But the more likely consequence of crippling the standards that molded our success is to jeopardize that success.

This degradation of higher education must not be considered out of context.
In our 3rd millennium, our prospective adversaries have not abandoned the perpetual race of military arms.
Instead the race is now paralleled by cyber-intrigue that has reached knife to the jugular levels.

In our rudimentary control over our potential adversaries, the carrot wields greater power than the stick. BUT !
we can consider our own sovereignty intact, despite how severely we have undermined it by for example ceding key technologies such as Silicon chip manufacturing to Asia.

We are assiduously assembling an inescapable trap for ourselves.
The point of no return may not yet be clearly marked on our calendars. BUT !

the trend is unmistakable. The outcome, if the trend continues, inevitable.
