PROPAGANDA pierre #15

His X ACCT. June 20, 2025: 8:14am

Claim:

“Liberals lowered penalties on gun criminals and now we are paying the price… We must bring mandatory jail time, scan shipping containers for smuggled arms, and bring safety back to our streets.”

🧠
The Facts Say Otherwise:

1. Bill C-5 did not weaken laws on gun violence

Poilievre falsely suggests that Liberal reforms caused a surge in gun crime.

Bill C-5 removed select mandatory minimums for non-violent offenses.

It preserved strong penalties for violent firearm crimes like robbery with a firearm, discharge with intent, or firearm trafficking.

No part of the bill legalized or “softened” armed home invasions.

Judges still hand down long prison sentences in serious cases.

“Bill C-5 does not weaken laws against serious gun crime. It restores balance, discretion, and proportionality.”

David Lametti, former Justice Minister, June 2022

2. Crime data does not support Poilievre’s theory

There is no national spike in gun violence linked to Bill C-5.

Statistics Canada reports a small decline in firearm-related violent crime in 2023.

Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Halifax each saw drops in gang-linked shootings.

No police agency has blamed Bill C-5 for any uptick in gun crime.

Crime remains highly localized and driven by organized networks.

3. The real problem is smuggling: not sentencing

Over 80 percent of handguns used in crimes in Canada are trafficked from the U.S.

These weapons arrive hidden in vehicles, suitcases, or commercial loads.

Shipping containers are one possible route, but they are rarely used for illegal firearms.

CBSA confirms that the majority of seizures happen at road crossings, not seaports.

Scanning every shipping container is not feasible without massive delays or cost.

Canada processes over 1.6 million containers per year at major ports.

Targeted, intelligence-led inspections are more effective than blanket scanning.

4. Mandatory minimums do not stop gun violence

There is no evidence that longer sentences prevent armed crime.

The Department of Justice, the Supreme Court, and independent experts all agree.

Mandatory minimums increase racial disparities, force trials, and clog courts.

They do not stop people from acquiring illegal weapons or joining gangs.

Gun violence prevention comes from community action and policing — not slogans.

“Mandatory minimums produce injustice without improving safety.”

Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, SCC ruling in R. v. Nur, 2015

✅
What Actually Improves Safety?

• Increased CBSA funding for border crackdowns

• Intelligence-led shipping container screening

• Police task forces on gun smuggling routes

• Youth violence intervention programs

• Mental health access in vulnerable communities

• Faster trials for repeat violent offenders

Final Word:

Poilievre’s post recycles fear to push failed ideas.

There is no link between Bill C-5 and armed home invasions.

Smuggled U.S. guns fuel violence, not Canadian judges.

Real safety comes from smart law enforcement and social investment not political spin.

The Danielle Smith Scandal Explained Clearly

What is it about?

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is under fire over a massive health-care procurement scandal involving private contracts, insider connections, a whistleblower lawsuit, an RCMP investigation, and a former judge now reviewing the case.

📆

• March 2025 – RCMP launches criminal investigation into AHS contracts
• March 13, 2025 – Judge Raymond Wyant is appointed to lead a third-party review
• May 2025 – Peter Guthrie expelled from UCP caucus after whistleblowing
• June 2025 – Wyant’s report delayed to September
• June 21, 2025 – Scandal still growing, with pressure for a full public inquiry

2. Marshall Smith – Chief of Staff. Allegedly lived in a home owned by family of Sam Mraiche. Under scrutiny for ties to contracts.
3. Sam Mraiche – Business owner. His company MHCare received major AHS contracts. Close family ties to Smith’s office.
4. Athana Mentzelopoulos – Fired AHS CEO. Claims she was terminated for exposing contract irregularities. Filed a $1.7M lawsuit.

7. Raymond Wyant – Retired Manitoba judge. Leading the independent review into AHS procurement.
8. RCMP and Auditor General – Conducting formal investigations into contract processes.

🧾
What Are the Allegations?
• Mentzelopoulos claims she uncovered inflated contracts totaling over $600 million to private clinics like MHCare and Alberta Surgical Group
• Says she was fired for trying to protect taxpayer money
• Documents and timelines suggest Marshall Smith had close personal ties to beneficiaries of those contracts
• Government says her firing was performance-related, not retaliation
• NDP and critics claim this is a clear conflict of interest and demands a full public inquiry

🧑‍⚖️
Who is Judge Raymond Wyant?
• Retired Chief Judge of Manitoba’s Provincial Court
• Appointed March 13, 2025, to lead a third-party review of AHS procurement
• Has access to internal government documents and witnesses
• But: He cannot subpoena testimony or compel evidence under oath
• Quote from NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi: “The strict terms of this review prevent Judge Wyant from getting to the bottom of the CorruptCare scandal”

🗣️
Quotes That Matter
• Danielle Smith: “I had no role in contract decisions. These are troubling accusations.”
• Peter Guthrie: “The Premier and Health Minister misled cabinet and the public.”
• Athana Mentzelopoulos: “I was terminated for trying to stop fraud and protect taxpayers.”

