In centuries past adjacent houses were built with large front porches.
In the morning the house retained some of the previous overnight's chill, for Summertime comfort.
But by 6PM it was often cooler outdoors, so the home's residents would migrate to the comfort of the open air front porch.
There family members could interact with one another, as well as the nothing-to-say protocol of greeting passersby:
Good evening Mr. pH.
Good evening Mrs. Litmus ...
BUT !
Then air conditioning proliferated, ending the community tradition of interacting with neighbors that way.
BUT !
Humans are social animals.
And so our HVAC isolation has been circumvented, with predictable results. Some may interact more on smartphone than in person.
