Psychologist Joy Browne called suicide "a long term solution to a short-term problem".
In some cases so it may seem Dr. Browne.
I suspect it's a mistake to be dismissive of any adversity that would drive a rational-minded person to believe death is better than life.
If they think that, they think that for a reason.
It may be insensible to attempt to address that in the abstract. But as a fundamental principle a valid perception may be falsely leveraged to justify such extreme measure.
It's a rhetorical oversimplification, but in coarse terms a few relatively simple, and potentially easily developed coping skills may transform the conclusion.
