If in doubt ....

False friendliness in public by Trump and Vance, followed by behind-the-scenes treachery, would have been much more dangerous to the Ukrainian cause." #239
If Putin can trust Trump, the U.S. $taxpayer cannot.

"We’re witnessing the self-sabotage of the United States.

The Trump administration’s elimination of PEPFAR, the American program to combat HIV infection in Africa, symbolizes the path ahead. President George W. Bush created the program because it would do immense good at low cost, and thereby demonstrate to the world the moral basis of American power. His successors continued it, and Congresses of both parties funded it, because they saw that the program advanced both U.S. values and U.S. interests. Trump and Vance don’t want the United States to be that kind of country anymore." #239
The character, the reputation of hundreds of millions, rendered savage by a single tyrant.

Provinces respond to Trump tariffs by pulling U.S. liquor from shelves

Ont., B.C., N.L. , Que., N.S., P.E.I. and Man. announce measure in retaliation to levies

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has ordered the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) to strip its shelves of American products in response to the U.S. imposing 25 per cent tariffs on most Canadian imports starting Tuesday.

"Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore," Ford said in a statement Sunday morning.

He said American liquor will be removed from LCBO shelves "starting Tuesday."

The premier said the LCBO, as the only wholesaler of alcohol in the province, will also remove American products from its catalogue so that Ontario-based restaurants and retailers can't order or restock U.S. products.

Some reports indicate there are some federal plans to address this shortage.
Will Musk knee-cap those plans?

Some reports indicate there are some federal plans to address this shortage.
Two words: Avian Flu

Of course there is this

And there are umpteen articles on bird flu and whether or not the US (or anyplace) is ready for it

Media Alert: Presidential Address to Joint Session of Congress - Tuesday March 4, 2025 9PM / ET

"We are draining the swamp. It's very simple. And the days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over." President Trump addressing congress 25/03/04

note: Elon Musk attended this Trump media event.
Musk is not merely unelected, but is party to reckless mass firings of U.S. federal employees, some of whom have been urgently sought for rehire when Musk / Trump realized how essential their employment is.
Reports on the success of this rehiring are few, and vague.
“I'm gunna be workin' for you. I'm not gunna have time to go play golf.” GOP pres. cand. Trump “8/2/16”
- question -
How long does it take to drain a swamp? Trump had 4 years to accomplish this. He needs another 4?

One thing to remember - people will find something else to drink while Jack isn't available and many (most?) of them won't go back if/when it's returned to the shelves.

From your post to god's snifter! Bottoms up big G !

Trump has demonstrated his childish, amateurish ignorance, acutely demonstrated in this case. The white house claims Trump tariffs are intended to benefit the U.S. economy
for example by returning manufacturing to the U.S.

But this self-proclaimed "extremely stable genius" doesn't seem to understand international automobile manufacturing involves both technically and contractually complicated cross-border transactions.
This industrial strength presidential ignorance is corroborated not merely by Trump's ill-conceived tariffs, but also Trump's capricious one month exemption.

Major heavy industry simply cannot respond to accommodate such unpredictable vacillations in international trade policy at the pace Trump inflicts them.

Trump's reckless maneuvers push the nation to the brink: cutting Ukraine intel, closing schools, firing thousands, and issuing deadly ultimatums while courts and protests rise in defiance. Pass it on. #resist #GovBriefToday

"Let that sink in!" O.D. #257
It's in!
It's in!

reality / sanity check:
This should not be happening.
Our system is designed to block such excesses, via "checks & balances".

For example, if the entire nation had not violated the Constitution, and prevented Trump from appearing on the ballot for a second term.
No need for speculation. A month into Trump II, we see what destruction Trump is determined to do to:
- U.S. government
- the U.S. $economy
- U.S. military alliances and allegiances

In the news churn / maelstrom, Trump's numerous flagrant excursions include numerous violations of law, including Constitutional law.
Example, Trump has declared the U.S. would abrogate its NATO treaty obligations if other NATO members don't satisfy Trump's personal threshold prerequisites.
U.S. presidents have broad executive authority, but cannot legally unilaterally renegotiate ratified international treaties.

Trump will continue this flagrant lawless executive rampage until the laws he violates are enforced, or his criminal binge is terminated "some other way".
