Many in the United States may have become accustomed to the ~yearly ritual of the president reporting to congress, a status report.
This more than a mere gaudy bad habit. It's the implementation of the following Constitutional enumeration:
ARTICLE 2. SECTION 3.
He [POTUS] shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and ...
If tonight's address is Trump's compliance with this enumerated requirement,
why not call it a "State of the Union" address?
If it is not, why the ceremony?
