‘People are pissed off’: anger at the elite and the establishment is fueling this year’s midterms

Coming midterm elections are starting to be framed not as right versus left but instead the ‘well-fed versus the fed-up’

Brian Leeland, a 79-year-old Democratic voter in Detroit, had enough. Frustrated by the way the US media covers this febrile political era, from Donald Trump’s Washington to political campaigns across the country, he contacted the Guardian.

“Your decision to frame the race here as a simple progressive versus establishment choice is overly simplistic verging on lazy,” he wrote to this reporter, after our coverage of progressive Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign in the Democratic US Senate primary in Michigan. “As an electorate, we are not binary for the convenience of the media.”

His was a complaint I heard often as I traveled across the midwest to cover a host of contested Democratic primaries. So I called him up.

Leeland’s list of frustrations is long: grifters, liars, the two-party system, money influencing elections, the US’s standing in the world, the growing national debt and a fixation on cultural issues, not just the larger problems that plague the country.

He is one of many angry voters whose rage is reshaping American politics. It could decide the .....

We're supposed to think Trump's drunken thug Hegseth has suddenly become ethical?

Hegseth says national security, military cyber forces will guard US election systems during midterms

By JONATHAN J. COOPER Updated 7:19 PM GMT-5, September 28, 2026

The U.S. National Security Agency and other military intelligence and cybersecurity forces will guard election systems during the November midterms, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Monday.

Military cybersecurity experts have routinely helped monitor systems and deter potential hackers since election equipment was designated “ critical infrastructure ” in 2017.
But Hegseth’s announcement comes after President Donald Trump gutted the civilian agency specifically created to safeguard election infrastructure, a division of the Department of Homeland Security called the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. That agency last week released an election infrastructure security plan that lays out potential threats to election systems and lists services it would offer to election officials to protect the vote.
Both announcements come just weeks before Election Day on Nov. 3 and with early voting already underway. The short timeline “suggests this is just theater,” said David Becker, a former U.S. Justice Department attorney who leads the nonprofit Center for Election Innovation & Research.

“If the administration was serious about assisting state and local election officials, they shouldn’t have dismantled all of the federal government’s election cybersecurity capacity and fired all their experts in early 2025,” he said.
Though cybersecurity assistance from the NSA and U.S. Cyber Command is routine, many elections experts, civil rights groups and Democratic election officials are on guard for signs of meddling in voting or ballot counting by the Trump administration. The president continues to push false claims that elections are rife with fraud while trying to interfere with longstanding election procedures.

Meanwhile the Dems. have hoped to replace Senator Collins [R-ME] with a Democrat.

Maine Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson, a fifth-generation logger who has touted his working-class bonafides on the campaign trail, is facing backlash from both sides of the aisle over a viral ad that critics are labeling as tone-deaf pandering.
"If Republicans spend $46 million on these TV ads, who’s gunna be convinced by that?" Jackson is asked in the ad as he sips a boba tea.

Senator Collins has long since demonstrated herself a political survivor.
It looks like she may keep her seat.

"alarm bell" Slotkin
The clanging of the alarm bell is a distraction.

What demands our ACTION:
The U.S. at stalemate-War in the Middle East
Murder in international water
Secretary Hegseth dismantling the U.S. military brain-trust
$inflation raising home heating fuel prices as we approach Winter home heating season.

Hear the crickets chirping?
That's the Democrats, stumbling about blindfolded
apparently not even groping for a coherent party message about:
- the problems the Republicans have caused, &
- what the Democrats will do about it -IF- the electorate returns them to power this November.

The Democrats may not be making a very persuasive sales pitch.
But the Republicans have given us more than enough warning.

You want two more years of THIS ?!

Trump’s $5,000 dividend pledge flips from ‘every U.S. Citizen’ back to adults overnight. Would your family get any cash?

On October 2nd President Trump said: "$5,000 Trump Dividend will be distributed to every U.S. Citizen if, and when, the Republicans win the Midterm Elections!"

Be a hero.
Rescue your nation.
Vote Democrat.

Nothing more needs to be said. They're literally using trans people as a scapegoat to stir up the hate and try to get votes.

Message to this November's voters:

Our cost of living is influenced by the $cost of diesel fuel.
When the cost of diesel doubles, the cost of the what is trucked to market also increases.

This needless price elevation can be brief, a few multiples of the war that caused it.
But President Trump has put his unpopular war on hold, knowing if he continues to disgrace himself publicly,
the scorn he has earned will be reflected by the vote outcome. Trump doesn't dare risk that.
To the contrary Trump has offered each of us $5,000.oo if Trump keeps his Republican majorities.
Anyone that believes they'll actually receive a $5k check from Trump is not competent to vote.
These diesel woes of Trump's will be ours for longer than the rest of Trump's 2nd term. Why?

Before Trump's 2nd term the U.S. had military alliance and trade relationships reinforced over decades, generations, centuries.
Trump arrogantly cut them out of the decision process when he attacked Iran, inflicting the consequence on them, but without their consultation.

If instead Trump had benefited from their cooperation,
Trump might have been able to avoid teaching Iran that it has a stranglehold on Earth's economy. Trump's arrogant unilateral belligerence has taught
Iran is has the capacity to throttle or close Hormuz Strait shipping. Trump will soon be gone. Iran will long remain.

Those living with little if any disposable income may be harmed the most by Trump's numerous broken campaign promises.
How many of them voted for Trump in 2024?
Trump has fueled $inflation, the fed increased our interest rate.
Trump insists Iran must never have a nuclear weapon. But the U.S. already arranged that in Obama's JCPOA with Britain, France, Germany, China, Russia, & Iran.
Trump withdrew the U.S. from JCPOA permanently undermining his future capacity to make a formal international agreement with Iran.
Iran plausibly reasons: if the U.S. broke that agreement, what will prevent the U.S. from breaking the next agreement as well ?

Current status October 12, Columbus Day 2026:
- agreements with Iran on nuclear weapons have been undermined.
- Trump's Iran War which he has assured us many times is nearly over, languishes with no resolution in sight.
- And Trump has provided Iran with a weapon which may be even more useful to Iran than a nuclear weapon, unprecedented geo-financial power, control of shipping through the strait.
Trump gave that to them, and for perpetuity Trump gave the consequences to the world, to US.

Mr. & Ms. Voter: You want more of this? Years more?
When you vote in this November's election, please cast your ballot for your own benefit, for the benefit of your People, your nation, for humanity.
A vote for a Republican is an endorsement of these destructive outcomes.
Think!
Vote!
Prosper!
