Election 2026

Newly surfaced court records from 1978 are backing up Amy Acton's account of her childhood, days after a campaign ad accused her of lying about it. The ad, from Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign, features Acton's estranged mother, Donna Arthur, calling her daughter a liar and saying her story of growing up in a tent was invented. Acton, now the Democratic nominee for Ohio governor, was removed from her mother's custody at age 12 and says she has had no contact with her since.

The documents show a grand jury indicted Acton's stepfather, Cledith Arthur, in 1978 on a rape charge involving sexual conduct with her while she was under 13. He failed to appear in court and became a fugitive. A judge ordered an arrest warrant in October 1978, another was issued in 1981, and authorities were still looking for him years after that. He was never arrested again and never stood trial. He died in 2004. Her brother, Phil Stearns, has publicly described the abuse both siblings endured. Independent fact checks have rated the ad false, while Ramaswamy has taken responsibility for it and defended it.

Takes a lot for the GOP and the Dems to agree on something

Decades ago I encountered a pseudo-con definition of the group they tried to elevate themselves by deriding: "liberals".

- A liberal is a person who will give you the shirt,
off someone else's back. -

Trump seems extremely generous with the People's $money.

Those that consider themselves too smart for politics are destined to be ruled by those dumber than they are.

I remember people telling me that they weren't going to vote because while they hated Trump they didn't like Hillary. I told that whether they voted or not, one of them would be the next President so they should hold their nose and vote for whichever they found the least unpleasant. Didn't work.

That's what I did.
"Didn't work." S2 #50
I KNOW !

btw - I've never been much of a Hillary fan.
But I suspect she'd have been at least an average president. Possibly better than that.
Surely better than the guy she beat (Hillary won the popular vote).

Of the U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), former Speaker Newton Gingrich (R-GA) said: "She's serious, she's hard working, she is a first rate professional."

Supplementing that, (then) current RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman said: "Senator Clinton is smart, uh, she's effective, uh ... very hard working."

At very least, she's got a résumé:
- First Lady of Arkansas
- First Lady of the United States
- Junior U.S. Senator from NY
- Secretary of State

Unfortunately Hillary was carrying too much baggage held over from Bill's "shenanigans". And her public persona wasn't that of a pleasant person. You can add to that the fact that she ran a terrible campaign.

And if that wasn't enough the press was so sure that she was going to win by a landslide that a lot of people simply decided that there was no need to hold their noses when they voted. After all she was going to win whether they voted or not so why bother?

The following is a shameless sear quibble. My apology in advance.
"Unfortunately Hillary was carrying too much baggage held over from Bill's "shenanigans"." S2 #52
You may not be the first to author such perspective. I've never read a vividly defined clarification w/ precise detail.
I can't cite an example. But she addressed issues. Right?
AND she knew enough from previous Clinton campaigns: "It's the economy, stupid."

"And her public persona wasn't that of a pleasant person." S2 #52
!?
Worse than Trump ?! How is that frick
in possible?

"You can add to that the fact that she ran a terrible campaign." S2 #52
I've read that before too.
Alright. So she lacks the persuasive charisma of her hubby.
I suppose I'm in a minuscule minority. I want a skillful conservative technician. SURELY not a bloated braggart. I doubt President Hillary would have demolished the East Wing OR
started a War against Iran.

You got me there S2.

Trump inexplicably decides to riff about Jeffrey Epstein in Ohio while stumping for midterms

Rachel Dobkin Wed, October 28, 2026 at 10:32 PM GMT-5
President Donald Trump went on an eyebrow-raising riff about Jeffrey Epstein while stumping for Republicans in Ohio ahead of Tuesday midterm elections.

Trump remained tight-lipped about the late convicted sex offender and wealthy financier as his administration faced backlash last year over its handling of government files relating to its federal sex trafficking case against Epstein. The heat on Trump was turned up when The Wall Street Journal released an article in July 2025 about a bawdy birthday letter Trump reportedly wrote to Epstein in 2003, that read: "May every day be another wonderful secret."
The president started off his rally in Chillicothe gushing over Republican Senator Jon Husted's body, which has become an odd common occurrence in the lead-up to the election.

Then he was interrupted by a heckler who shouted about Epstein and Trump's alleged connections.
"I threw Epstein out of a club like 20 years ago because I thought he was a wackjob," Trump said to cheers from the crowd. "That was a great thing I did; I must tell you."

Trump, who was never formally accused of any wrongdoing relating to Epstein's crimes, added that he was "totally exonerated from him."
The president called protesters who have routinely disrupted his cross-country rallies this month, "sick, weak people."
Instead of making headlines over his political platform, the former college football star gained national attention over his rear, specifically Trump's fascination with it.

says up 'air - "Trump, who was never formally accused of any wrongdoing relating to Epstein's crimes, added that he was "totally exonerated from him.""

Real cool that the only elections we'll ever have for the rest of time is either the right winning, or the right claiming that they lost because the election was stolen.

I don't recall Putin ever whining about that, even though his elections are stolen.

This Is the Proof Nothing Can Save Doomed Trump Now: Author

Wed, October 28, 2026 at 7:05 PM GMT-5
President Donald Trump has officially gone beyond the pale, author Jennifer Welch says.
The host of the I've Had It podcast tells The Daily Beast Podcast that Trump's consistent string of unhinged behavior during his countrywide midterms panic tour shows he has really gone off the deep end.
"His closing message—it's a really bizarre thing to watch," Welch tells host Joanna Coles. "It's become so normal to us that oftentimes, I have to step back and say, 'This is the President of the United States. This is unacceptable.'"

The Not Today, Fascists author explained that Trump's recent spree of uttering "strange noises," his inability to remember people's names, and his weird fascination with male bodies are indicative of his downfall.
