VP JD Vance is runaway Republican candidate, polling reveals

Rob Crilly / Fri, May 16, 2025 at 5:30 AM EDT
Donald Trump may appear to be running an Apprentice-style contest to select his successor but a new poll reveals that there is only one name in the frame for voters.
JD Vance, the vice-president, is favoured by 46 per cent of Republicans to become the party’s 2028 nominee, according to a survey by JL Partners.
Marco Rubio, Mr Trump’s secretary of state, is the preferred pick of just six per cent, behind Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida on eight per cent, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur, on seven.

I don't believe our vice-president is particularly presidential.
Vance has already given the voters a chance, and lost in the primary.

More likely, the Trump din drowns out Republicans that might otherwise get noticed.
So perhaps VP JD polls ahead out of name recognition, or perhaps title recognition (some of those polled may have heard of "vice-president" even if they don't know what it means).

Meanwhile
The Dems. are still squabbling over Biden. Ideologically Democrats aren't organized enough to form a circular firing-squad. Give them time.

I'm sure that they'll have figured it out by the time of the next election. After all, they're past masters at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Sir Chaz Barkley likes Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

Governor of Maryland since 2023
Wes Moore
Westley Watende Omari Moore (born October 15, 1978) is an American politician, businessman, author, and veteran, serving as the 63rd governor of Maryland since 2023.
Moore was born in Maryland and raised primarily in New York. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received a master's degree from Wolfson College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar. After several years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, he became an investment banker in New York. Between 2010 and 2015, Moore published five books, including a young-adult novel. He served as CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation from 2017 to 2021. Moore authored The Other Wes Moore and The Work. He also hosted Beyond Belief on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and was executive producer and a writer for Coming Back with Wes Moore on PBS.
Moore is a member of the Democratic Party. He won the 2022 Maryland gubernatorial election, becoming Maryland's first African-American governor and the third African-American person elected governor of any U.S. state.

From what very little I've seen of Governor Moore, what impressed me about him is not that he simply presses his own agenda the way Vance does.
Instead Moore seems more Lincoln-like, enough political s a v v y to change (persuade) minds, instead of merely butting heads. BUT !
Next election day is years away, and "overnight is an eternity in politics".

We'll all just have to take a 50mg chill pill and see ¿Qué pasa?

Rock the weekend !

PS
Omari, you grin like a ghoul. Maybe you should rock two weekends.

Any idea when President Trump will stroke out?

‘We’re going to have a problem’: Republicans want Trump to move on from 2020

Erin Doherty, Lisa Kashinsky and Andrew Howard / Mon, March 16, 2026 at 5:40 AM EDT

President Donald Trump is bringing back 2020. Many Republicans wish he wouldn't.
Conversations with nearly a dozen GOP state and county chairs and strategists reveal a party largely eager to move on from relitigating Trump’s election grievances, which they’re worried may detract from an economic message that actually motivates voters. But the president won’t let it go, subpoenaing 2020 election records and putting pressure on lawmakers to pass legislation to overhaul voter registration laws.
As Republicans stare down a treacherous midterm landscape, there's a growing view inside the party that focusing on “stolen election” claims and voter fraud will kneecap them in the general election: That messaging might play well with the MAGA base in the primary, but it could alienate moderates tired of rehashing an election from nearly six years ago.

As an analytical voter, an objective observer I can imagine Trump misrepresenting events, in Trump's determination to cling to power, even if against the will of the People.
"I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the State." President Trump via telephone to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger
Trump's desire to remain president after his 4 year first term expired is understandable. Trump's methods were none the less criminal. BUT !!

It's 2026.
Trump lost in 2020, and won again in 2024.
Trump currently holds the office of U.S. president.
So what's the sense in Trump beating his dead donkey?

It's not (yet) a cascade collapse. BUT
there are a few cracks showing up in the Trump / MAGA horde.

Trump adds a little to the snowball with the departure of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, announced his resignation on Tuesday, citing his concerns about the justification for military strikes in Iran and saying he “cannot in good conscience” back the Trump administration’s war.
“Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent said in a statement posted on social media, making claims President Donald Trump has denied.

It's a loooong way to election day.
Will the cost of living in Early November determine the fate of the GOP for the next few years?

A Mar-a-Lago flip: Dems win Trump's hometown Florida House district

Gary Fineout / Tue, March 24, 2026 at 5:24 PM PDT
TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Democrats sent a jolt Tuesday through reliably red Florida, flipping two legislative seats including the district containing President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.
Democrat Emily Gregory defeated the Trump-endorsed GOP state House candidate in a hotly contested race that had seen Democrats pour money and support into an effort to take hold of the Palm Beach County district. But Democrats also narrowly squeaked out a win in a Tampa state senate seat that had been held by Lt. Gov. Jay Collins until last August.

DJ,
Let's see you lie your way out of this one.
