Not a prideful boast, but disgraceful confession:
in this Trump II era of perpetual crises the thought that wafted through my early AM mind was:
That's bad news, BUT ! at least these are people Trump didn't kill.
But Trump is overseeing the most recent Trump administration government shutdown.
And this current shutdown has affected our airport workers. Right? Including air traffic control (ATC) ?
Is this yet another one with bread crumbs that lead to #1600 Penn. Ave.?

Runways are not that long, so it is not that hard to circumnavigate instead of crossing.
And since the firetruck would not be monitoring the traffic frequencies, they would sort of be blind to landings.
Someone in the tower must have goofed, but I still would not have tried to cross myself.

No question that someone in the tower goofed - after all the firetruck had been given permission to cross the runway which should have meant that it was clear.
Trump killed them. Bipartisan congressional agreement was disapproved by Trump, the shutdown continues.
We pay eloquent lip-service to the priceless importance / value of human life
in the abstract.

What is there to prevent the tragic loss of life that occurred yesterday from happening again tomorrow?
Something as simple as a change of rule / procedure could eliminate this runway collision risk. BUT !!

Those responsible for implementing the policies that have resulted in this loss of innocent Canadian life have made a cynical decision.
The low probability / high consequence risk of allowing ATC to grant permission for ground traffic to operate on airport runways saves $time, & "$time is $money".
The time and additional fuel saved by allowing these conflicting runway traffic patterns is the $value placed on this tragic / preventable loss of human at U.S. commercial airports.
Our cost : benefit calculation has been made.

There are malefactors great & small infesting our solar system.
Some of them would wish to do the U.S. enormous devastating harm, and a few among them have the capacity to attempt it. BUT
it is difficult to imagine, and apparently unlikely that any among them will actually manifest more harm to the U.S. than the Trump administration.

And who is James Talarico? A 36-year-old Texas state rep. A Presbyterian seminarian. And the guy who just won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Texas after beating Jasmine Crockett in the primary on a message of faith-based populism and bipartisan appeal.
He's trying to unseat John Cornyn this fall and he's quickly becoming one of the most talked-about Democrats in the country.
So how did Talarico respond to a pastor publicly praying for his death?
"Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills. You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me."
That's it. That's the whole response. No anger. No threats. No playing the victim. Just a man who actually reads the book these people keep waving around.
After the backlash, Potteiger scrambled out a clarification claiming he was actually praying for Talarico's "conversion," not his literal death. Sure. The podcast host literally said "I pray that God kills him" and Potteiger responded "right, right." The tape is right there.

The same Defense Secretary who was "quite disappointed" by the prospect of peace in Iran has a spiritual adviser who goes on podcasts praying for the destruction of Democratic politicians. The podcast host has previously claimed the Bible is "pro-ICE raids." This is the world these people are building.
And Talarico just walked right through it with a response that did more for Christianity in two sentences than these guys have done in their entire careers.

I've seen a number of questions on other boards asking what people think about age restrictions for the use of social media and I keep asking how they're expected to enforce them. Still no answer.
