Saint Valentine (Italian: San Valentino; Latin: Valentinus) was a 3rd-century Roman saint, commemorated in Western Christianity on February 14 and in Eastern Orthodoxy on July 6. From the High Middle Ages, his feast day has been associated with a tradition of courtly love. He is also a patron saint of Terni, epilepsy and beekeepers. Saint Valentine was a clergyman – either a priest or a bishop – in the Roman Empire who ministered to persecuted Christians. He was martyred and his body buried on the Via Flaminia on February 14, which has been observed as the Feast of Saint Valentine (Saint Valentine's Day) since at least the eighth century. President Trump may be not merely be hostile to our institutions, but antagonistic to them.
None the less, even the Trump white house cannot entirely exclude this international tradition from its loving embrace:

"high calorie nourishment balls" #3
"Nourishment" ?!
To insure an adequate dietary intake of vitamin heart-attack?

oto
A heart-shaped box of candy, $cheaper than running a tab at the local bordello. "Love is grand. Divorce is $500 $grand!"

?
I presume a wholesome agenda, but do not recognize "IDAHOT".

Q: What flower gives the most kisses on St. Valentine's Day?

A: Tulips 😳

Re #5 - #IDAHOT is a Twitter handle
Oh.
I should have known that, if only by recognizing the "hash-tag" format. It seems my anti- "social media" contempt is neither secret, nor inconsequential.

- oh well -

Thanks S2.

Awakening from a romantic dream, a woman told her husband, "I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine's day. What do you think it means?"

"You'll know tonight." he said.

That evening, her husband came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it
to find a book titled Dream Interpretation.

For ever after she never failed to liberally sprinkle hot pepper on his peanut butter sandwiches.

"Valentine's Day is just a made-up holiday. ..." #12

Counterpoint:
What holiday is not "made-up"?

Attempt to justify the status quo and we see the choices are arbitrary.

African-Americans may have rational reason for reservation about President's Day, which includes honorific recognition of a slave-owner, Thomas Jefferson *.

In our modern culture, holidays, a brief suspension in work schedule, have affects that seem to be therapeutic on national scale. The U.S. is not the only nation to apply the practice, or reap its benefits.

CERTAINLY we ignore history at our peril.
But is our yearly formal recognition of Santa any less socially beneficial than recognizing Abe Lincoln's birthday?
When quantified on commercial basis (in $Billions), the opposite may be true.

So what?
We needn't abandon our scholarship of history to enjoy a 3 day weekend.
This doesn't mean Washington was a bad guy.
But it at least raises the question, might the celebration be as or more important than the person celebrated?

* What does Presidents Day commemorate?
Washington's birthday was an informal holiday during the country's early existence and President Rutherford B. Hayes formalized the holiday in 1879, according to History.com.
The holiday's proximity to the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln on Feb. 12 caused the general public to link the two and later expand the celebration to all presidents.
