I think that every American knows that when they vote in a presidential election for "J Smith" their vote doesnt really count (if it did Trump would not have been elected) what counts is the votes of the "(EC) "electors"

Not merely flattering but sincerely flattering. If you'll pardon the Bushism (a president that lost the vote), you may misoverestimate us.
Perhaps a majority of Americans that post in these politics / current events venues do understand the rudiments of the EC. Wouldn't surprise me if most U.S. citizens don't. Many (embarrassingly many) may think the EC is where people go to become electricians.
I'm not kiddin', entirely.
