Fox to simulcast debate on multiple platforms

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance are set to take the stage for a debate on Tuesday, likely the only debate between the vice presidential candidates as the election enters its final stretch.
The vice presidential debate is being hosted by "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell and "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan, taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. ET. CBS News will host the debate, and coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET.

While many U.S. presidential elections are regarded as consequential, this 2024 race may be particularly so, as indicated by the unusual step of some stalwart Republicans endorsing the Democrat Harris / Walz team.

Senator Vance has demonstrated himself to be an articulate advocate, and may exercise additional advantage in already having forfeited his own credibility, integrity with conspicuous and ultimately ridiculous lies.

Thus in addition to political consequence, Tuesday night's prime-time debate may also offer some entertainment value.

Vance Confident, Walz Uneven in Debate Heavy on Policy source WSJ

Vance might have had a clear victory by standard of style, looked calmer than Walz persistent facial expression of alarm. The occasion warrants the expression, but scoring for style it promotes the false impression Walz is a loser, or argues the weaker position.
Vance lowered his own style point score by forcing the one mic mute of the evening.

Will this debate significantly affect the election outcome?

Vance and Walz stick to policy in polite VP debate - but who won?

The two men spent much more time attacking the other's running mate than each other during 90-plus minutes on the CBS News stage in New York.
Walz had a shaky start but hit his stride when talking about abortion and the Capitol riot.
But the even-tempered, policy-focused debate, with few political body blows, probably served Vance - a polished public speaker - best in the end.
