By the numbers this "gift" is totaled. A damaged automobile is considered "totaled", a collective total loss, when cost of repair exceeds book value.
Credible estimates indicate the cost of preparing this aircraft so that it is both safe and secure, exceeds its value, and thus is totaled, before they toss trump the keys.

The difference of this white elephant when the kings of Siam wished to ruin an offending courtier, they extended their sabotage, their burden as a sacred gift.
But President Midas seems to have been more receptive. After all: the aircraft may require hundreds of $millions, $BUT, not Trump's $millions.

Fact is, retrofitting this white elephant (sorry airplane) going to take more time and cost more money than simply ordering a new one from the factory. Of course that wouldn't let Trump take possession of the plane at the end of his term in office.

Retrofitting it is going to require completely disassembling it and replacing every last bit of wiring and every bit of electronics in the plane. And even then there is no way to be absolutely certain that there isn't some sort of listening device remaining. Or some sort of booby trap built into some strut or whatever.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has found a new money pot to fund President Trump’s Qatari-backed Air Force One project.
The Pentagon has transferred $934 million from the “Sentinel,” a $77.7 billion project dedicated to modernizing the U.S.’ ground-based nuclear missiles, to fund a classified project, according to The New York Times, and Air Force officials said at least some of the funds will go toward renovating a Qatari-funded Boeing 747-8 to Trump’s liking.
Sentinel began in 2020, and delays have pushed the project’s cost to more than $125 billion. A Pentagon estimate last year found the project’s cost could grow to $160 billion.

This is going to be a blast - how could anyone turn down an offer to go on this ride
