Florida to allow building roads with radioactive waste

Florida governor and presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis signed a bill Thursday that would allow for roads across Florida to be made with "radioactive" mining waste that has been linked to cancer. Read more here: https://cbsn.ws/3JDWpEw #news #rondesantis #florida

Dusty Roads isn't just a country music entertainer.
The interaction of car & truck tires abrading roadway converts both tire and roadway into particles of a wide variety of sizes. BUT !!
Some of those particles are small enough to be suspended in air, akin to the wildfire smoke from Canada now sweeping across portions of the lower 48.
This not only means Floridians will be inhaling radioactive waste which will be atomized on industrial scale. But it may also mean Florida's produce such as Florida citrus may be rendered unsafe by this.

To paraphrase Groucho Marx, DeSantis is so stupid he should be horse-whipped, if we had a horse.

BTW
ASTOUNDING the feds., the EPA doesn't step in here and veto this. It will be expensive for Florida to install this source of radioactive death. BUT !! It would be far, far more $expensive to clean it up.

... it it may also mean Florida's produce such as Florida citrus may be rendered unsafe by this.
Doesn't matter. After all, due to Florida's anti-immigrant laws they're not going to be able to harvest the crops anyways. [/end sarcasm]

I sincerely can't figure it out.
Has the U.S. been this bad since 1950? I only recently smartened up enough to notice? - O R -

We tumbled into the abyss in the past half century?

Disney Ending $1 Billion Move Amid DeSantis Lawsuit Could Be A Bigger Deal For Florida Than We Thought

Tue, July 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM EDT
Earlier this month when Disney announced that a plan to move 2,000 Cast Member jobs (including most of Walt Disney Imagineering, from California to Florida) would not move forward, it was obviously a financial blow to the state. The move was expected to result in nearly $1 billion in spending in the state that now won’t happen, but it looks like Disney’s decision in its ongoing battle with Florida is already causing repercussions, as it could mean a lot of additional economic activity won’t happen. At this point, it’s unclear what Disney will do with the land it purchased in 2021, but at least in the short term, the answer is “absolutely nothing” and that’s bad news for the Lake Nona area, which was expecting a boom in both residential and commercial projects in response to the move. The Wall Street Journal reports that when Disney first announced the move, construction on new homes and apartments jumped up, many of which are actively being built now, but it appears the people who were expected to live in them aren’t coming.

Governor DeSantis has given those competing for the Rep. nom. quite an advantage here.

Some who have nothing better to do than criticize Florida Governor DeSantis for the library reform measures DeSantis has implemented.
But anyone smart enough to reed can see Florida is "The Education State". Says so right on the sign!
The proof that there's nothing wrong with this Florida governor, DeSantis has the support of literally dozens of Florida voters. How can a voter possibly be wrong?

Gov. Christie surpasses Gov. DeSantis @New Hampshire
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has surpassed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in the critical early presidential primary state of New Hampshire, according to an Emerson College survey released Tuesday.
Christie leapfrogged DeSantis for second place in the Granite State, garnering 9 percent support. DeSantis’s support, on the other hand, fell to 8 percent from 17 percent in March. Christie’s 1-point lead over DeSantis falls within the poll’s plus-or-minus 3.4 percent margin of error.
“DeSantis has been the alternative to Trump in Emerson polling this presidential cycle. This is the first time we have seen DeSantis drop out of second place in our polling, and fall back into the pack of candidates,” said Spencer Kimball, the executive director of Emerson College Polling.

For DeSantis, an Unforced Error Amplifies a Daunting Debate Challenge

Nicholas Nehamas / Sat, August 19, 2023 at 10:19 AM

MIAMI — The first Republican presidential debate next week was already looking like a stern test for Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, who is battling to overcome sagging national poll numbers, a fundraising crunch and an overhaul of his top campaign staff.
Now his tall task appears towering.
On Thursday, key details about how he might approach the crucial debate were revealed in a report from The New York Times about a trove of documents posted online by a political consulting firm associated with Never Back Down, the super political action committee that has in many ways taken over his campaign.

The advice on display, which included potential attack lines and debate tactics, could be somewhat condescending — reminding DeSantis, for example, that he should be “showing emotion” when discussing his wife and children.

If Justice Thomas (sic) scores a 10, I'd give DeSantis at least a 4.7 for this. BUT !!
Thomas got a head start. We can check again when DeSantis hits 70.

Quinn Mitchell has a jarring encounter with DeSantis and his super PAC supporters as he soaks up the 2024 election on the ground in his home state.

Too soon to declare defeat for DeSantis. But for the Republicans competing for the '24 nomination wouldn't surprise me if in confidential circles they're calling him DeSanta.

I totally dig seeing that chick grab the microphone from him.

😱

How about De Zaster ?

DeSantis really has earned the nickname "DeathSantis"

But who cares about America (or Floridians) as long as he differentiates himself

Florida Governor DeSantis #18
Think it through.
Why waste a lot of time becoming a technical expert by credential or knowledge in the rapidly advancing scientific field of immunology, when his vantage of government authority empowers Governor DeSantis (R-FL) to inflict his political bias within his jurisdiction in pristine scientific ignorance?
Doing what is right doesn't matter, what matters is winning, right? Far right?
