The war in Iran (or whose war is it anyways?)

"The problem with [manifesting any of the 7 deadly sins] comes from degree.
A little bit can be understood as just being human.
But the problem comes when one shows a total indifference to the suffering of others, like murdering those people in the fastboats near Venezuela." R5 #280
I think that's a very important point.
Pride in workmanship for example, or a well deserved reputation for being a benefit to the community, not sure that's a sin at all, let alone a "deadly" sin.

"Gluttony" is intrinsically excessive. We all eat, but not all eat to corpulence.

As you know R5, I'm not all that enthusiastic about the supernatural guy in the sky stuff.
But I think despite obvious shortcomings, this basic guidance at least seems to me to be well-intended.

Trump says U.S. will seize Iran's Kharg Island as war reignites

Frank Andrews / Thu, June 11, 2026 at 11:53 AM GMT-5
What to know about the Iran war today president Trump said Thursday that the U.S. would launch "very hard" new strikes on Iran within hours and seize vital Iranian oil infrastructure, including Kharg Island, "in the not too distant future." He later told Fox News he wasn't sure "America has the appetite" for what he'd like to do.

Siezing land is a totally illegal act.

Trump has already seized the Gulf of Mexico semantically, now ostensibly "the Gulf of America". :cautious:

Whether we Kharg or not, will we Cuba, or Canada, or Greenland? Allowing this maniac back into the white house was an devastating blunder. The east wing is gone.

Odd how ethics could go out the window so quickly.
Of course it could be everyone knew Vietnam, Iraq, etc., were all attempted land grabs all along?

I may not have been opposed to the U.S. War in Vietnam from the start, but from the first I learned of it.

I never got the impression it was a U.S. land grab, or a French land grab for that matter.
Israel nibbles away at Palestine by occupation, habitation.

Cabrini–Green homes were in Chicago, not Chau Doc.

Nope. "Better dead than red." The domino theory. The U.S. was afraid of global communist conquest.

Its my opinion Russia was always fake.
The anti-Bolshevik propaganda started decades before the Russian revolution even, and it seems to me that Germany and Russia conspired to being Lenin into the revolution.
It seems to me he was fake.
Not only because he did not produce the democracy that is essential to actual communism, but because he had all the real communists executed.

So it seems similar to ISIS to me.
ISIS is not Islamic extremists, but secular Sunni we released from our POW camps.
They all suddenly got new Toyota trucks.
But not a single Moslem cleric backs ISIS.
And ISIS has done things very much prohibited by Islam, such as burning that Jordanian pilot.

Seems a little like fence straddling here R5. ... self-determination ...

Me too !

The Cold War was a real money maker.
It was going strong before WWII, then suddenly in WWII we are allies with Russia, and then as soon as Germany was no longer an issue, we are back being deadly enemies of Russia.
Which really does not make any sense, considering that Russia has never invaded anyone, and the US and Russia have zero territorial conflicts.

" Russia has never invaded anyone " R5 #292
I don't know any acknowledged expert that corroborates that.

What happened in February 2022

As people were sleeping, Russian troops and tanks rolled into Ukraine and missiles poured down in what US military analysts called the largest military operation in Europe since World War II. The attack followed weeks of Russian manoeuvres that included staging a large-scale military exercise along Russia’s border with Ukraine that the US estimated to include 190,000 Russian soldiers.

Blaming this on Ukraine is delusional.

I do not think so.
I think the Polish invasion of the Ukraine in 1600 was criminal, and the defeated Polish likely should have been deported in 1700.
The only reason Polish are the majority in the Ukraine is because the Russians were being nice to them.

But the Polish military were criminal in 2014.
They murdered, imprisoned, or expelled the government legally elected in 2012, and went on a racist rampage.
They violated treaties, tried to block Russian use of Sevastopol, murdered over 30k ethnic Russian natives, and tried to destroy Russia by trying to join NATO and the EU.

Russia had waited 8 years of negotiations before it was forced to invade in 2022 due to the Ukraine formally cutting off all further nagotiations.
Once we had fully armed the Ukraine, clearly it was the Ukraine who deliberately started the armed conflict.
