"... oil companies don't want to take over Venezuela's oil ..." #1,881

"Though, in fairness, he's always looked (and sounded) like an idiot." S2 #1,881
The premise of this Venezuela fiasco is the assertion Trump solicited a $Billion $Dollar donation for this Venezuela quid pro quo.
#1,881 suggests Trump was bribed a $Billion $Dollars to obtain what no one wants. Please see post #437.

When we look at how Bush started the war in Iraq, it was partly to gain munitions profits, partly to distract politics through an external threat, and then only partly to gain revenue from Iraqi oil.
By Trump failing to make Maduro look even remotely threatening, all the rest fails.
Probably no oil company wants to ruin their reputation by being associated with this fiasco.

Paying the Costs of Iraq, for Decades to Come

The wars are ending; the obligations, just beginning now. By James Fallows / March 29, 2013

A little over 10 years ago, George W. Bush fired his economic adviser, Lawrence Lindsey, for saying that the total cost of invading Iraq might come to as much as $200 billion. Bush instead stood by such advisers as Paul Wolfowitz, who said that the invasion would be largely "self-financing" via Iraq's oil, and Andrew Natsios, who told an incredulous Ted Koppel that the war's total cost to the American taxpayer would be no more than $1.7 billion. https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...the-costs-of-iraq-for-decades-to-come/274477/

Excellent.
Then why pay Trump a $Billion for his campaign? And why would Trump put our military though all this trouble, if for naught?

I do not know how much the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan actually cost, but Bush added about $7 trillion to the national debt, even though Clinton had slightly reduced the national debt.
So it would seem that was due to these uses of the military?

With Venezuela, we have not had to battle tanks, jets, knock out utilities, etc., so it would be a lot cheaper.
But the sanctions caused their oil infrastructure to decay.
Venezuela does not have light crude, but heavy tar sands instead.

In part, even if not entirely.
"A million here, a million there; pretty soon you're talking real money." Everett Dirksen

For example:
"Tax cuts accounted for only about 25% of the deficit." U.S. Vice President Richard Cheney, Sept. 14, '03 $Trillions

So?
"What's pernicious about deficits for conservatives is this. It makes big government cheap. What we're doing, we're turning to the country, the "conservative" administration turns to the country and says:
We're going to give you a dollar's worth of government, we're going to charge you seventy five cents for it. And we're going to let your kids pay the other quarter." George Will Nov 30, 2003

Then as now Republicans are not fiscal conservatives. They claim the mantle of conservatism for prestige they have not earned and do not deserve. In their fraudulent pseudo-con pretense they simultaneously lift themselves up, while shoving the reputation of true conservatives down.

"Honor means sacrificing yourself for the benefit of others.
Dishonor means sacrificing others for the benefit of yourself." Lanny Davis,Special Counsel to President Clinton

Trump / Vance / Rubio may find it challenging to plunder Venezuela's assets without it being obvious.
Difficult to imagine a shade of lipstick they can slap on that hog that will make her look kissable. It's military invasion & plunder.

Anyone who has seen the vids knows that Trump and Vance are lying (as if that's a surprise)

"Many people in this room have been lying about this attack. She was trying to ram this guy with her car. He shot back. He defended himself." ~ JD Vance

"She behaved horribly. And then she ran him over. She didn't try to run him over. She ran him over." ~ Trump

So "she ran him over" in exactly the same way that Donnie was shot in the ear?
