It may be Democrats are prepared for the electoral benefits of Trump accepting this "gift", bribe. The reduces the Republican's choice to a binary choice: greed, or sufficient ethics to boast purity in the next election.

They said that accepting the 13-year-old jet would likely cost U.S. taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars over time, noting that refurbishing the commercial plane would exceed its current value of $400 million. It's not just installing those systems - it also requires ensuring that there is no spyware of any sort already installed in that plane. And that's not a minor job.

Bugs that are active 24/7 may be easy to find.
But those that lay dormant until activated by time or event may be far more difficult to identify and remove. As NBC reports, it's cheaper to simply buy a new one.

As a 71 year old retiree my personal style is to not evaluate my own on basis of moral superiority.

But it would be silly to deny / ignore the disproportionate influence of the U.S. on global humanity.
U.S. culture is gaudy, commercial, and in some cases alluring.

I don't defend my perspective on basis of patriotism. But denying U.S. global influences would not make them any less so.

What Taylor Swift has over President Trump:
- Swift is a self-made $Billionaire.
- Swift does not have a reputation for swindle.
- Swift does not have a record of thousands of law suits as Trump reportedly does.

Trump's form of entertainment as host of The Apprentice included Trump's catchphrase: "You're fired."
Swift doesn't create winners and losers, she entertains us all.

There's much else to say of it, we can leave it at this:
envy may be a substantial component of Trump's derisive attitude here.
Bitter experience has persuaded me, those quick to disparage the character of others are often themselves of low, inadequate character.