“And So Begins The Age of Carney…”

By Steve Ward
🇨🇦

As the first heat wave of summer hits Ontario, and with a week to go until Canada Day, Prime Minister Carney’s popularity continues to grow. Canadians largely seem to approve of the many concrete actions he has taken to steer us through an uncertain present. With each step along the way, it has been readily apparent that our highly intelligent and skilled new Prime Minister has a coherent and effective strategic master game plan in mind.

Indeed, Carney arrived on the political scene with a sense of urgency which is necessary to ensure Canada is well-positioned to enjoy a sovereign, stable, prosperous and secure future built upon major projects, One Canadian Economy, national unity, new trade relationships and emergent security agreements with new partners. All while keeping Trump at arms length and easily out-maneuvering him at .....

If you aren't yet convinced of the deep relationship of Canada's Conservative party with US Republicans, this is an eyeopening article in the New Yok Times published today about Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith. While Poilievre attempts to downplay their connection, Danielle is all in. Consider who has the most to lose here, then ask yourself if they might downplay their connection if it turns off voters.

I've highlighted some of the more concerning passages, but it's a must read.

Buffalo N.Y. News Article about Canadians. Nice bit of info that a lot of us don't even know. An article posted in the Buffalo News by Gerry Boley.

Misconceptions in the United States about Canada are quite common. They include: there is always snow in Canada; Canadians are boring, socialists and pacifists; their border is porous and allowed the Sept. 11 terrorists through; or, as the U.S. Ottawa embassy staff suggested to Washington, the country suffers from an inferiority complex. This is a great time to clarify some of these misconceptions and better appreciate a neighbour that the United States at times takes for granted.

With the exception of the occasional glacier, skiing in Canada in the summer just isn't happening. Frigid northern winters, however, have shaped the tough, fun-loving Canadian character. When it is 30-below, the Canucks get their sticks, shovel off the local pond and have a game of shinny hockey.

The harsh winters have also shaped .....

I tell you all, the maple MAGA’s are really trying it. They did not succeed in trying to overthrow a democratically elected government with the trucker convoy which PP supported,
The RCMP say they have charged three men with facilitating a terrorist activity in a plot to create an “anti-government militia” in Quebec and a fourth with multiple explosives and firearms charges.

Thanks to the intelligence folks for keeping Canada safe

Remember PP was supporting the convoy and even supplied them with food

To all those who knee jerked their way into a "Carney caved" meltdown, take a damn breath. I suggest you take time to learn what "long game", "bigger picture US/Canada agreement", "global negotiations", "how to negotiate with a raving lunatic/alleged leader of the free world", and "patience" mean. Good God, it's been three minutes. Give the Harvard/Oxford educated, bank governor and economist a chance to think/strategize. I suspect those doing all the hollerin' lack these credentials.

Think about what we're up against. The White House publicly announced Canada caved which made me laugh out loud. It's about power, not lawful, fair, adult negotiations. We're dealing with a power crazed authoritarian who wants this country to be an American state. Trump is an idiot who actually thinks we apply a 400% tariff on dairy. We've NEVER applied this because we didn't have to (quotas). Do you actually believe normal rules apply? Carney knows this.

Come back to me a year from now and let's have this discussion again, shall we?

This is an excellent column, not least because the author deals specifically with some of the things that people think Mr. Carney "should" be doing in his handling of the erratic, vengeful demagogue south of the border.

"Trump’s latest round of blustering is another attempt to negotiate in public by getting people upset." Direct quote from the article, and I think we can all agree about its accuracy.

Trump’s Tariff Bluster Returns

By Steve Ward
🇨🇦

Emboldened by the legislative success of the passage of his horrific “Big, Beautiful Bill,” Trump has now once again changed his focus to tariffs. He is threatening to impose 35% tariffs accross the board on Canadian imports to take effect on August 1st. This would take the form of a 10% increase on goods already being tariffed at 25%. In addition, the new tariff won’t impact products that are in compliance with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico free trade agreement, known as CUSMA. Trump also offered a ridiculous non-option to avoid new tariffs if “Canada, or companies within your country, decide to manufacture product within the United States.” Sometimes Trump is even more ludicrous than usual. He communicated the 35% tariff threat to Prime Minister Carney via a letter which he also posted on social media.

Trump’s latest round of blustering is another attempt to ...

Ms. Smith also tends to forget the involved and convoluted process of separation built into the Charter. Which is especially applicable to a province boxed in on three sides by the rest of Canada. And that doesn't even touch on the initial step of negotiating with Alberta's indigenous/first nations people for permission to separate.

Alberta feels like America’s northern cousin. The one with a chip on its shoulder.

Let’s go back to something I say often: I live in Alberta. I raised my children here. I’ll likely die here. And I don’t say that with resignation, I say it with a weird mix of gratitude and grief.

This is a province gifted, yes, gifted, with oil and gas riches that changed its destiny. But Alberta today doesn’t act like a province that hit the resource jackpot. It acts like the bratty kid who inherited a trust fund and now blames everyone else for his lack of character.

So let’s rewind the tape. Alberta became it's own province in ....
