authoritarianism until my last breath.

I will not back down. I will not bow or scrape. I will never obey.

Defiantly,

Marc Elias

Does this mean that Hegseth is a DEI hire? (Or maybe that should be a DUI hire?) #359

(Or maybe that "should" be a DIY fire.)

" Pete Hegseth accidentally sent to-secret war plans tot he editor of the Atlantic. Just dangerously incompetent." #359
There's a layman's analytical axiom: - Never attribute to malice what simple incompetence will explain. -

The Trump administration is a vivid and prolific exception to that standard.

What legitimate official DOD function could U.S. Secretary of Defense Hegseth have been attempting that might reasonably explain this monumental breach of U.S. national security?
"accidentally" #359

BUT !
If Secretary Hegseth authenticates this incompetence explanation, then perhaps Hegseth will also have the integrity to summarily resign.
