Union Pacific reported what it claimed was a 160% increase since December 2020 in thefts along the railroad tracks in L.A. County. The railroad didn’t release specific data on what was stolen or the value of what was lost but it said the increase in crime cost the company at least $5 million last year.


Union Pacific is deploying more drones, has brought in extra security and enlisted the Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to combat the thefts, Guerrero said."

SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Police in San Ramon, California said Wednesday at least seven suspects were arrested after a group of nearly 25 people ransacked a jewelry store in broad daylight Monday afternoon, stealing an estimated $1 million worth of merchandise.
The robbery happened at Heller Jewelers. According to police, the suspects, armed with at least three guns, stormed the store and smashed display cases with crowbars and pickaxes and grabbing whatever jewelry they could.

LAPD Street Takeover Crackdown Detains Hundreds​

LOS ANGELES, CA – September 5, 2026 (STL.News) A massive law enforcement operation targeting an illegal street takeover in the Los Angeles area early Saturday reportedly resulted in hundreds of people being detained and scores of vehicles being targeted for towing, marking an unusually large response to the persistent problem of illegal street racing and intersection takeovers.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued a tactical alert as officers responded to a large gathering near South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard, an intersection along the border of Los Angeles’ Harbor Gateway area and West Rancho Dominguez.
An LAPD spokesperson said officers began receiving calls concerning the takeover at approximately 3:37 a.m. Saturday, according to reports. Preliminary accounts described a substantial police response involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
