How Deportation Policies Impact High-Skilled Worker Wages

Kent Smetters, faculty director of the Penn Wharton Budget Model, explains how large-scale deportation policies can negatively affect middle-class and high-skilled workers in the U.S.

Kent Smetters, faculty director of the Penn Wharton Budget Model, discusses recent research revealing how deportation — especially over long periods — can lower GDP and reduce wages for high-skilled workers, challenging assumptions about who truly benefits or suffers from such policies.

Dan Loney:
The connection between deportation, including mass deportation, and its impact on the GDP of a country has been talked about a lot. But new research from the Penn Wharton Budget Model takes a deeper dive into some other effects, such as how it might also impact the wages of high-skilled workers. We are joined here by ....

How Deportation Policies Impact High-Skilled Worker Wages #1,301

Thank you S2.
Many U.S. citizens including those classified as laymen may know more about such economics than our President.
Technical analysis is useful in informing a viable, responsible electorate.

No sense in tiptoeing on eggshells here. After the next inauguration, we can see whether Republican presidents like Trump are better for the economy, or not.

- bloody horrid -

There isn't ONE Republican appointed judge willing to enforce the law?
When President Trump was party to insurrection two Republicans stood with Democrats to hold Trump accountable, Rep. Liz Cheney, & Rep. Adam Kinzinger.
Trump is now (again) president of the United States, and Cheney and Kinzinger in political obscurity.

This presents the impression the law is partisan. - horrendous-

If Trump insults you it means you must be doing something right so keep it up!

BREAKING: The White House melts down and attacks music legend Jack White after he insults Donald Trump's "disgusting" and "vulgar" redecoration of the White House
“Jack White is a washed-up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career,” claimed White House spokesman Steven Cheung.

“It’s apparent [White]’s been masquerading as a real artist, because he fails to appreciate, and quite frankly disrespects, the splendor and significance of the Oval Office inside of ‘The People’s House,'” Cheung added.

this is Jack’s response…

"Listen, I’m an artist and not a politician so I’m in no need to give my answer or opinion on anything if I’m not inspired or compelled, but how funny that it wasn’t me calling out trump’s blatant fascist manipulation of government, his gestapo ICE tactics, his racist remarks about Latinos, Native Americans, etc. his ridiculous 'wall' construction, his attacks on the disabled, his attempted coup and mob insurrection and destruction of the sacred halls of congress, his disparaging sexist and pedophilic remarks about women, his obvious attempts at distraction about being a close personal friend of Jeffrey Epstein and his inclusion in ....

Nearly as "vulgar" as a turquoise blue Fender?
My Momma drove a station wagon in the '50's with the same white over blue color scheme.

A new high for Trump disapproval, Democrats' House vote lead, wars in Ukraine and Gaza, and universities: August 15 - 18, 2025 Economist/YouGov Poll

Since he just invented a new branch of economics does that mean he's going to demand a Nobel Prize in that?

Donald Trump held a press event, if you can call it that, with law enforcement outside the White House. What unfolded was less “strong leader restoring order” and more “delirious country club bore hijacking karaoke night.” Trump rambled, boasted, and invented entire economic systems on the spot, all while revealing that his true vision for America is… landscaping.

“I know more about grass than any human being, I think, anywhere in the world,” he declared, in case you were wondering who the true green thumb of the Republic might be. The man who turned the White House Rose Garden into a concrete Mar-a-Lago imitation now wants to re-sod Washington’s parks with Augusta National–grade turf. “Grass has a life,” he lectured. “The grass here died about 40 years ago.” Forget crime, inflation, or foreign wars, the true national crisis is expired lawn clippings.

Not content with botany, Trump also invented a new branch of economics.

“We came back with 5.1 trillion dollars of investment… and we’re over 17 trillion now,” he announced, casually conjuring numbers that dwarf the GDP of China, the EU, and Jupiter combined. “Nobody knows what it means,” he admitted, a rare, fleeting moment of truth. He then assured the crowd ....

Uncertainty over how to comply with changing de minimis rule, airline embargoes disrupt cross-border transport

European postal operators are alerting businesses and individuals that end of the U.S. de minimis exemption on small-dollar shipments from all countries, which currently can be imported duty-free, has curtailed their ability to ship packages to the United States. Posts in Asia are also pausing service.
The new measure will significantly impact postal operators and customers worldwide. Postal operators across Europe are actively working together on solutions to meet the new requirements imposed by the United States. PostEurope, which represents 51 European postal companies, said on Tuesday that key details, such as how U.S. customs duties will be collected and what data must be submitted to U.S. authorities, have yet to be fully defined. U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued limited technical guidance on Aug. 15, leaving little time for full implementation by the deadline.

Nobody ever claimed that Vance was a genius. Besides, do you think Donnie would ever choose a running mate who was smarter than him? Someone who could show him up?

US to review all 55 million visas to check if holders broke rules

The US is reviewing the records of more than 55 million US visa holders to assess if they have broken conditions for entry or stay in the country.

People with US visas will be under "continuous vetting", a state department spokesperson told the Associated Press news agency.

Visas will be revoked if there are indications of "overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organisation", an official said.

President Donald Trump has made anti-immigration the cornerstone of his second administration, from mass deportations and full-on travel bans on countries to revoking 6,000 student visas.

As part of the wide-ranging review, prospective students and visitors to the US will be subjected to social media vetting with officials looking for ....

Rule by instability, by chaos.
I'm not a psychiatrist t, but I suspect Trump secretly fears unpredictability.
- That would explain why he punishes severely those that Trump perceives as betraying him, Bolton comes to mind.
- It would explain why Trump changes the rules so often.
- It explains why Trump generally prefers to behave in an unpredictable manner.
