For a group of Vietnam vets, opposing Trump's arch is about being "loyal to the country"

Washington — Shaun Byrnes and Jon Gundersen have served multiple presidents throughout their decades in the military and State Department. Now, as retirees, they're taking on the commander-in-chief in a court of law.

In February, Gundersen and Byrnes, alongside another Vietnam veteran and a historian, sued to stop construction of the 250-foot arch that is set to be built in a currently empty traffic circle between Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial.

They argue the project has been rushed and the administration hasn't gotten proper congressional approval. The arch, they say, would disrupt the symbolic connection between the Lincoln Memorial and the Robert E. Lee Memorial, a carefully considered sightline meant to convey unity after the Civil War.

According to recent renderings, the arch would be more than double the height of the Lincoln Memorial.

Gundersen and Byrnes say their lawsuit challenging President Trump's triumphal arch at the entrance to Arlington Cemetery isn't a partisan quest.

"I think what we're doing is being loyal to the country. And loyalty can be measured in different ways," Gundersen, a retired Army Special Forces officer, told CBS News in an interview.

Byrnes said he joined the suit, which is led by the Public Citizen Litigation Group, out of respect for fallen soldiers buried in Arlington.

Another attempt to rewrite history

"a group of Vietnam vets, opposing Trump's arch is about being "loyal to the country"" t #3,286

U.S. military veterans face divided loyalty w/ Trump.
"I, (name) do solemnly swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America and will defend it against all enemies foreign and domestic, and will obey the orders of the President and the officers appointed over me, so help me God."
U.S. military inductee oath
The Constitution may not explicitly enumerate detail that forbids the arch Trump advocates.
None the less President Trump is unmistakably hostile to conservatism.
That violent destructive hostility goes beyond merely demolishing a substantial portion of the white house,
redesigning the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, or
undertaking to obstruct the unifying link between North & South mentioned in #3,286.

The January 6 insurrection was an attack on the Constitution itself.
And Trump is now attempting to reward the traitors party to that insurrection with over a $Billion $Dollar slush fund, plundered from the People they betrayed.

None the less, the word "ostentatious" does not appear in the United States Constitution.
Conservatives are within their Constitutional right to not favor Trump's proposed arch. On what basis would it not be "loyal to the country"?

Trump faces health questions ahead of annual Walter Reed physical

This will be Trump's fourth medical exam during his second term in office, ahead of his 80th birthday on June 14.

President Donald Trump is expected to undergo the fourth medical exam of his second term on Tuesday as his 80th birthday approaches next month and he faces questions about his health.
The White House announced earlier this month that Trump would receive his annual dental and medical exam on May 26 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Trump, who turns 80 on June 14, is the oldest person ever elected to the presidency, and his health has been in the spotlight in recent months. He has experienced bruising on his hands, swelling in his lower legs and a rash on his neck.

- alright -

To be clear, that truncated report is not about the outcome of his medical examination.
After a patient is admitted to the hospital, and completes the procedure, the patient checks out of the hospital, reportedly "checking out perfectly" in this case.

Nice to know Trump can do something right, even if only in making his own exit.

I know you were being sarcastic but this is just more proof that Trump can't speak English - I'm sure he meant it as a comment on his health.

The satirical style is predictable. The ridicule component undeniable.
"can't speak English" ?
Perhaps.
My interpretation is not Trump insufficient syntactic competence.
Instead, I believe Trump is simply lying, implausibly so as usual. Superlatives are not only Trump's style. They're his Pinocchio's nose.

"Everything"? "PERFECTLY"?
Then what is the explanation for the ecchymosis, bruised hand?
A different explanation for his edema (swollen ankles)? Medically, "chronic venous insufficiency".

It's reported Trump is the oldest ever to be inaugurated president.
Trump could have said he's quite healthy for a man his age. I would agree.
That's not what he said. Trump lied, again.

"Trump visits doctor for 3rd time in past year" ... "my 6 month physical" 3 x 6 = 12

Are there still people who believe in Lindsey Graham?
He's just one opportunist trying to cling to power.

BREAKING: Lindsey Graham just handed Democrats their 2026 midterm weapon

Sen. Lindsey Graham did something remarkable on Sunday morning: he told the truth. Appearing on NBC News, the South Carolina Republican explained exactly why Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy lost his primary race, and in doing so, handed Democrats the clearest possible message heading into the midterms.

“Those who try to destroy Trump politically, stand in the way of his agenda, are gonna lose,” Graham said bluntly. “Bill Cassidy lost because he tried to destroy Trump. This is the party of Donald Trump.”

Cassidy, a two-term senator and physician who voted to convict Trump during his second impeachment trial, finished a distant third in Saturday’s Louisiana primary with roughly 25% of the vote. Trump-endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow led the field with about 45%, with state Treasurer John Fleming close behind. Both

Letlow and Fleming advance to a June 27 runoff. Cassidy becomes the first sitting U.S. senator to lose a primary since 2017.

Trump, who had spent months publicly labeling Cassidy as “disloyal,” gloated on Truth Social: “It’s nice to see that his political career is OVER!”

Cassidy, for his part, left with his dignity intact.

In his concession speech, he took a pointed swipe at the man who spent years trying to end his career. “When you participate in democracy, sometimes it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. But you don’t pout. You don’t whine. You don’t claim the election was stolen.” His crowd immediately understood exactly who he was talking about.

Graham’s comments also extended to Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, another Republican who has clashed with Trump, predicting he too would fall in his primary. Massie pushed back, telling ABC’s This Week that his own polling and fundraising tell a very different story.

The irony of Graham delivering this warning is hard to miss. In the hours after January 6th, Graham stood on the Senate floor and declared his partnership with Trump finished. “Count me out. Enough is enough,” he said. Within weeks he was back on the golf course at Mar-a-Lago, and he has spent every year since positioning himself as one of Trump’s most loyal defenders.

Graham knows better than almost anyone what crossing Trump costs. He also knows what loyalty to Trump costs. And on Sunday, he chose to say the quiet part loud, confirming for the entire country what everyone already suspected: the Republican Party no longer has room for anyone who won’t fall in line.

Democrats couldn’t have scripted it better themselves.
