Archbishop Bars Pelosi From Communion Over Abortion Stance
Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, who has repeatedly confronted the House speaker over her backing of abortion rights, said her stance was a “grave evil.”
It's in part a Church vs State issue. But the First Amendment binds on the State, not a church.
Is Cordileone's action appropriate?
Is this Church inflexibility a factor in the splintering of Holy Roman Catholicism?
Even if so, what other path could the Church follow? Accept abortion even if it is murder, based on ??? For the benefit of the Church? What benefit, other than Pelosi's membership, if that can be considered a benefit?
