Mar-a-Lago attendees tried to walk out of Trump’s speech early — but security forced them to stay

Video shows "people leaving in the middle of it ― until they were blocked from departing"

On Wednesday, the Huffington Post reported that attendees to former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago speech announcing his third consecutive run for president were not allowed to leave the country club until he was finished speaking — and that apparently, some attendees appeared to wish to do so.

"Donald Trump announced his latest bid for the White House to a practically captive audience at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Tuesday night," reported Ed Mazza. "ABC's Jonathan Karl called the speech 'incredibly low energy' and said he saw people leaving in the middle of it ― until they were blocked from departing."

Further, according to ...

When Oprah does a live audience show she may apply the same standard.

What I don't know is:
- Is this a change for Trump audiences? In prior appearances were attendees required to stay to the end, but it wasn't reported?

In either case Trump's looking more and more like an albatross around the elephant's neck. And in that context principled Republicans like Liz Cheney & Mitt Romney are starting to look like leaders.
"The single greatest threat to our republic is a president who would put his own self-interest above the Constitution, above the national interest. We've had a situation where President Trump claimed for months that the election was stolen and then apparently set about to do everything he could to steal it himself and that ended up in an attack on the capitol. 5 people killed that day." Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) speaking on FNS Superbowl Sunday 21/02/07

"... populism is always pandering,
and pandering is always the reverse of leadership." George Will

Republicans formed a stampede to follow Trump, and Trump ran them off a cliff. How many admirable, principled Republicans are left to admire, to support?

It's great that Trump and DeSantis are taking shots at each other, we can sit back and watch them destroy each other and hopefully the party - the worry is that they will get behind whoever wins in a primary. Even so, Trump should lose comfortably against Biden in 2024. I am worried that DeSantis could win [against Biden] given he does have high polling ratings - so that is a problem if he wins.

In any case,, it's good to see that theyr'e resorting to ever more desperate tactics to keep the MAGA sheep trapped in the pen. :D

Bulwer Lytton said the pen is mightier than the sword. ;)

s2 #4,
I'll be curious to see if Trump can win any State in the 2024 primaries. I was dismally WRONG about Trump before. BUT !! Since the insurrection Trump's paper thin margin may have evaporated. I have a vague, unsubstantiated suspicion Trump will either drop out, or be shoved aside.

Romney / Ryan ran against Obama / Biden.
Unless a better Republican ticket shows up, I'd consider voting for that one in 2024.

At this point DeSantis seems to be one of the favorites for the GOP nomination. Haven't heard too much about Romney.

And are you suggesting that Michelle Obama is going to run for President? Her husband has already served two terms so is ineligible to run again.

My bad S2, I was waxing nostalgic. My intended point is Trump has badly poisoned the Republican water supply. Very few Republicans are willing to stand up to Trump outright. Romney (R) & Cheney (R) are among those few (& are therefore attractive candidates in my opinion).

I hadn't intended to. Michelle was CBS Late Show w/ Stephen Colbert's interview guest a few nights ago. I seriously doubt she's running, and detected no particular interest in holding the office. BUT, she did mention that before Barack announced his candidacy, she says he discussed it with her, offering her a veto if she opposed.
I believe the presidency was Secretary Colin Powell's for the taking if he'd announced his candidacy, but reportedly his wife vetoed.
And I gather Romney's wife has for the moment vetoed another presidential run for Mitt.

I remember making a comment to that effect to my Office Manager (black) and her immediate reply was that he'd be stupid to even think about it because some good old boy would shoot him.

From what I've learned of it, that was Colin Powell's wife's reason for vetoing the presidential run.
I personally held Powell in highest esteem until on behalf of the GWB administration, as Secretary of State Powell fabricated a casus belli to the U.N. General Assembly. My problem with it is not merely that some of what Powell said was nonsense, but that Powell should have, must have known it was nonsense.

JFK made his case against the Soviets with U2 spy plane photographs showing Soviet missiles on Cuban soil.
Powell made his case with U.S. government drawings of mobile WMD labs. Whatever government agent drew those graphics for Powell could not have believed them. They were fiction.
