I was raised in the lower Hudson River Valley. We had access to a private dock, and a grand view of the river for miles. It became a yearly personal tradition to watch the fireworks displayed in several towns within sight of the dock. BUT !!
I was in my teens before I realized the connection between (mostly: S2 #2) harmless display fireworks, and the munitions of the Revolutionary War they suggested.
New millennium:
Blasting explosives into the sky with mortars is sooooo previous millennium. We got drones now!
Thomas Jefferson wrote the rough draft of the DOI; John Adams and Ben Franklin were the editors.
Jefferson originally wrote:
"We hold these truths to be sacred and undeniable ..." Jefferson
Franklin expresses his reservation about that phrasing to Jefferson. Franklin explained; we're founding a new country. It's not based on assertions of religion. It's based on assertions of reason. We should reflect that religious tolerance in this writing.

When is the real Independence Day: July 2 or July 4?
There’s no doubt the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence in July 1776. But which date has the legitimate claim on Independence Day: July 2 or July 4?
Officially, the Continental Congress declared its freedom from Great Britain on July 2, 1776, when it voted to approve a resolution submitted by delegate Richard Henry Lee of Virginia, declaring “That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.”
After voting on independence on July 2, the Continental Congress then needed to draft a document explaining the move to the public. It had been proposed in draft form by the Committee of Five (John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson) and it took two days for the Congress to agree on the edits.
Once the Congress approved the actual Declaration of Independence document on July 4, it ordered that it be sent to a printer ...

If we apply the - we're not independent until we get the word out ... -
standard for national sovereignty, then shouldn't the standard for murder be:
the murderer hasn't committed murder until after the corpse stands up and corroborates the fact, not only has the attack occurred & the crime been committed, but the corpse is in fact dead.
By questioning the validity, the legitimacy of the Independence resolution was approved by vote on July 2. To question the legitimacy of July 2 as Independence Day is to deny the authority of Continental Congress.
Bad idea, for that in turn raises questions about U.S. sovereignty.
