It's known as "the bankruptcy barrel":

Can't stop laughing (this is for real and not satire)

"The Onion" just bought Infowars

Re #64 - In one sense I don't really care about Infowars but Jones ending up living in a cardboard box under a bridge would be fitting.

The broader issue: The U.S. electorate allowed, empowered Trump, a consummate prolific liar, to bluster his way back to 1600 Penn. Ave.
It's what Skinner called "positive reinforcement", rewarding bad behavior.

Jones seemed to be OK insulting the parents of the slain.
But now that the consequence of such lies result in negative reinforcement to the liar, now Jones (the liar) has a problem with it.

"The remedy for bad speech is good speech." U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis
We're going to need an awful lot of "good speech", along with numerous libelous criminals paying severe penalty to re-level the playing-field.

Evidently in the U.S. Republican party, integrity, honesty, responsible governance have completed the transition from de rigueur to passé, obsolete.

Apparently a Texas judge is investigating the sale so we shall see what happens ....

A federal judge in the United States has rejected satirical website The Onion’s purchase of right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’s Infowars, ruling that a bankruptcy auction did not result in the best possible bids.
In a decision late on Tuesday, US Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez rejected Jones’s claims that the auction was plagued by “collusion”.
Lopez said he did not want another auction and left it up to the trustee who oversaw the auction to determine the next steps.

Supreme Court rejects Alex Jones’ appeal of $1.4 billion defamation judgment in Sandy Hook shooting

By MARK SHERMAN

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an appeal from conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and left in place the $1.4 billion judgment against him over his description of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting as a hoax staged by crisis actors.

The Infowars host had argued that a judge was wrong to find him liable for defamation and infliction of emotional distress without holding a trial on the merits of allegations lodged by relatives of victims of the shooting, which killed 20 first graders and six educators in Newtown, Connecticut.

The justices did not comment on their order, which they issued without even asking the families of the Sandy Hook victims to respond to Jones’ appeal. An FBI agent who responded to the shooting also sued.

Jones filed for bankruptcy in late 2022, and his lawyers told the justices that the “plaintiffs have no possible hope of collecting” the entire judgment.

He is separately appealing a $49 million judgment in a similar defamation lawsuit in Texas after he failed to turn over documents sought by the parents of another Sandy Hook victim.

In the Connecticut case, the judge issued a rare default ruling against Jones and his company in late 2021 because of what she called ....
